Weird, that's exactly how much it costs to go to the dentist!

#14369938 Best Buy GCU to be discontinued 3-1-2021

Posted by Kerig on 15 January 2021 - 02:58 PM in Video Game Deals

when i first joined, it was really cheap, then later they changed it to $120 for a 2-year sub. THEN they had that weird phone offer if you bought any phone, you saved about $100 off the price of GCU, so we bought $10 burner phones and it ended up making GCU even cheaper than it was ($15/year?). I traded a nephew my phone for his Snickers bar. All of these stories are from memory only, take with a grain of sea salt.

#14369889 Best Buy GCU to be discontinued 3-1-2021

Anyone else remember when GCU first started, they would have coupons in the magazine?

Remember that one time Best Buy got drunk and they raised the price of GCU to $120? Those were funny times.

#14333038 Aliexpress and Credit Card Fraud

Posted by Kerig on 08 October 2020 - 03:43 AM in Lifestyle & Off Topic

I made my first purchase today on Aliexpress, bought two small trinket items.  Thought I would use Paypal like most places offer, but they didn't accept that, so I used a credit card that I only use for online purchases.

~6 hours later, my CC company texts me asking about some flagged charge attempts that they declined from doordash.  I've never used doordash before, so it couldn't be from them directly.

In 25+ years of having credit cards, this is the very first time I've ever had a fraud attempt requiring the shutting down and reissuing of a CC.

25 years without aliexpress = fine

6 hours with aliexpress = fraud.

I looked it up online, and most people turn a blind eye, blaming computer malware and pretend that it's not aliexpress at fault.  I did the aliexpress purchases at work, on a very secure network/computer.

With that said, I want to buy dumb cheap junk on aliexpress, but fool me once rules say no more using a credit card.  Any suggestions on a foolproof way to buy from them without trying to have food delivered 2,000 miles away without your consent?

Also looking for confirmation of fraud or no fraud experience with them.  Literally the 1st transaction rung my bell.  Fortunately my credit card company was somehow smart enough to decline the bad transactions before they were charged.  Kudos to Bank of America for letting me buy from China to Middle America, but putting the kibosh on ordering Chinese food from California.

#14333034 Is this site no longer that active?

Posted by Kerig on 08 October 2020 - 03:21 AM in Shopping Discussions

I don't wander throughout the site or post comments much these days, but I still check CAG almost every day to scroll through the twitter feed on the right hand side to see videogamedeals, cheapyd, shipwreck, and wombat posts. I don't use twitter directly unless I'm trying to never win a CAG contest or reply to a compelling post.

Also: I have never missed an episode of the CAGCast from episode 1.  It has been my favorite podcast for 10 years longer than I thought the show would exist.

Deals may come and go, but CAG will always be my home...on the internet.

#14317415 Select eBay Accounts: $25 off $25.01 YMMV

Posted by Kerig on 29 August 2020 - 12:11 PM in Video Game Deals

Worked for me, not solicited at all (but I always see the "get 5% bonus bucks" offers on the main page)

Bought 10lbs of Copper Sulfate Crystals for $1.50+tax net.

(flush about 2 cups of this stuff down your toilet every 6 months to prevent tree roots from clogging your pipes)

#14316425 Starlink accessories at Dollar Tree

Posted by Kerig on 25 August 2020 - 07:38 AM in Video Game Deals

Stock makes no sense for these. Went to 4 locations (looking for the 2-pack of mini pizza crusts to no avail), 3 stores had no Starlink, 1 store had at least 21 pilots (just Razor and Levi).

#14311227 New Monthly $5 Dollar Cert for Power Up Rewards Pro

Posted by Kerig on 03 August 2020 - 12:02 PM in Video Game Deals

The new online only coupons redeemable with points say $5/$10/etc off one item and free value shipping. Does this mean no minimum of $35 when using the coupon? Their wording is suggestive at best.

#14306322 Strider PS4 - $2.99

Posted by Kerig on 15 July 2020 - 12:12 PM in Video Game Deals

It was also part of the $1 tier of a Playstation Humble Bundle. That's how I got my copy.

Great game! They actually kept it 2D,which I always appreciate.

Dragons Crown Pro is an excellent co-op game, so you can play with him.

The sheer amount of Ginormous Tits et al. in that game got so many sour looks from just about anyone walking by during any cutscene paintings or shop screens. You may have mistaken "play with a 6-year-old" for play with yourself.

Have they never? I've been watching for a while too but assumed I missed out once or twice back in the day.

According to PSPrices.com, never ever. Game goes on sale all the time, but never the pass.

#14283186 PSN Weekly Deals - 2/10: Big in Japan Sale ends 2/25, Critics' Choice Sal...

Posted by Kerig on 23 April 2020 - 01:19 AM in Video Game Deals

From my experience over the years, they rarely ever discount season passes. I think that's their scheme, honestly. They discount the games frequently to "hook" you into buying them, knowing that you'll pay full price for a season pass when you're sick of waiting for it to go on sale.

I bought the digital deluxe version of Strange Brigade for $15 instead of the vanilla version for $10.  That included the season pass which was well worth it.  Funny enough, it's by the same people (Rebellion) not putting the Zombie Army 4 pass on sale.

Guess they just wait longer than most so they don't turn into Ubisoft.

EDIT/UPDATE: I suppose you could say they like selling the complete package cheaper, but not just the season pass to those who know they like the game.  I took a chance on Strange Brigade, it's been a ton of fun.

I'm still waiting for Resogun to put their season pass on sale...from 2016.

#14280708 Children of Morta (PS4) - $15 [Amazon/Gamestop]

#14278079 The Gamestop Thread

Posted by Kerig on 03 April 2020 - 10:59 PM in Video Game Deals

That sucks. I enjoyed the first game. Guess I wont get this one.

He didn't even mention the 4/5 episodes on disc with a one-time-use code for the final episode... Never seen that before (at least Telltale let you DL missing episodes by simply having the disc)

#14277445 Target Clearance Thread XXIV

Any idea how to use our monthly $5 pro certificate now with the stores being pickup only? April's shows in my account with the wording:"Monthly V2 Online Only" but the coupon code doesn't work online and still says "valid in-store only".

#14277255 PSN Weekly Deals - 2/10: Big in Japan Sale ends 2/25, Critics' Choice Sal...

Posted by Kerig on 01 April 2020 - 03:35 PM in Video Game Deals

Looks like the sale is live now with the games I've checked so far ending on 4/29, so it's not broken up into two separate halves.

First game I checked was LEGO Jurassic World, that one shows as on sale until 4/15 (the lineup change date)
