Funny you should mention the house be robbed. I suffer from anxiety and I can't leave my headset on for more than 5 minutes without getting paranoid about something happening in my house. I end up playing one ear on, one ear off haha.
 
They just need to let Gears of War die imo. They completely ruined the franchise with Gears 3. They pretty much pulled a Bungie and went all Halo Reach style on it by making it too noob friendly. Oh, you suck at the game and can't get kills with power weapons? Well here's the Digger. Just shoot it and it'll just keep going until it kills someone for you. Oh, you can't active reload to get kills with the Gnasher either? Well here's the Sawed Off. Just camp behind a wall, don't aim and just pull the trigger and everyone will die. Oh, really? Your aim isn't consistent enough for you to kill people with the Lancer? Well, we've got just what you're looking for! Meet the Retro Lancer. It's like the Lancer, but this gun only requires 2-3 hits to get a kill! Wow, you can't kill anyone with the chainsaw either? Well, lucky for you all you have to do is push a button while the Retro Lancer is equipped and you'll go charging like a mad man and instakill anyone in your path!

I also have paranoia when having a headset on or even 2 earbuds, Its one of my biggest reserves with getting into VR, so oblivious to surroundings

Yeah, it's easier to kill people in gears 3 because it actually works. Sorta like how it's easier to win in Street fighter II than in Street Fighter I because the game's mechanics actually work.

You honestly sound really bad at Gears considering the retro is the only problem you listed (and even then I highly doubt you know why the thing is too dominant). The sawed off is one of the worst weapons in the game beyond casual play because it's easily baitable, has one shot, and a huge reload time. With decent wall bouncing skills and gnasher blindfires, there is very little to fear from it,

I've put in 100+ hours and haven't had any issues with my controller.

If you're a fan of the genre, it's a no-brainer at this price. I wish these games would allow you to jam online, but GHTV is the closest thing to it. The learning curve is a little tough from the other 5-button games, but the new challenge is nice. It'll just take time before you can play expert most likely.

I've put in a ridiculous amount of time on Gears 3 for the Horde mode and also really liked the campaign but I've played almost no multiplayer. Don't take away my Gears. I don't know what the multiplayer problems are, but there's plenty to appreciate outside of multiplayer.

I get that it's the Internet and arguing and wasting time is fun, but feel free to let Gears just die for you by not purchasing it. You know, like if your favorite band goes a certain way you don't care for, you can complain online or just not buy the albums. This also goes for old school COD players, NFL fans, Taylor Swift country music fans, Star Wars fans. So your opinion is there, now let the franchise die for you. It's efficient and costs you zero money and energy.

I always felt like Gears improved with each new game barring Judgement. I guess it depends on what you like about the series. As far as weapons in 3, I didn't think anything was all that over or underpowered in the base game.

During it's beta the Retro was king because you could hip fire and do really well, but that aspect was nerfed to oblivion in the base game. The sawed-off was in a similar boat. They put a noticeable "I'm camping here!" light on the end of if, and it's range was definitely dropped. The Digger never felt that amazing to me. You either had to surprise someone or be in like 10 feet to get that instant kill, otherwise it was just a tool to flush someone out of cover. The loadout weapons that took more effort were generally the best options, the Hammerburst with it's ADS sight and active reload, and the Gnasher in all regards with it's ability to instagib still along with having more than two shots.

Now I never was anywhere near competitive-tier, but being able to use all the tools of the sandbox and do OK is generally more fun than the constant wallbouncing and Gnashers-only gameplay of the the earlier stuff. Not that I think change for change's sake is good either, it just depends on what the actual balance of the game ends up being. I'm not as invested in Gears but I know Halo has had some of the same kind of back and forth since Halo 2.

I just hope Gears 4 isn't to GoW like Halo 4 was to Halo. It's great the Rod is in charge, but The Coalition is a new studio just like 343 was. The big positive is that Rod was more heavily involved in the mechanical stuff than I think 343's Frankie was. Plus this studio was already formed with Gears being thrusted upon it, and they actually had a warm up game (GoW Ultimate) to dip their feet in the water with, unlike Halo Anniversary that was outsourced.

No gears beta code for me yet, hopefully in the next wave.

 
Gears has been in a bit of an odd place since the first game's multiplayer turned into a wall bouncing, in-your-face Gnasher-fest instead of the more cover based shooter the devs wanted it to be.  Just about every tweak to the gameplay in 2 and 3 was an attempt to counter the Gnasher, from stopping power to the Retro and Saw-off.  The Gears 1 "4+ K/D ratio all off-host" "purists" bitched and moaned, but high level Gnasher play has a pretty tough learning curve, which, when combined with the Gnasher's inconsistency and the series' notoriously bad netcoding, results in a pretty quick drop off in the player base unless there's something else to keep people around, like Horde.  If Gears is supposed to maintain its status as a AAA franchise for Microsoft, and the production budgets that go with it, they're going to need to do things to keep "casuals" around longer, like trying to reign in the Gnasher or providing alternate options to Vs. MP.

Great post. I would definitely be interested in MP that plays more like the campaign does. I simply have no interest in wall-bouncing, Gnasher hip-firing, etc. How hard would it be to just provide Gnasher-free lobbies?

It'd be pretty boring without the Gnasher, but I do agree the level of skill it takes to pull off those moves consistently is astounding. But that's what makes Gears, Gears.

FYI, if you didn't get codes for all the :360: Gears games for playing GoW:UE, you probably won't get a code for the Beta from Xbox Live.  I played a little bit of the game under a friend's GT and my B-I-L's GT and they never got those codes so I suspect they won't get this code either.

Mid-way thru playing Arkham City, but I'd still pick up an X1 collection that has Asylum and City. Not too bummed Origins isn't included since that's basically like Bioshock 2. Made by a different dev and not quite as good as the others. Would enjoy another play through with all dlc and a fresh coat of paint.....when it hits sub $15. CAG 4 lyfe

Date limit for Gears BC codes was 31st December, for GOW4 Beta it was 11th April iirc
