Finally some of the older PS4 exclusives get a sale. But God of War 3 remastered at $15.99 just feels like a F-you from Sony.

As disappointing as it may be that there aren't a lot of older games on sale, it's even more disappointing for me because most of the games they put on sale are available physically. If a game is available both physically and as a download, I'd prefer to own it physically. So I've got close to 60 items on my wishlist that are download-only and never go on sale. Some of them are very old at this point, Fruit Ninja VR has been out three years and never once on sale. At least you can get the games you want if you buy them physically, I've no choice but to pay full price on the games I'm waiting for.
Can't argue that either. There's a small handful of previous-gen titles I am the same way with where it's an odd "HD re-release" or something that never came to disc and I haven't seen on sale in years.
Otherwise I've turned away from physical for current-gen. I guess I just don't expect them to even still work when the day comes to shut everything down. At the very least I can pick up most of the PS4 stuff I want cheap on disc.
Such a disappointing Black Friday sale. I'm a much newer comer to PS4 and would like to pick up some of the older stuff. Not only are most of the prices not even a match with the all-time low, but they completely forget about some games.
God of War 3, Bloodborne, and Infamous haven't been to $10 or less in almost a year. I could argue that was too much based on previous sales but I'm a buyer on at least one of them at $10. At least I can pick up the Nathan Drake collection, but it's not even a best price.
What gives Sony? It's not exactly making me excited for another gen when I can't even get any sales on current gen games.
Does anyone know anywhere that's still good to follow Xbox 360 deals? I already grabbed a few of the X1 deals, but I do still like my old games too. There's still a lot of deals on there but they are hard to find in an easy format anymore.
I didn't see this posted here but I got an e-mail on November 6 from Best Buy with the following:
Save 25% on any game.
Gamer's Club Unlocked has ended. But, you're still a My Best Buy member with access to exclusive deals and so much more.
The coupon says it lasts until May so no rush to use.
If you're one of the lucky that still has GCU, it combines too! Mine expires on Monday and I'm trying to push myself a lot more digital because of it, so I went ahead and used the coupon now. I was able to re-do my Cyberpunk 2077 pre-order so I'm now getting it for $35.99 and I'll get the $10 reward certificate when it comes out too.
Seems to work on the fancy collectors editions as well. I had thought about buying the Death Stranding collectors edition and reselling it for full price. The before-tax price on that with both discounts was $119.99! I just didn't want to mess with it to end up netting $25 after fees and shipping costs, etc.
Now I get them to acknowledge I am owed the credit but I'm on some list with a ton of other customers that's been escalated to a developer. Still not holding my breath. I'm going to be disregarding any such Amazon promo in the future, there's too many other places to buy games. I never expected such hassle from them. My prime is up in a couple weeks too so it will be decision time there.
One more no-go for me from Amazon. If anyone has any way to prove the promo or some secret wording to get the right person in chat let me know. They won't look at the Twitch link.
I really didn't expect this from Amazon, I've never had problems with them before. They might should check how much I bought from Gamestop after they screwed me on a tiny credit. Amazon has a lot more to lose from me.
Still no credit for me (I bought TLOU on July 25). I reached out on the chat with the links and screenshot from here and the chat guy supposedly forwarded it to the "leadership" and it will be fixed in 24-48 hours. At this point I'll not hold my breath.
I guess I'm in for the Jedi Academy game at least. Somehow I missed that one when it was free. No idea how, I've wanted that one a while and I even pick up free games I'm not interested in.
Hopefully by next gen they will make it so I don't need to go on a 360 to use store credit on older games.
I've had arguments with people about this before, who say they don't mind paid unlocks if you can still play to unlock it, not considering that the company makes it take 10,000 hours to unlock everything for free instead of 100 to push people toward those microtransactions.
I agree, huge problem. It's probably the final nail in the COD coffin for me. They put the guns behind a massive grind with a time limit. I never even got the 1st AR (the SWAT I think it was called) and I was playing a lot at that time. The only other option was to hand over your $$$. Not a small amount of your $$$ either. I'd be down for a reasonable $30 multiplayer season pass that included lots of map adds and guns. Or just make the guns a quest like in WWII. Hell, I wanted the zombies maps but even the COD pass or whatever they called it seemed rip-off.
Whether you find it valuable or not, DLC prices has gotten crazy. To think the complaint used to be about horse armor for what was it like $2.50 or $5? Now a $20 Fortnite skin is commonplace. But apparently crazy people buy them.
I wish someone still posted the weekly deals for BB and Target. :(
Does someone know a link for a how-to? I looked all around and couldn't figure out how to do all the little Xbox and PS4 icons and such. I was going to type up this week's Best Buy ones since no one had and I thought a few were decent. Not something I can commit to every week, but I would post up this weeks.
Yakuza 0 became one of my favorite games after picking it up just off recommendations and has me hooked on that series and world. Really looking forward to Jusgemenet but forgot all about it, and glad I did or I wouldve bought it at launch last month lol
I'm planning to start with Yakuza 0 I'll probably put it next on the list after I finish Spider-Man. I try to not have more than 4 campaigns at a time going
1) God of War is a masterpiece and no dlc, unlikely to see the price lower unless you go second hand, but absolutely worth it.
2) THANK YOU for mentioning the sale prices being better than the fake Black Friday. Judgement is on sale for $40 but now that it isn't part of the BF, GCU works on it so nabbed a copy for $32!
I went ahead and grabbed God of War, I'm going to have a hard time beating $15.99 GCU price by more than a buck anytime soon. I've not had the PS4 long and already have picked up a few games for it (and still have a zillon of Xbox backlogs), so I had been holding off for a lot of them to be to $9.99 on PSN. God of War looks like never been below $20 anyway. I'll have to hold off playing it, seems like as a CAGer I'm always getting a "new" game so have to quit playing every new game a few hours until the next one shows up.
Glad you were able to get Judgment cheap. Not one I'd heard of or put on my PS4 list until this week. Looks like yet another fun single player game that the PS4 is loaded with apparently.
God of War is also $19.99. Can't decide to grab it or wait if I likely won't play for a few months. Already have Spider-man.
I'm not sure where to officially post a list but Best Buy's sale this week looks better than their disappointing fake black friday sale.
Just an FYI, if you bought the PS4 new there should be a 20% off code towards digital games in a pamphlet.
Really? I checked for all kinds of codes and just looked again and nothing but some manuals. It was a PS4 Slim new and sealed from Amazon. Unfortunately missed the Pro deal but I not one to be that bothered by only being 1080p
Thanks for the heads up anyway though
Doom 3 disc installs all 3 games better do that before that option is pulled next.
The ports don't have online functions either. Doom 3 is 60fps though supposedly.
I'm curious is there history of backwards compatible games becoming not-BC because of a re-release? I understand if they want to quit selling it or never made it BC to begin with, but I've not heard of any examples of them making it unplayable for existing owners.
I haven't made it through Doom 3 BFG yet, I can play it on 360 if I have to but I'd rather not.
Crazy how no one wants AC Unity so bad you can get it for 59 cents. If you've ever enjoyed an Assassin's Creed game and you're really cheap or broke and want something to do...spend your 59 cents.
I put like 50 hours into Unity back when I bought my X1 AC bundle. It has it's issues--but it's not THAT bad.
Another trick (what I did) if you want more than $25. I did two orders:
First order - (2) $25 cards and the discount code 40RAISEAF for $10 off, so $50 for $33.12
Second order - (1) $25 card, use discount code MIDSUMMER and the $5 credit you get for being a new customer, so $25 for $15.05
The short of this is I got $75 for $48.17
Site scared me a bit because they took around 8 hours to send me me codes. I'd also recommend using the codes immediately so you don't worry about the seller using it after they get their $ and then have to mess with support.
Used the referral and other codes. If it works with my two orders I'll have gotten $75 of PSN credit for $48.17. My orders are all sitting in "we are currently processing your payment." So, I have a feeling it's going to be kinda a pain in the ass but I'll get through it.
All in all with that and the Amazon Twitch "free" game, I'm looking at a pretty good first week as a newcomer to PS4. Spending a total of $61.24, roughly the cost of one full price new game, I'll have gotten The Last of Us, $15 of Amazon Credit to use for another game, and $75 of PSN credit. Pretty good way to be all set to build a decent PS4 collection quick.
Edit: I got all three and all three worked. Thanks OP and the one who referred me (the first one to post referral) enjoy your free $5. Now to wait for PSN to have good sales. I'm holding out for the $9.99 prices on the big exclusives for now on the less hyped sales. Will feel like a real CAG combining all these deals to pick up games for like an effective $6.50 each.
I still haven't gotten my damn $10 from that May deal... Every time I call I get put on hold. One time I tried to stick it out, talked to the guy for a while and he had to "escalate it" and he came back a few times, but it ended up being about 30min on hold before I finally gave up....ARGH!
Must be a Gamestop complaint. I'm forever done with that place. Screwed me on some deal last year with this bogus "oh that was while supplies last". Supplies lasted about 10 minutes and you let me buy it. No chance for a refund and no bonuses. I ended up getting credit-card to chargeback them. I wouldn't go back there if they were offering buy a game for $1 and get a free Xbox Scarlett. I'm sure they'd find a way to screw us on that too.
Besides I found this badass locally owned store that will buy and sell games to fill their niche. Prices aren't bad and they have specials occasionally. They also stock every single gaming platform I've ever seen and some I've never heard of.
Maybe this new Home update will make it a bit snappier. I kept hoping they would improve it in some major way like to the scale of what they did with the 360 dash a couple of times but at this point id rather they focus on making the next box better.
Anyone remember the original X1 dashboard and system? Holy crap that was slow. Want to join a party mid game--sure that will be a couple minutes at least.
I actually like the current dashboard and interfaces better than the 360 or the PS4. It's easy to organize my games and put groups on the home screen and easy to use the popup menu. Sure, I'd love to lose all the ads and I think the option to turn certain features (like Mixer and such off) would be nice. But the 360 isn't any better. If anything the main screen on the 360 is literally all ads except a couple tiny options.
This will probably be pretty useful for me. I sometimes want to play a sports game, but don't want to spend a lot in case I either A) don't like it or B) get bored of it super fast.
I've been wanting to try UFC/NHL/Madden for the last few years but couldn't pull the trigger to buy, so this is perfect.
If you're ok playing last years sports titles then it's awesome. I've had on Xbox since launch. I kept buying NHL 16, 17, and 18 annually although I'd usually trade it in late March right before it goes on EA Access. I skipped NHL 19 and am undecided about skipping NHL 20. Only other EA game I've bought was Titanfall 2 for an $8 CAG find really close to it's launch. I bet I have 300-400 hours combined of play in Battlefield and Dragon Age series just from EA Access.
I would be curious what it's done to their sales. I very likely would have spent $75-$100 a year on EA games the last 5 years, versus the $30 for EA Access. I suppose if they are expanding it to other platforms it's a good deal for them.
Edit: I also remembered the 10 hour trial. You can play current sports games for 10 hours. I haven't run into any limitations. That's about as much as I invest in Madden anyway in a year. I've found the campaign-based games to be limited. For example, BF1 you could only play the first chapter during the trial. The rest of your time would have to go to MP.
What's the deal with the PS2 games like Red Faction, Max Payne, Red Dead Revolver, GTA 3/VC/SA? Are they just ports? I thought the PS4 didn't do BC or is this their version?
The PS2 games I believe are all emulated or recompiled PS2 games. I got Red Faction and it plays like any PS4 game and has trophies added but otherwise its all PS2. Even references to not remove the "Memory Card (8MB) (for PlayStation 2)". Fun game by the way if you enjoy older FPS games.
I haven't had PS4 very long to give other recommendations.
