Wiki tells me this is incorrect. June/September 96 for the 64, 97/98 for the Dualshock. Have to remember that the first Playstation controller was all digital, as even the analog stick version didn't even debut until late 96.

Their usb-powered drives have been good for me, but I have seen reports of higher failure rates for Seagate drives. In my own personal experience, I've had higher failure rates for Western Digital AC powered drives.

This is what makes the Gears game forums so dumb. There are people on that site that rationalize that the center screen fire needs to stay because that's how it was, and then follow it with saying to just tape or mark on your screen where to fire.

So even though The Coalition have been able to insert new features into the game, like matchmaking and spotting enemies, it's better to keep a broken mechanic that the sequels corrected because that's how it was. It's like the people who support one shot active Longshot downs or infinite Hammer of Dawn ammo. There's a reason why the sequels eliminated these things, yet rather than make the game the definitely Ultimate Edition they, both The Coalition and some fans of the game, would rather it be reverted to an archaic and broken design.

I still play it regularly. I wouldn't classify it as an addiction but I'm only at about a hundred hours played (most people I play with are 2 to 3 times that).

I only got back into it after Christmas and keep going back to do the weekly stuff mainly for the social experience. I have a decent amount of people that still play and I've had great luck with lfg sites. It's also a pretty easy game to pop in after a long day at work and grind away at without too much mental investment.

Overall I don't have a problem with what people think is a lack of content. I do acknowledge they could put more in but I have fun with the nightfall modifiers and raids and whatnot (although I do think modifiers should be in more content).

In reality, my biggest complaint is the lack of difficulty based on enemy AI and placement like the old halo games. Harder missions in destiny just mean higher enemy levels, and more shields. I think it's a cheap way to make difficulty that is ultimately much less fulfilling than the old heroic/legendary difficulties.

Sorry for the novel. Just figured the thread could use a relatively level-headed take on destiny. I'd definitely wait for the September version with all the dlc if you're looking to check it out again rather than buying the dlc now though.

I've put some 200 hours in it but after 30 or so I've seen it all. The PvP had a horrible netcode so I stuck to PvE mainly, but the repetitiveness was just too much. As you said, the difficulty only means more health, bigger shields and more damage, no actual gameplay differences. The same goes for the modifiers, which only shake things up so little. When the first raid came out me and my group had a blast, now that is what the game should aim at: unpredictable, unconventional, exciting and ultimately rewarding content. Having one raid per "pack" (one in the base game, one for DLC, etc.) is pretty bad because it is by far the most fulfilling and diverse experience Destiny has to offer, and no amount of regular missions or explorable locations can make up for it since the gameplay on those is 100% identical anyway thanks to the lack of imagination in AI. That's why raids are fun: new and unexpected rules.

The other thing that killed Destiny for me is how it artificially increases its lenght by limiting progress, yet forcing the players to do repetitive daily/weekly tasks to make sure they don't fall behind. You're practically begged to do the weekly raid, strike and whatnots, knowing that if you don't you'll need to spend another whole week attempting to get the same materials or items. Also on-disc content that is only available at certain times is annoying for people who don't have the chance to play without limits any time they want. At the same time, despite constant grinding day after day, week after week, the progress is ridiculously slow, with Bungie doing all it can to further lenghten the process by a ridiculously low percentage of chance for decent drops and all solid farming opportunities patched out immediately. Yeah, all MMOs require farming, but at least they have plenty of content, not a few hours long campaign to play back and forth.

And in the end it all comes to that: the farming. You have to blast through the same missions and same areas so many times, finish the same bounties a gazillion times just so that eventually you'll get the drop you need and you find yourself able to upgrade it as it fits you. But again you're just chasing higher numbers, there is no customization whatsoever so you're literally spending dozens of hours to increase your armor by 10 points or stuff like that. And the issue is... for what? If you came to this point, you already went through every mission of the campaign at least 10 times each. You've seen everything the PvP has to offer. You are able to beat the strikes and raids: no other option as it's the only way to progress. But what do you progress for at this point? Beating the raid is what gives you the chance to level up to the highest levels, but you've already beaten the highest level content to get there, so what is the point? As it stands it's only worth something in Iron Banner, which is effectively a game of "I played longer than you thus my character is stronger".

All in all after 200 or so hours it hit me: I wasn't playing Destiny, Destiny was playing me. In order to have any sense of progress, it made me do the endless bounties, the strikes, the raids and stuff time after time, despite having already done them a billion times already. It was the only way to progress, as no amount of farming could grant you the light shards and the raid equipment - but farming itself was extremely important too because otherwise the items you got by the high level content weren't powerful enough. I realized that I'm not even playing the game, nor enjoying it too much after having replayed every section a hundred times: I'm merely pushing through the same stuff so that, eventually, I'd get better gear. But after a while I saw that the higher level items are completely irrelevant as there is no higher level content to require them, so it was literally for bragging purposes alone.

This kind of cheesing the players is already horrible in Facebook games: you run out of energy so you have to wait, you have to farm materials to build stuff, you have to spam friends to get extra lives... but you sort of excuse it, because those are lame free browser games. They make an income from that: either you spend shittons of hours on the game and giving them ad revenue, or you spend real money to skip the waiting and play. If you choose the free option, prepare for snail-speed progression and time barriers everywhere. Again, it's something you expect from a Facebook game, but a game that's being sold for 60$ (and is already getting 80$ or so of DLC, which aren't over yet btw) shouldn't get away with it. Whether I have 30 mins a week or 20 hours a day to play, please, give me the content. Don't block me behind stupid grinding and ridiculous timed content. Give me the chance to play at my own speed without differentiating me from others who have different time constraints. I'm not saying I should be level 30 by playing half as much as others, on the contrary: allow me to get there playing, say, 100 hours, but don't point out that I have to do this day by day, week by week, and don't make lose progress because I didn't play 4 hours on 2 days rather than 8 on one. It's unfair, especially in a paid game.

 
I'll be the optimistic one and say they will follow Sony's lead this week and have prequels to games that were announced during E3.

I'm thinking Doom, Mass Effect, Fallout, or a Halo themed sale.

 
Wouldn't be surprised if we get a batman sale on both systems. Though lego batman 3 is the only batman game on X1.

I hate when you post any suggestion and are bombarded by people telling you to get better or to go back to Gears of War X. I've been playing the first game since '06, yet when I'd like to see something better it's met with such resistance. I said I'd like to see Horde brought to this game, since people were able to mod it into the PC version, and the replies of people who said they hated Horde, thought it sucked, was for lame players, etc, was astounding. If you don't like the mode, there's nothing forcing you to play it. I'd much rather have more modes that allow for all type of players to enjoy a game though.

 
Now that Im back on the 360 I'm really hoping for a good GWG announcement for July. I'm about to go on a backlog spree in a minute. I'm talking about stuff like Blood On The Sand, Wet, and Aftro Samurai.

I'm really tempted to get batman as well but I'm gonna hold off a little while. I did pre-order devil may cry 4 and I'm looking forward to that. That was the first game I beat when I got my 360. I'll have to load up SO soon too to check out the new goodies I got with that code. Plus date night PLUS actual date night with the wife tonight = not a bad Monday!

I'll be back around 10 tonight to complain about the crappy deals with you guys.

I did have those so yea giving out previous DLC. Ok so I got the Gamestop and Amazon preorder packs. Thought I had those but now I do have all the dlc lol.

Nothing like blind firing some noobs!

Gears of war doesn't need matchaking. It fucked up gow 2 and 3 not being able to pick what map you wanted to play on.

Active snipe needs to stay in the game! Learn to defence!!!

Hammer of dawn does not need infinite ammo that's just dumb!!!

Also marking people is so annoying. It's only 4 people you have to keep track of.
