Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

the latest rumor i saw/heard,  was it was going be a phone like console that has a hmdi connector that can use any screen as a display. the second part of that rumor, was that their be a add on too make it better ( not sure how )  an that is their console/handheld hybrid they were pushing for to enter part of the phone market.

but like all things in till we see it, it's just talk but i have very little faith in the big N atm. so their idea of leaping technologically  forward could just be a simple gimmick that will be copied an made better by others.

Thanks for the responses, funny enough mine came in the mail today. I should know by now that complaining about something on the internet magically fixes it. :p

For anyone planning on buying from Play-Asia soon, I got a $5 off $60 code that I won't use because I order there infrequently. There's a short code and a long code, I'm not sure which actually applies the discount, but here are both:

Edit: I want to play Bayonetta 2, but I haven't bought a Wii U. It's too crappy for me to pay the $300 price. I regret a little bit about not picking up one for myself when TRU had it for $200, but eh. But every time I played it at Comic Con, even before it's release, I couldn't figure out why I needed two screens. I'm not paying $100 so I can see my inventory without pressing a button...

Lucky. USPS totally lost my previous order and it took 2+ months to get a replacement.

Thanks, I used the short code to get Bloodborne The Old Hunters Edition and Deemo the Last Recital.

(not sure about the long code)

I'm not finding as much love for this Aegis Vita as others in this thread. It is decent for the price, but wow is it really, really repetitive. The gameplay is neat though. I especially like how when the same guns (maybe other buildings too but guns for sure) are in adjacent layer they add together and becomes even more powerful. I'm not crazy far though I love my newly unlocked gatling gun. I am really pushing the power though haha. The characters are decently fun though I would love some non story interactions like hey lets hang out and such. The game is relatively tough and the monsters all have their own quirks. It's a $15 dollar game to me at most, and feels more like a simpler type game, but it good to play in short bursts.

I didn't quite like EDF2 like I thought I would. It may just be a bit too repetitive and basic for me. It is pretty mindless, but there is room for those type of games. Oh well it wasn't expensive to get so I'm not crying too much about being meh about it.

Surprised no one mentioned that some of the Miku games are on sale this week on PSN. I guess everyone who wants them must already have them.

 
I'm guessing these are dumb questions, but if i bought the Senran kagura ps4 from Europe, will i have to buy the Euro DLC? Can i access the DLC while logged into my US account?

Yes DLC is region specific and must be bought from regional stores. I think once you download the DLC you're likely good....but I can't vouch for that.

Are you about 3, 4 hours into the game? It was around that time I had to start choosing my weapons (depending on enemy types in stage) strategically and carefully manage my energy for flying and firing (I used palewing). First 3 hours or so you can just blast through each stage with just about any decent weapons. Compared to say DW or Nep U, it definitely had more depth.

I want the first Project Diva for Vita, but it's not on sale. Captive market, I 'suppose. Own the others three.

Honestly it seems like they don't care about these older games. Which is a shame since some of them are even on jpn psn like tales of eternia, phantasia, rebirth, destiny 2 ect. Most of these are rare these days as well so you'd think they'd want to get in on the demand like nintendo and such did for suikoden 2 and earth bound series.

I have all 7 games And I got lucky with the first 4 buying them before they magically became rare but I wish they were more available for those that want to play them but can't afford 200$+ for the whole set of the first games alone.
