Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Falcom released today a batch of direct feed screenshots of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, that will be released in Japan for PS Vita on July 21st, and for PS4 next year.

One Piece: Burning Blood Calls In Backup With Support Characters

One of the new announcements is the introduction of support characters into the game, including Mozu and Kiwi as a pair and Bepo. As well as selecting your team of three playable characters, you can also select three support characters.

To bad tales of games don't have asian english releases or fantranslations pre applied as importing would be a breeze.  I've always wanted to play todr and rm2/3.  tales of rays on mobile also looks really good for a phone title using abyss/dawns engine.  I also want to play last ranker someday but thats also not in english.

Heads up: Senran Kagura Estival Versus (PS4) is now sold out for preorder on Best Buy.  I'm pretty sure it will come back in stock at or soon after release date, but I preordered the Vita version just in case.  The Vita version also happens to be the current  2nd bestselling new Vita game at Best Buy behind Aegis of Earth Protonovus Assault.

PSP has been running SNES games for like a decade, I'm sure Nintendo will figure it out eventually.

Or simply sell you another handheld, oh wait...

 
I'm glad its a patch, as (correct me if I'm wrong) patches are region free. I believe you can still get this content using a US PSN with the Asian / English release. 

 
I can't think of any business plan I've liked from Nintendo over the last decade. I'm trying to think of one. What a horrible company they have become. I'm glad the Wii U is flopping, they deserve all the losses they get.

It's about an hour drive for me without traffic (rare) so I wouldn't get to go often. But I've heard that the Round Ones have the latest Arc Sys fighters with all the newest patches out, so I'll definitely make at least one trip when it opens to test them out.

 
Well if Nintendo doesn't want to sell us old 3DS owners SNES games, then they better sell us some GBA games. 

I find it kind of strange that the old 3DS can run GBA games and not SNES games.  That Ambassador program is long overdue for the public.

 
I imagine that better software could do it, but the cpu on the new 3ds is almost 3 times better, so it really could be hardware limited even for Nintendo.

Yeah, I'm an ambassador so I got my free games, but I never cared if they sold them. It's really silly at this point. I do have to admire them for sticking to their guns about it though. They said no GBA games for everyone else and they clearly meant it.

I completely agree. Even when they where doing things right(which was a very long time ago), I think they where just winning by default, and not so much of their own making, but due to others doing poorly(or a lack of competition in general).

I've always said the Wii was their biggest blessing, and their greatest curse. Technically if the Wii had bombed like the U is doing now, it would have made them take a hard look at what they where doing, and I think they would have been the better for it.

Sadly, with the Wii being the HUGE success it was, it made them think they knew more than they did, and rewarded them for making one of their lamest consoles in history. Now they made boat loads of money which was great, as they are in business for that reason, but it allowed them to continue doing dumb shit longer than they should have been able to.

So instead of them saying, "we need to get rid of this gimmick crap, and get back to basic and making great games", they decided to go down the same road to try and strike the same miracle twice, and they failed miserably.

So while I was glad to see the Wii U fail as well, as I would love to see these clowns actually make proper improvements based on such failures, they seem destined to keep doing the same stuff over and over again.

Well, at least Carpe Fulgur aren't working on the translation, which means we can probably shave a year off of that prediction. Also pretty sure that XSeed said that if they're going to do this one ever, it would almost very likely be PC-only as they're done with the PSP. Which is also the uncensored version from what I hear as Japan cut a scene when it was later released on the PSP. I kind of want to know what scene would get censored in Japan, but I'd rather not.

All I know is, fuck you XSeed. I don't want to hear this unless it's 6-12 months from release at the latest. This shit is bad for my health.

Ho-hum... So a day after the XSeed Tweet, Trails in the Sky is on sale everywhere basically. Looks like it lasts up to a week on PSN at least. No idea about Steam/GOG, but it's at least 48 hours on Steam. Oh and NIS EU Store is apparently now selling TitS FC on its storefront.

Trails of Cold Steel's price hasn't changed. I still highly recommend Trails in the Sky for those on the fence that haven't played it yet.

EDIT: It looks like Trails in the Sky: The 3rd will only release on PC and it will come out in 2017. The three games together have also sold a total of 350k copies. Not too surprising I suppose, but glad it hit their benchmark to allow for more from the series. It's also apparently the 5th anniversary from the first english Trails game release as well.
