Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Hey while we're on the topic of p5, gimme some ideas on some videos to make for p5. I have 180 hours of footage and I'm almost done with my second playthrough. (Had to pause the playthrough to get a bigger hard drive)

An utterly amazing game, a true masterpiece of storytelling and presentation. It's not a perfect game, nothing is, but more than makes up for it with what it does well. In past Persona games, there's been a few characters I didn't like out of the bunch, like Ken in P3, Yukiko and Naoto in P4 (sorry), but I really love the entire P5 cast and most of the confidants.

The story is also fantastic, there is so much at stake, and the game isn't afraid to take risks and twists along the way. Which brings me to a very important warning, if you haven't been spoiled about the story yet, play the game IMMEDIATELY. Wow, there is a ton that could be spoiled, and would be amazing to see it all for the first time. There's a couple of things I've seen beforehand and regret it greatly. Also, don't try to beat the game in one sitting! Especially the last few chapters, because the game will seem to drag on. Even the game tells you in the loading screen, "take your time," because unlike most games, P5 requires you to absorb a lot of info and develop lasting relationships with the characters. Rushing through everything winds up decreasing the emotional investment in my opinion.

I would probably give it a 10 if I had to assign a number, but I'm using animals now so I'll give this game a Platinum Platypus. Just like GTA V, for the next couple of games I play, I'll be thinking "why couldn't it be like Persona 5?"



P.S. Try beating the game with only one lover/waifu. I did it for Makoto, and I feel like those specific story segments in the end were amazing narratives by themselves.

Yeah I'd give it a 10 too. The game isn't without its flaws, but overall, to the point that I've played (I'm at what I think is the last battle for the true ending), I'd say that it is arguably the best game that I've ever played. The visual presentation, storyline, characters, and soundtrack are all among the very best that I've ever experienced.

:( It was a copy with the generic GS box grrrr... well I brought coz it seems like a rare a game since its the only one in this whole area...at least the employee probably didn't know what kind of game it was with the generic GS box haha...

From what I understand, it's not like Ar Nosurge tho coz AN is more turn-based and AT3 isn't actually though..

I like when the hair is over the shoulder with or without a braid myself. Jesus why are so many people banned today? Hoping it was just a glitch or something since deal seeker of all people didn't deserve a ban. An actual noob never posted anything worth banning him for either from what I've seen.

Finally gave up on platting Berserk. Endless Eclipse is so god damn boring and the fact you have to beat it with every character including worthless Casca...just not worth it. I may  go back to it later but for now I'm moving on. If the Griffith battle at the end of the Eclipse wasn't so bad I would pull it off but that fight alone can easily take 30-40 minutes if you get unlucky with his juggles.

All you folks talking about Persona 5 makes me want to jump into that but I'm debating knocking out a couple shorter games. Decisions, decisions.

I've made that decision on many a games. Some the difficulty isn't a factor so much as the lengthy trophies or trophy requirements that I have to do for a platinum. Gal*Gun, and Tokyo Twilight are good examples of that.

30-40 minutes is being generous if playing as Casca. Once Femto hits his last stage and ups the invisible force balls it feels like a game of blernsball.

Yeah Judeau pissed me off to the point I almost quit, playing 5 levels of Eclipse with Casca made me quit.

Use Skull Knight's horse and just run in circles until you can use your special move. Casca's specially specifically is insanely weak, but it's a reliable way to beat Griffith at Level 100 with any character. You can also synthesize items to increase it's recharge rate, make it more powerful, etc. but that's a very time consuming process. By the time I platted Berserk I was at ~90 hours, at least half of it was the stupid Endless Eclipse.

I've already got maxed stats on hawk idols with all the pertinent boosters. I did battle of doldrey with all the gold boosting dice as soon as I got the permanent berserker armor to grind gold and got all my characters max leveled before starting endless eclipse with anyone after Guts. I can get through 5 eclipse levels in an average of 5 minutes but that Griffith fight is just way too cheap, riding the horse around the perimeter until you can go into fury then waiting until you can press O again is not fun. I may come back to it down the line because I am a huge fan but I'm just burned out at the moment.

Anywho, other topic I went to buy Toukiden 2 at Best Buy and it just shows sold out on PS4. Grand, I guess I shouldn't have waited on it. Any news on a kiwami version?

I wouldn't dream of making you feel foolish BRW! They're just a gaming community I really like, short for 'Easy Allies'. Check out their E3 betting special video if you have the time and want some 90's gaming mag feeling goof to get hyped for E3. I also meant there's a user 'PikaGreg' I see on CAG sometimes and I've seen them sub during EZA streams.

I'm about 50 hours in DQH2. Been playing it slowly, inching towards the plat. However, a part of me want to give up on getting the plat and save myself another 100+ hours of mashing square and triangle.

Would you recommend to keep going or stop? PS: I got plat on the last 8 games I played this year (nier, p5, gr2, y0, tales of b, nioh, horizon, mass effect)

If it'd be a chore to keep playing and otherwise not fun, move on to something else and consider coming back to DQH2 later.

DQH1 was a massive grind for the plat too, don't let it take too much time if you aren't into it.

I watched that video after not having watched them in awhile last night and man they're hilarious. Betting all in on Brand Manager was a good call :p

P5 Story Spoilers

I actually did not expect the Akechi twist, mainly because I took a long break after the pancake scene and forgot it happened. But I did remember I knew he would be a villain when I saw that scene, just completely forgot. They also tend to keep their villains in a mystery death state, like the one in P3, and never beat P4 but he does return in P4A. So I'm guessing it's possible that he didn't die, but I'm guessing more that he did die but like Morgana he became a part of cognition again after Mementos was destroyed and returns. He does hold the Wild Card too I think, so there's definitely potential for a spinoff/episode Akechi saga.

There's a couple of other notable twists too, the Igor one like you mentioned, which made perfect sense with the voice actors. The Caroline/Justine/Lavenza thing, which wasn't too much of a twist, but I knew it would happen since someone spoiled it for me beforehand. But I kept thinking the person they mentioned made the list might've been Margaret. Identity of Morgana too, since an earlier interview said he had another form, I guess they meant the real life cat or car, but I thought he might've been human.

Yeah, Nier is amazing too. Both games show that story telling and presentation are just as important as graphics and gameplay.

From what I gather, Super Duck stuff is usually the head and the clothes. And you can attach it to a type of body which has to be purchased separately. Unless this is somehow different? I saw a Hong Kong based online store that is selling that for about $64. Body is about $46. http://www.kghobby.com/super-duck-set015-1-6-scale-sexy-robot-head-sculpt-costume-set/

Since I don't really buy these type of figures, I don't know if there are such things as recasts/bootlegs for this like they have for normal figures and garage kits. I also don't know how reputable that store is either, but it was the first that I found. So you may want to do some research regarding that.

 
Not much in the way of interesting releases this week outside of ports unless you're interested in ARMS on the Switch. Out of the ports, Castle of Shikigami from the PS2 era is getting a proper translation this time around on its PC port. I'm surprised to see A-Train being localized in English on PC, but at $60 there's no way I'm buying it anytime soon. E3 is this week as well.

There was a rumor a few weeks back on 4chan that Monster Hunter XX would be ported to the Switch prior to the announcement and also mentioned a new Monster Hunter game would be coming to the PS4. If I'm not mistaken it was stated Sony payed Capcom to create a new MH for the PS4 that would be more targeted towards the Western audience.

Yeah I saw that, I also saw some eBay listings with the full body plus everything, I was just looking for a main website to pre-order one with that since I don't like pre-ordering stuff on eBay.
