This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

I think that stuff you mentioned is one of those defining elements of what an actual Mafia series game is (Besides strong narrative, storytelling + character development). Most crime games, like GTA, don't follow those rules of realism like Mafia 1 aimed for.

And you had to literally shoot-out engines & gas-tanks, to blow the cars up. Unlike many other crime-games, in Mafia 1, shooting any part of the car won't light the car up.

Mafia 1 was often so grounded in realism, it really did feel like that helped make the world's immersion factor, making it feel real + alive.

Nah, I've heard plenty of other complaints.

That said, if the game was about the actual Italian Mafia in pseudo-Vegas or something, I would have bought it at launch. And then probably need disappointed because the same dev team that made this game would have turned my pseudo-Vegas Mafia game into a lame open city Ubisoftesque crime game.

Not saying it was the only complaint but it was one of those things that certain forums focused the most on. Then again Gamefaqs is a bigger hive of scum and villainy than the rest of Cheapassgamer forums pegs the Steam forum as.

I have heard this plenty too, but as someone who owns the game and has actually played it, what a bunch of racists think matters nothing to me. The character's motivation is made clear early on and it makes perfect sense.

The majority of complaints, in respect to the PC version, are because its not optimized and its ugly as shit texturally. Not to mention boring missions, weak gunplay, and a run of the mill experience.

It's a damn shame too, because the storytelling, voice acting, and soundtrack are top notch. Its also got a great setting and time period to play in. Its just technically horseshit and even the best equipment doesn't help.

If someone showed you Alien and Aliens and then said "Now they're making an Aliens 3!" and it came out and it was about Jar Jar Binks, I think you could be warranted some disappointment even if they said "Pffftt... there's more than ONE kind of alien, man!".  I mean, sure there is but you've built your expectations on the first two films.  Thankfully, in this world, Aliens 3 was about the same flavor of alien as expected and managed to suck on its own merits instead.

Of course, this doesn't discount the fact that you could just be opposed because you're racist and would have been fine with, say, a Russian Mafia game.

If that's the argument then Mafia 2 should have stayed been another story set in the prohibition era. Interesting you use Jar Jar Binks a racist caricature to try and make a point against a black lead. I mean you could have said E.T. or something but you chose the most offensive option. Interesting.

I could have, except that ET was a well liked character and Jar Jar was pretty universally hated. I mean, I guess I could have gone with Mac from Mac & Me except then I'd have to explain who Mac was. Anyway, don't strain a muscle reaching so far.

Saying that my example suggests that Mafia 2 should have stayed a prohibition story is silly, given that Aliens happened decades after Alien. Did you never see the films? Want to guess what they DID have in common and is directly related to the name of the movies? :lol:

You have continued to ignore that your one problem you admit to having with the game is that it's not about the Italian Mafia has been answered to in my first post on the subject.

It very well is and this isn't the first time I have stated that it is. The Italian Mafia is at the heart of the story and your decisions shape their influence on the city portrayed in the game. The problem is people see a black main and it's instantly assumed the game is about common backstreet gangbangers.

Superhot is superfun, but supershort. If you've reached a point in your life where you just can't commit to really long games, you should consider giving Superhot a whirl. I finished it in a little over 3 hours. Though the average person could probably finish it in 2 to 2 1/2 hours. I ran into a bit of trouble on the final level. Which is the only reason my playtime is as high as it is.

Thanks in part to the shortness of Superhot, I've now completed 3 games this month. I wasn't even planning to try to do the 4 for February thing this year, but I'm already 75% to that goal. Might as well go for it.

"Involving" is different than "about". But I'm not going to waste a second day on this -- if you can only accept "Must be racist" as a reason to dislike a change in the franchise's focus then I'll leave that on you.

Grappledrome looks like it might be ok, but I own too many games in the $5 tier to make it worth the buy. 2/4 owned from the $1 tier, 4/8 owned out of the $5 tier.

I might have to bite on that BS bundle.

The only reason I even semi fakeybroed Mafia III was because it had a person of color as the main character. We don't get that enough so I support when I can. If you're a scrotum dwelling Trump/Bannon supporter I'm sure you're screaming "reverse racism" right now.

I think complaining it's not technically a game about the mafia is a bit silly given it's a work of fiction and never claimed to be historically accurate. That said, I don't think Syntax has a racist bone in his body, but I can't speak on racist boners. If I had a racist boner inside me I don't know what I'd do or say.

I've played Claudette in DbD so I can't be racist. Game, set, match.

I don't begrudge Mafia III existing. I'm just personally less interested in it because I want a game that feels like a thematic continuation of the previous games I enjoyed rather than the route they took. It's not so I'm treating it like a generic open-world crime game, of which I own several, so I'm not especially anxious to buy another one until it's bundled or super cheap.

I really enjoyed Metro 2033 and Last Light but if they said the next Metro is an open world game set in the London Underground, I'd be "wtf?" and stay wary of buying it -- then Flowette could get all offended that I must be British Racist because there's more than one Metro system.

Also, the game is floating around $20 now so it must be doing the FO4 price tango.
