#13904931 PSN Weekly Deals - 4/10: Rockstar Sale! $20 Owlboy, $14 Aegis D...

Posted by CheepyDee on 12 December 2017 - 08:01 PM in Video Game Deals

Received a $10 code that expires the end of the month...I know their aim is to incite me to spend extra cash but probably better to take the chance on a random indie title or two for a few bucks a piece.

Any recommendations?

The weird promo page that only lists 10 games a page and can't be sorted by platform is garbage.

Yeah the console stores in general are a pain to navigate. For me, the worst is when you add an item to the cart, select "continue shopping" only for it to kick you to the top of the menu after scrolling down for 5 minutes. And at least with the eShop, you're not constantly bombarded by ads and DLC pushing.

Never. My theory is that is sorts by base price rather than current/sale price.

That's one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while. Seems like something I would've been able to fix in a Visual Basic course.

Isn't the psn code, just a code to redeem? It literally just adds $10 to your wallet.

Hoping I misread it. Now that you mention it, yeah, of course it probably applies to the code itself, not the funds. Here's to hoping I was the dumb one.

nothing is particularly 'easy' to fix in a live store environment. I mean, yeah, sure, the actual bug is easy to fix. but first it has to get to the top of a priority list, get a tech assigned to it, get fixed, be qa'd in a test environment, rolled up into a larger update...

You don't just fix bugs in a store like PSN. You jump through many, many hoops first.

Doesn't seem like a bug. This is always the case. Always has been. Tells me something is fundamentally wrong with the code. Regardless, if it's indeed a bug, it takes this long to fix it? Come on now.

what do you think a bug is? i mean, you're literally describing a bug ["something is fundamentally wrong with the code"] then saying it doesn't sound like a bug.  bugs don't just pop up out of nowhere, they're hidden in the code.

No, a bug is when two or more functional lines of code collide and create an unforseen consequence.

This is not that. The code itself is not written properly. It's not a bug, it's fundamentally improper coding. Big difference.

I view trophy hunting as a sort of collect-a-thon.

People comparing these to literal trophies are missing the point; we could call PSN trophies "starberries" and starberry enthuisiasts will want to collect as many as they could.

A platinum trophy tells me "wow, this person knows just about everything there is to know about this game" and that's about it. Trophy wars also made for fun competition. As someone who once cared deeply for trophies, they have absolutely nothing to do with showing off (unless you're directly engaging in a competition) or collecting something of value.

Overwatch is on sale for $30? Ya don't say. That never happens, ever.

I'm a bit of a sucker for steelbooks, but I already own the retail cartridge. I'd probably pay $10 just for the case itself, but I don't see that happening because I doubt the store will sell it individually. I'm not really sure how I feel about seeing it currently lol.

Wondering if you'd be able to buy this and simply return just the game. Something tells me they won't even care about the steelbook or know about it at customer service.

Both are excellent, but Xenoblade is just about as JRPG as JRPG's go - lots of cutscenes, tutorials, and systems to keep track of.  Warriors is a typical button masher from Tecmo Koei, but the character animations and music are very well done - a great podcast game.  Really depends on what you're in the mood for!

My strategy of waiting on Best Buy to run a Switch-centered sale in December apparently failed.  We didn't even get the 10-15% eShop card sale yet...

Frankly I don't see why Nintendo would ever want to discount their games in Decemeber. I mean, they rarely do it in general so why do it at the time of year when people are most willing to spend MSRP?

Big sale. Huge sale. And when I say huge, I mean HUGE. You're gonna love it. You're gonna love the biggest sale of all big sales.

Edit: And everyone's forgetting a major point in why people would pick a game on PSN over Switch. Switch sales suck. Why pay more, to have less?

You're making a big mistake of trying to transform something completely subjective into something objective. What do you mean by "have less?" You mean as in graphics? Well what if that gamer's priority is to have that game on an airplane? No PSN discount will magically make a game portable.

You could get him a normal PSN card and let him use it to buy LocoRoco.

Yeah, but it just doesnt seem as personal. I like giving particular games as gifts on Steam because they recepients would not have bought them otherwise. Most of the time, they end up enjoying it. I believe a gift should partially come from the heart/brain, not just the wallet.

#13906294 Microsoft.com - 12 Days of Deals 2017

oh OK, cool. Not much different than Best Buy's offerings, which nets me rewards points. But cool I guess. I would think they'd have steeper discounts though, seeing as how they don't have to pay a middle man. Then again they probably have an unspoken contract of not undercutting their retailers. Who knows.

I like how people are arguing over whether this is a bug or not when the only true way to know is if you have the business logic in hand. This could be WAD or a bug, but we’ll never know! Because even if they change it, that could be considered “fixing a bug” or “improvement of code”....let it go....

true. My main point was that it seems like an easy thing to fix, whatever you want to call it. Main point got swept under the rug by trivial, unrelated debate of semantics.

#13911238 GameFly Year-End Sale

Posted by CheepyDee on 21 December 2017 - 04:37 PM in Video Game Deals

I've seen much better from Gamefly in the past. Many of these prices either a) were the same as last year (or less) or b) can be had brand new for a few bucks more. For example, I bought Mirror's Edge Catalyst for $8 during the last GF dump sale (not the $10 listed today!!). Battlefield 1 Revolution was on sale for $20 new, rendering a used vannila copy at $15 not much of a value. Amazon had Mass Effect ANdromeda for $10 a couple weeks ago.

Jon Wick 2 was on sale on Best Buy for $10, as was its 4k counterpart on blackfriday and few days after. Buying it used at this price is insanity.

So many other examples, I can't continue listing them.

Suffice it to say...if this were truly clearance, GF should have been more competitive. Which leads me to believe this is not clearance and they're simply entering the conventional used games market.

Just realized Hellblade is digital-only. Wow, way to break conventions - that looks like a physically-based game if I've ever seen one. I was hoping for more than a mere 20% off :-/

#13912045 Steam+ Deals Mega Thread (All PC Gaming Deals)

Wtf? Why are some of the OP's links sending me to realtor.com lol... Update those links. This thread is supposedly where one should go to look at the list of Steam games on sale but no go. What is the point of this thread anyway?

Wolfenstein 2 was $20 on BF...ouch! Waiting for a better deal on TEW2. The first was down to like 15 a mere month after release, now they're practically trying to give it away. Will wait on that one

Oh, and those waiting for Nintendo game deals need to have their heads examined. You have two options: 1 - buy on day 1 and hopefully it'll have a $10 code as Mario did or 2 - wait for a b1g1 50% off deal which are a rarity these days and certainly not at BB

so the reason why the link redirects me to realtor.com is because "1"?

Where was Wolfenstein 2 $20 on BF? It was $25 at many places but don’t think I saw $20 anywhere.

yes, $25, and I had forgotten that GCU did not apply which would have made is $20. Still..

#13912889 Destiny 2 PS4, XBox One, PC $22.99 / $18.39 (GCU) at Best Buy

This fell a lot faster than I thought

lots of these premium games hellbent on dlc and microtransactions know that theyre basically a freemium game wherein their money comes after buying the vanilla copy. And after all the negative press $20 seems like a no brainer for Activision.

I am enjoying this game way more than the first one.  On my tv this game looks amazing and I am not a graphics hound like that but for me it hammered home how good a game can look on a 4k tv.

My new LG 4k has this default "Standard" mode that basically pre processes frames in a way that makes every single game appear to be unlocked/60 fps. However, for games that run at a locked 30 like Destiny, it comes at the cost of input lag. So for shooters and the like, I have to put it into game mode to get a 30fps an next to nothing 19 ms lag. Even then, it looks incredible with HDR and checkerboard "4k" rendering.
