Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I'd look for $40. And wait for 30.

Dangerous Driving captured the Burnout 3 spirit damn well.

Kingdom Hearts III might be a good niece purchase. It's pretty easy, even on Proud (previously the hardest mode until Critical was patched in). Keep in mind it's not short, so I don't know how far they would get.

Siege is on a free weekend right now, so just download it and give it a shot.
While the themes and difficulty might be niece friendly, I'd say the story itself is far too convoluted for them to hold interest long enough to see it through. It may be Mickey and Donald and Woody, but they won't know what the heck is going on in it.

The same could be said of adults who've played through the rest of the serious, though. Comprehensive storytelling ain't Nomura's strong suit.

All I can do is laugh...

It's been over 3 years since Microsoft announced a new IP and this is what they give us. Yikes indeed. Doesn't give me much confidence for all the other new acquisitions if they're gonna be forced into making multiplayer games. Yes, I know this was in development for 4 years, but there's a reason why they couldn't find a publisher for it until Microsoft bought them.

Wait, they are the makers of Enslaved? Who do I talk to, to finally make that fuck DLC go on sale?!
Pigsy's Perfect 10 was pretty good, but it's so short. I'd rebuy it on 360 if it went on sale.

It'll be on Game Pass, which is probably one of the reasons it's getting released at all, just like GP helped Crackdown 3 (b/c no one would have bought it for $60). So at least a lot of folks can try it for free(ish).

The most interesting thing to me to ever see a game inside report on is how developers or game companies get paid when a game is added to gwg or gamepass. Is it a flat rate, per download, sacrificed to drum up dlc business etc. always interests me.

How can you think they were forced into making this to Microsoft's specifications if they've been making it for 4 years? One year would not have been enough completely shift the game into what it is now.

Ninja Theory had trouble getting games published because of the backlash to DmC, and the financial failure of Enslaved, which was a multiplatform game that failed to reach 500,000 sales.

I don't think makes sense to be totally cynical about all the acquisitions yet. By your logic, shouldn't we be super hyped for the acquisitions because of The Outer Worlds?

Designs are really the only weak spot (though a noticeable one). It'll be a hit on Game Pass due to the guaranteed pop as long as the gameplay's good.
I agree about more SP titles being needed but as was previously mentioned, it's a small separate team (20ish people supposedly) and they've been working on it for 5 years. So it's not like it cost MS much to make it happen.
Keep in mind that Sony is specifically aiming to pump up their lackluster first-party MP output to compete with MS next gen (because live services make a lot more $$$ than SP even if SP games have been system sellers lately) so MS still has to compete in that space.
At least this throwaway project is preferable to them starting a new MP IP from scratch.

SAME. I would love to know this.

From what I've gathered though, it seems like a flat rate. On reddit, one of the developers of a newly released GP game insinuated that they don't get additional $s from more people trying out their game. So it seems like it's not per download. That also seems to make sense based on the Game Pass Quests. The quests make you try out new games. If Microsoft pays more money due to more people downloading a game, you would think their quests wouldn't encourage people to keep downloading new stuff because then they'd have to pay more out of pocket.

What I envision is that developers have an estimate of how much they'd make each year from sales. Microsoft probably has similar estimates. Microsoft says we'll pay you $X which is somewhat close to or maybe above the developers' estimates. The developers get a guaranteed return and have completely removed market risk out of their equation. This is what I'm envisioning for new titles.

For old/existing games, Microsoft probably says, look you made $Y in the past 12 months. You'll probably make $Z in the next 12 months, we'll pay you something close to that if you let us put this on Game Pass.

They probably also use DLCs as an additional negotiation point. Let us put this on Game Pass, it will encourage sales of your DLCs...etc.

Well it's not announced yet, looks leaked. We may have more to your liking come Sunday.

Ninja Theory had trouble getting games published because of the backlash to DmC, and the financial failure of Enslaved, which was a multiplatform game that failed to reach 500,000 sales.
I never understood the backlash to their DmC reboot. I really liked that game and got pretty good reviews as well.

Heck, I see 86 on Metacritic. Devil May Cry 5 has an 87.

How can you think they were forced into making this to Microsoft's specifications if they've been making it for 4 years? One year would not have been enough completely shift the game into what it is now.

I don't think makes sense to be totally cynical about all the acquisitions yet. By your logic, shouldn't we be super hyped for the acquisitions because of The Outer Worlds?
No, because Outer Worlds isn't published by Microsoft. I'm not exactly enthusiastic about what their next game will be given Microsoft's track record of forcing their studios into multiplayer.

Look, the reality is Microsoft does force their first party studios to make multiplayer games, there's no denying that. Look at the history. The last Microsoft IP that was wholely single player was Recore and that wasn't even a first party studio, neither is the studio who makes Ori. I'm not saying it's a bad policy, I enjoy Sea Of Thieves a lot, but a few more single player games would do wonders for their portfolio.

Yes MS forced Ninja Theory to make a multiplayer game after acquiring them and they whipped up one in only a year. Does that make sense to you?

Did you read my post all the way through? I acknowledged that the game was in development for 4 years before Microsoft bought them.

Do you have proof (links to credible articles) of this forced multiplayer from Microsoft or are you just full of shit? I thought I remember reading that Sea of Thieves was Rares idea and Microsoft was pretty clear with the studios it bought that they could continue making the games they wanted. I’ll find the video from Ninja Theory where they say that...

Adding an exclusive to Game Pass and getting it out the door after all that work vs scrapping it is definitely preferable for everyone involved. If it ends up being fun, even better. I had very low expectations for Crackdown 3 and found it perfectly entertaining for what it was.

Ninja Theory also gave us Hellblade, so even if this new game sucks, it's way too soon to be shouting doom and gloom. Even Platinum games has made some shitty games, but people still get excited when their name is attached to something.

Agreed that the SP games outside of flagship series need better budgets and attention. ReCore should have been so much more polished than it was at release, it's absurd to enlist a name like Inafune and then make it a budget title. At least the definitive edition made it a more rounded experience.

And then went on saying MS forces first party studios to make multiplayer games which is false. It's cool if you don't like multiplayer games but there's no need to spread misinformatiom or create false narratives.

Don’t believe this was posted but MS had a Venom/Spider-Man Homecoming 4K bundle for $10.99 as the deal is the day. Should port to other services via MA.

Awesome thank you my 3 year old loves venom on his cartoon how was this movie? I see it's PG-13 how do you think this would be for a little one usually I feel like the marvel movies are pretty ok for younger kids

Unless he's been exposed to some scarier stuff I don't think this is a good fit for a 3 year old. He eats people bites off heads, and while it's not bloody it's clear what's happening.

Hmmm..wouldn’t personally say Venom is a “scary” movie but it probably would be for a 3-year-old. Know I wouldn’t let a 3-year-old watch it.

Thanks guys haven't seen it yet myself so I wasn't sure how it would be, I think we'll wait until he's older the cartoon on Disney will suffice for him for now

Where's the evidence that they're not forcing their studios into multiplayer? Phil Spencer can say what he wants but until one of their studuos actually releases a AAA game with no multiplayer then I won't believe it.

The big variable here is Obsidian, who have never made a multiplayer game I believe. If Outer Worlds 2 has a multiplayer component that will be very telling.

The fact that the perception of Sony's dominance is due to their quality single player experiences (God of War, Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, TLOU, etc) leads me to think nobody in their right mind within MS would force multi-player to the developers.

MS just needs developers with better priorities.

This. All of Sony’s big exclusives are single player games and MS needs to counter this.

LOL. That's not how that works. You're the one making the claim, hence you're the one that has to provide evidence to support it. For instance, we've known about Bleeding Edge for months now and how it's been in development for years and KNEW when it was revealed at E3 to the public, people like you would spin this false narrative of MS forcing first party studios to make multiplayer games. It was so predictable.

But maybe the future isn’t exclusives. We keep seeing crossplay, that Sony is always trailing behind in, so maybe the future is all multi platform and cross play. I don’t think single player exclusives are the key, while Sony has had tent pole franchises, so does Microsoft.

Stuff like this is nothing but PR fluff. Until Xbox actually starts releasing single player games I have no reason to believe it.
Okay... my point is, you made an accusation of Microsoft’s guilt of forcing Devs to include multiplayer with no evidence. Then you asked us to prove there innocence, I post a video of a dev saying they didn’t want to join Microsoft unless they could still make the games they want to make. Now you move the goal post to, “Well acccktually I need to see Microsoft’s version of Spider-man or otherwise I think they are forcing Devs to make multiplayer games.” Okay dude, I get it, you already have your own narrative in your head and even proof of you being wrong doesn’t matter to you.

Maybe the reality is, Ninja Theory had this game almost finished and they want to sell skins in the game to help fund the next project they have and that seemed like a better idea then just cancelling it. I have no proof of this but it’s just as likely as your theory of the evil Microsoft chaining them to there desks and forcing them to code Multiplayer.

The evidence is almost a decade of their first party studios not releasing a game without multiplayer, simple as that. Concrete evidence, not PR statements.

It's fine as a game, more so after the Definitive Edition, but it is trash as a DMC. The whole attitude and tone in the game goes against what people that are fans of the series like, and there were a lot of questionable design choices with the combat for people that were fans of the depth of DMC 3 and 4. I'm not saying the game doesn't have merit, but it's like saying Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is a good successor to the mainline Resident evil games.

Now, I think it's safe to say that most of this was not Ninja Theory's fault. We now know that this whole thing came about from Infune wanting to appeal to the West then fucking off of Capcom like a month after development started, while Capcom proper kept enforcing that it should be as different as possible. Still, they blame fell on the actual developer, not the publisher. As for review scores, remember that they are not the only metric that should be considered. DMC fans LOVE DMC5. These fans also held a successful campaign to get the DMC HD Trilogy higher in sales the week of launch than DmC>

I think a better comparison would be looking at user review scores, while these obviously have flaws, years after launch I think it's safe to look at them. Now let's look at DMC's more popular platform and initial release.

DMC 5 - PS4 - User Score 8.4

DmC - PS3 - User score 5.4

Did they ever fix the problem with bundles w/ 4k only porting to MA as HD or HDX? If so, I might be interested in upgrading these to 4k w/ some Xbox space money.
I’m only aware of issues with iTunes bundles porting to MA in HD. The other providers don’t seem to have an issue so this bundle should port 4K.

I keep eyeing that Sega Genesis collection, I think that might be better then buying that mini console coming out. I’m not sure that I need another plastic console even if it is just a mini.

I think this is more a symptom of the lack of games rather than a forced mandate. We've primarily been getting primarily Halo, Gears and Forza propping up Xbox for most of this generation, and if we're going back 10 years we're looking at the dark age of Kinect 360 (which tended to only have local co-op at best). Personally I think the only new game I could say had a forced, tacked-on multiplayer in a while is Crackdown 3. A game like State of Decay having a fully fleshed out multiplayer is the same, and I don't think you can pin the Dead Rising stuff on Microsoft either. If a studio wanted to try something new while independent, I don't see the big deal. Hell, Platinum Games made a game like this a while back for Sega, called Anarchy Reigns.

My point about The Outer Worlds was not the publisher it has, but the fact that these studios already had games in development well before the acquisition by MS. Do you really think MS is going to force competitive multiplayer into games like Wasteland 3?

I would say the mandated stuff from Microsoft was the monetization schemes, lootbox/card based nonsense like we see in Halo 5, Gears 4, and Halo Wars 2. For most of the (few) other games we've had this generation, I don't think a whole lot felt like a forced multiplayer mode in what would otherwise be totally single player. Personally I think this applies much more to EA than it ever did Microsoft. Hell, single-player games from Sony that really didn't need multiplayer like Last of Us and Uncharted had modes filled to the brim with microtransactions.

I keep thinking y'all are incorrectly referring to Outer Wilds, and then realized you weren't and this is something else entirely.

Anyway, that's the only thing I've gotten out of all the posts I've skipped.

New Yooka-Laylee game announced for all platforms. It's a 2D "spin-off", though I'm not sure if you can call it that after only one game. Out this year.

The last two movie 4K bundle (Spider-man: Homecoming & Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse) ported into MA as 4K with no issues for me.

Ok, now you're going so far back into the past that you're conflating everything together now. Remember this all started from Ninja Theory New IP leaked trailer when you made your claim. Did MS FORCE Ninja theory to make a multiplayer game? No. Did MS FORCE Rare to make a multiplayer focused game in Sea of Thieves? No. Is MS forcing their newly acquired studios to make multiplayer games or have a multiplayer component? No

In the past, particularly during this generation MS was mismanaging projects snd studios hence all the troubled development and cacelled projects like Crackdown 3, Fable Legends, Phantom Dust Remake/Reboot, and Scalebound and studio closures like Lionhead or letting studios go like Twisted Pixel. This put a halt on their budget and they had to make due with what they had with smaller projects like Recore or Super Lucky's Tale instead of the Big Budget Triple A games like Quantum Break. However Nadella seeing the future with services and streaming made Xbox a core pillar of MS and a huge reorganization occured to fix past problems as well as open the checkbook and reinvest in First Party and they started with opening and acquiring more studios but more importantly allowing them creative control.

MS is not blind and sees the success Sony has had with their big budget, graphics showcase, singleplayer, third person, cinematic, narrative driven, action, adventure games and will be countering with their own but those take a lot of time to make.
