Except for that awful ending. Are Stephen King books supposed to end terribly or what?
I've not read allot of Steven King but after I finished 11.22.63 the other day (which was awsome btw) I looked around at reviews and saw allot of people commenting on how the ending didn't suck...

So, yeah, Steven King at least has the rep of writing bad endings.

I use a mechanical thingy... I mostly surf/game in the dark so its even backlit.

Well, I dug it out anyways... It is a MS 4000 certified for Vista! lol
Eep! PUT IT BACK! PUT IT BACK! PUT IT BAAAAAAACK!

Also add "in" to that comment and it can be reused for any Mount Your Friends discussion.

ugh, 11 22 63 was a real slog for me. got so bored with it and just wanted it to end. King is about the journey, not the destination, but sometimes he just takes the wrong highway and gets slowed down by road construction. Compare that to the book i read after 11 22 63, Joyland seemed like he just hit the pedal at the end and got out before it wore out its welcome.

Remedy updated PC requirements for Quantum Break. My setup would be between Recommended and Ultra.

http://remedygames.com/quantum-break-pre-orders-and-previews-launch-windows-10-version-announced/
Yeah, for the most part, I'm at Recommended...

...other than the card recommending a 4GB 3.5GB 970. I have a 4GB 960.

My processor's an i7 950, even though it's 1st gen of them Intel i5's and i7's.

I have 16GB of regular RAM.

Updated Recommended specs make more sense now.

Alan Wake was great the first go around.

But just like Bioshock, once the story payoff unfolds (or in AW's case, fizzles) all you're left with is the middling gameplay. It's soooo pfffffttttttt.
Man, Alan Wake's gameplay isn't in the same league as Bioshock's. Bioshock's gunplay is at least of mediocre quality, and superficially interesting because of the use of plasmids. Alan Wake's gameplay is just flat out horrible.

I really disliked in Alan Wake PC how dodge (tap) was mapped to the same button as run (hold) - whether KB/mouse or Gamepad. Really, Remedy? Really?

Sometimes I just want to do a quick-run for a moment, but then it'd dodge. Or vice versa. Made combat clunkier than it should've been.

A separate key for those two would've been better for that and made combat much better.

EDIT:

FO4 PC retail box went up to $39.99 on BestBuy (without GCU).

I had fun with Max Payne 1 and 2. So the gameplay mechanics didn't bother me much in Alan Wake. Even beat it on the hardest difficulty which is not as challenging. I did tend to die often around the middle of the game. For me, I knew well when I first played Alan Wake that I was expecting a heavily story-driven game. Enjoyed the narrative like what they did with both Max Payne games.

While the game was good for the most part, I agree with everyone that it gets repetitive and drags to the 2nd half with a bad ending. It still left me wanting a sequel, so they can improve on it. Quantum Break will (hopefully) satisfy for the moment.

I saw COD: Ghosts on clearance at Target today for $13. I sat and looked at it for awhile and realized I don't know if Ghosts is old or new or good or bad or what the hell is a good price for it anyway. I am not very good at this clearance shopping thing.
As I recall from my kid, Ghosts sorta sucked. Gameplay-wise, shortly after it came out a lot of players went back to the previous game (MW3? BO?) because the game play was better. I don't play COD myself so I can't give details, I just remember seeing him playing the old game and him saying "Yeah, no one really plays Ghosts any more. It's not as good and everyone already has their unlocks in this game so why bother playing it?"

So, you know, there's your second-hand review of a game by a 16 year old.

Newegg has the Cougar Attack Cherry Blue Mech Keyboard for $49.99 and the Cherry Black for $44.99.  apparently Black doesn't go on sale often.  Didn't even know they had black keys.  Not backlit and normal looking, unlike their other ones.  I was disappoint by that.

If you guys want a good read than I highly recommend Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. As a gamer and a geek from the 80's, I nerded out the entire book. It's easily the book I had the most fun with while reading and probably my overall favorite book ever.

Back to being on topic briefly - I picked up Lightning Returns from the SE sale. I was hoping to get the Dragon Quest game but $45 is way more than I want to pay. Someone find me a deal! I'm itching to backlog it.

Yeah same. I wanted Dragon Quest Heroes but not $45 want, even the console version has gone way cheaper than that on a sale, so I can keep waiting.

Speaking of consoles, Cowboom is having a console flash day with deals rotating all day.  $199.99 PS4s, $239.99 XB1s.  Not sure what the price on Wii Us is.  Waiting for one of those to pop up so I can see.

I can second the recommendation. Not my all time favorite but way up there. I was shocked at how much I liked it.

I third the recommendation. It's probably my favorite book of all time, but it's not the most technically sound book in the universe. It's tons of fun to read though, especially if you're a fan of 80s/90s pop culture and video game/geek culture.

Thank gawd that Steam sale is over. Bought 6 more games at 9:57 pst just before sale ended. Must have bought 20 during that sale. Steam trading cards paid for most of it, but I probably contributed $40 on top of that. By far the most active I have been during a sale. REALLY glad it's over.

Were there really that many deals?

ahh to be young again...

ahh to be young again...
I'm young at heart at least.

Edit: Wasn't as bad as I thought. Only bought 13 games:

hocus

State of Decay: YOSE

The Crew: Wild Run Edition

The Typing of the Dead: Overkill Collection

The Black Watchmen

Besiege

Kerbal Space Program

Lexica

Half Dead

Drive Any Track

Highride Heros: Word Challenge

Unium

H1Z1

Lots of Zombies apparently. The worst part is I bought all those games and have been playing 7 Days to Die, which I have had for awhile already.

Was just checking this out. No controller, power cord or HDMI cable. By the time you replace these it's still a deal but not that great of a deal.

not the first time this has happened so why is it a big deal? I think they have actually been less on cowboom before with coupons.
Well if they had a complete PS4 that was an open box or something that Cowboom has from time to time for $199.99 I would have been pretty excited. Not sure if that is the lowest price ever, but it's the lowest I've seen.

I liked Ready Player One, but really hated his second book, Armada. A book that evoked a similar nostalgia for old timey vidya games was Lucky Wander Boy, by D. B. Weiss, but it also has a fun mystery and stuff going on.

I just read The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and really enjoyed it. It doesn't really mention video games at all, but it does use a similar respawn mechanic to tell a cool semi-science-fictional story of the 20th Century.

Snow Crash and Reamde, both by Neal Stephenson, take place partially in virtual worlds and are pretty exciting.

The Road, by Cormac McCarthy, is basically Fallout without all the jokes.

Back on topic, I had a hamburger the other night, and it was good.

Ah, didn't realize they were screwing you out of that stuff. Probably a better deal then to try to find one at a pawn shop.
The Wii U's were worse because they all came without the tablet pad thing as well. That's extremely expensive to replace, Nintendo charges $150 I think for a replacement. The only other option would be to find one from someone who broke their Wii U but not the tablet.

Yeah, that's just so weird. I was looking at a All In One for my wife one time but they are all missing power cord, keyboard, mouse, etc. Not sure if they don't take them or throw them away or what.

For anybody who has played BO3, would it be worth it at that price for someone who mainly likes SP and the zombies?  The COD games tend to be shitty on the SP and the zombie stuff can be cool, except usually you need to buy $100 of DLC to get the full experience.

Boo, there was a couple things I actually wanted from the sale and forgot what with the rainbow of goo that's been leaking from my face and general inability to focus on anything other than a desire to keel over and die.

Apparently last week I was gifted Orion Prelude (which is apparently on my wishlist even though I have no idea what it is or why it's on my list) not once but twice?  From Parallacks and the devil himself apparently.

Apparently I'm saying apparently a lot.  Apparently it's time for me to drain more goo from my head and pass out again.

I bought some more games for the backlog before the sale ended. I don't plan to get my Alienware Alpha until after I pay my federal taxes, but I was just looking for cheap game pad compatible titles that I will be able to play when I finally get one. That won't be for a while though. I only want an Alpha because it's a kitschy device. I just like oddball machines like that. Lately, I've been playing my Shield TV more than anything else, and most people would consider that a waste of money. I know it's underpowered so we don't have to have that debate again, and I have a PS4 and XB1 already for the more elaborate 3D titles, but I thought I'd share my haul:

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Brutal Legend
Costume Quest
Downwell
Electronic Super Joy
Hydrophobia: Prophecy
Jet Set Radio
Luftrausers
Overlord
Particle Mace
Postal 2
Rocket Knight Adventures
Serious Sam HD Double Pack
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
Sonic Adventure 2
Super House of Dead Ninjas
Tiny & Big: Grandpa's Leftovers
Waves

This sale was so bad that i didn't even buy anything following my traditional fodder purchase at the beginning of each sale.

Worst.

Sale.

Everrrr.
