Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Yup no price reveal yet. I'm sticking with my $549 at least, sounds like they will be losing money even at that price.

I know Phil Spencer has said this will be a premium product and Xbox One S will continue to be the cheaper mainstream product.

I'm going to make a not so bold prediction. If the Scorpio is higher than $500, it will flop. If it is more than $400 it will sell poorly. I think $399 would be the sweet spot to compete with the PS4. We all understand that it is significantly more powerful than the PS4 Pro, but I don't think the mainstream consumer will understand or care.

This Scorpio thing is all nice and neat, but at the end of the day, I really just want to see new Xbox games.  I hope they have some good AAA surprise announcements at E3.  Something aside from the main staples of Gears/Halo/Forza.

After watching both videos, I can say that it all sounds awesome. It is clear that MS cares about us a consumers - seeing as how they are making sure everything we own already will work (sometimes better) on Scorpio.

As predicted, price and date will most definitely be on Sunday, 6/11 at 5pm EST.

Is that E3? That's kind of when I figured they would release more info and possibly gameplay examples.

If it's $400, I'll bite. I don't expect that however. I do expect my gf to beat me for getting a tv and machine in the fall if this all pans out.

The specs video if very technical, but I think these are the highlights for discussion.

-The biggest takeaway from development is that they actually looked at current games to figure out bottlenecks, and specifically targeted those issues. I think this means at the very least that first-party games are going to be ridiculous. This makes sense to me since Microsoft is a software company first and for most.

-Believes 4K Ultra PC settings but 30 FPS instead of 60 is feasible for Forza

-Forza 6 was ported and fully functional in just 2 days. With 4K assets and resolution, it was running at 60 FPS while only using about 65% of Scorpio's power.

-Microsoft said they don't won't to leave people with 1080p displays behind. ALL features will be available no matter what display you use.

-All engines should be capable of native 4K display, including games that are currently 900p

-Playing on 1080p display all games will use super-sampling by default. Super-sampling means rendering the game at a higher resolution than your display, it's basically a brute force anti-aliasing technique. Should mean no more or at least vastly reduced jaggies in all games.

-Speculated that certain engines should work really well without much tweaking, implied DICE/EA's Frostbite, Unreal Engine 4, and whatever Forza uses based on some of the very technical stuff.

-Hinted that backwards compatibility is greatly improved, but no details yet. I think we're getting a video for this.

-We're going to get a specific Turn 10 Forza video with more details on how they were able use Scorpio, and several more Scorpio videos based on his trip.

You know what the mainstream gamer will understand? It plays Call of Duty, GTA 5, and Destiny 2 at the best possible resolution and framerate. That's all they'll care about.

I think Donken and that $549 prediction are looking pretty on point. That sucker is going to be expensive.

Apologies to Donken for calling him Dokken. Auto correct in my brain!

Whoop, I guess that other video is the BC discussion video. It's a lot easier to understand so I'd just recommend watching it. Digital Foundry actually is also referring to Xbox One games as BC as well, which I guess they technically are.

Main points

-Xbone games are also getting forced V-sync like 360 BC games get, meaning no screen tearing. Also getting up to 16x anti-aliasing filter over the 4x we currently have.

-A resolution bump on old games will require a patch, much like PS4 Pro.

-Games with dynamic resolutions (Halo 5, Gears 4, Overwatch) should run at the max resolution at all times.

-Games with not reaching their target framerate should always do so.

-Each individual game is getting direct attention like current 360 BC to make sure no weird bugs crop up as a result of the improvements. If they find issues in testing than some of the benefits may be scaled back. Worst case scenario a game will run exactly the same as on a regular Xbox One. A comparison to PS4 Pro's Boost Mode is made, and he points out that very few games have issues like this.

-360 games should run even better.

Dude, It's Donken. I don't even think Dokken wants to be called Dokken anymore.

So I just skipped about 10 pages of the thread. Did I miss any deals/bc news?

Just in case the Scorpio is so hot that it sets us all on fire, just wanted to say it's been a pleasure serving alongside all of you.

And here... we... go....
Seeing these two posts, all I can think of is this:

As for the Scorpio itself, it definitely sounds like it should be impressive (that I understand half the jargon used), but who knows when I'll bother getting one. Between a $500 price (my prediction), and the fact I still rock a 720p TV since I can't really upgrade much thanks to space issues, I'll be in the "waiting for a price drop" camp.

You and me both. What the Scorpio means for me is that it will be a great time to get an Xbox One S from ppl upgrading this year. Then in a few years get a Scorpio once it's down to $299 with a game.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-project-scorpio-tech-revealed

It was also heartening to see that Microsoft has retained an internal power supply: in this case, a 245W universal voltage PSU that Del Castillo reckons is the most efficient in Xbox history. On the rear of the unit, the arrangement of ports is identical to Xbox One S, including the standard figure-eight power socket (as opposed to the much larger 'kettle' cable arrangement used on PS4 Pro). The thinking here is that those who've plumbed their Xbox One S into their AV set-up can swap over to Scorpio with next to no effort. Since port arrangement is based on Xbox One S, there's no return for the original Xbox One's Kinect port (a USB adapter is required) but the HDMI input is retained. The final form factor - the 'ID' as Microsoft calls it - will be revealed at E3, where we suspect you will be pleasantly surprised.

Sarah Ryder still looks like they based her face off of a monkey.

Also, can someone make the Star Wars Unlimited Power gif with the Scorpio/Xbox/or Spencer face as the emperor and the PS4/Sony as Mace? I think that will get used a lot over the next couple of years. You could be loosely associated with it if you can throw it together quick before anyone else has!

I agree. Now explain them the difference between a PS4 Pro and an Xbox Scorpio. Both play at 4K, have a better frame rate, and can play all current generation games. One costs $399 and another potentially $549. You can spit out that a bunch of technical mumbo-jumbo about how they built it with better silicone. In the end though, they are not going to be able to tell the difference on the poorly calibrated tv at Best Buy. With the major difference in price. I just don't think people would buy it for $150 more. Don't get me wrong as someone who only owns an Xbox One, I would love to pick one up if the price is right. However, I just don't think the mainstream gamer is as dedicated as I am.

This. We're to the point that very few people care about extra power because it's so hard to demonstrate the benefit to average people. It's really just the fringe enthusiast that notice or care. It's really tough to see much difference even if you have a great TV since most people aren't technically inclined and/or just simply don't care. I'm still baffled that my kids are fine watching TV on their phone or iPad when a big screen TV is in the next room. A lot of people just want to sit down and play whatever is convenient and relatively economical. The one bombshell that you didn't mention is that Sony surely has plenty of room for price cuts up it's sleeve when Scorpio does release, so it won't surprise me if PS4 Pro could be as low as $299 at that point if they feel they need to compete.

I'm just glad they are finally beefing up the system, power, and graphics to be able to play the flood of 8 bitish games and platformers this gen

When I'm playing on my old ass hdtv with average ass eyes it should really make a difference when I jump hit jump hit jump hit

I think the selling point will be that multiplats look and run best on Scorpio, and that's it. When I sell consoles, the benefits of the Pro already aren't enough to sway virtually any of my customers from the much cheaper standard consoles. Only hardcore who are aware of the actual differences show interest and usually are planning to buy it anyways

Spencer has been saying for months that this is only aimed at the super hardcore, a premium console. As long as they're planning around this and don't over produce, it'll probably be a win for them.

1. Scorpio is badass (and this is coming from someone who mostly dislikes the Xbox One).

2. I'll be absolutely stunned if it's less than $599 at launch.  You guys have unrealistic price expectations.

As someone who defected from X360 to PS4, it's nice to see Microsoft putting out an awesome console again.  Price competition with the PS4 Pro is going to be a problem though, unless Microsoft is willing to take huge losses on the hardware.

They probably don't understand a $150 controller either, but that didn't stop MS from pricing it as a premium product.

A better comparison is a reg Xbox controller to a Elite Xbox controller. Both get the job done but the Elite is better in every way, same way between Xbox S and the Scropio. Both will play the same game but the Scropio will be better in every way. If your inclined to buy a Elite then it stands you'll be the same when it comes to the Scropio.

The only reason I said $549 instead of $599 is that I was thinking back to this...

So let me just point out one historical observation about the viability of Scorpio launching at $500+.  Consoles that launched $100 or more than their competition at the time: NeoGeo $650 vs $200, 3DO $700 vs $200, Saturn $400 vs $300, PS3 $500/$600 vs $300.  What happened to all of those consoles that were technologically superior?  Through a combination of price and lack of software they fell right on their faces and only the PS3 really ever recovered and took 5-6 years of high quality exclusive software and price reductions.

With what they're talking about power wise they probably do have to sell it over $500 not to take a bath on each unit but they're going to have a really hard time with that.  Even getting consumers educated about why it's worth the premium and to break the $400 price point ceiling is going to take a lot of time and money.  Latest estimates seem to put Sony up 2:1 on install base so you need to pull some of those consumers back over too but they're going to have to have some Scorpio exclusive games that wouldn't even be possible on the other systems.

I have also wondered about the point of Scorpio since we first learned about it. I would think that the number of people who would be excited enough about prettier games to pay what we assume will be a high price tag is going to be pretty small. I don't think there are a lot of holdouts at this point who haven't bought an XB1 simply because the games don't look good enough or have high enough frame rates. So you're essentially looking for enthusiasts who want to double-dip. I think at this stage of the console's life cycle, you expand the user base with price cuts and bundles, not suped-up versions of the same console at a higher price.

What really makes me wonder is the fact that there won't be separate games for it. Sure, MS doesn't want to splinter the user base, and I get that. But a lot of consumers will need a reason to upgrade or jump in with a Scorpio, and that reason would be exclusive games. Even if new XB1 games won't be gimped to run on current XB1 models and Scorpio simultaneously, it will be hard to escape that perception.

I think they're going to have to sell this at a loss for it to have any real impact, and even then I wonder if it will be worth it to MS, as it's not really going to broaden the install base like continuing to drop the price of the standard XB1 would. We'll see, though.

it not having exclusive scorpio games works great for me and I'd assume a lot of not majority of other xbox owners that will just play their current into the ground, buy the scorpio when it's cheap and nearing the end of the generation and simply unplug the external full of games from the old into the new. I will be quite surprised if this thing turns into a success.

now if they change their mind when money gets waved at them to create exclusives for the system it changes things but I just think with diminishing graphic returns to the casual users with average setups this thing is destined to maybe not fail but certainly not be the success they are hoping for

My sense is that this "no-Scorpio exclusive games" is PR talk and a only a temporary mandate for developers. They want people to continue to buy the XB1. And they want to warm people up to the idea of Scorpio as a premium XB1 product and not a replacement (so they can charge a higher price at launch). As time goes on, I expect there will be Scorpio exclusive titles (maybe gimped for XB1, like how the original Titanfall was developed for XB1 then ported by another company to the 360). And I expect Scorpio to fall in price so that the masses can upgrade from the XB1 at a more reasonable price point.

Which MS has already done. From $499 to $299 and a redesign all in 3+ years. Even dipping to $250 for BF last year. And a bunch of times since for $250 (the Minecraft bundle seems to be that price anytime I look). That is what helped them outsell Sony for a few months. I was semi interested in the Pro. Decided it wasn't worth it to me (Don't have a 4K set). Trade my PS4 fat and got a slim with a free year of PS+ and a $50 GC.

Probably do something similar with my 1 year old OG XBox One. Maybe some decent deals this BF for a XBox One S with a GC or game or something.

I think for many people having both a PS4 and Xbox One for $500-$600 or less is more attractive then a Scorpio for $499+. Lets you play all the exclusives (outside Nintendo). For those who have a 4K set and are die hard XBox fans they will upgrade.
