#14270449 Indie/Limited/Obscure Physical Release Deals and Discussion Thread

Posted by woodcan on 09 March 2020 - 04:36 AM in Video Game Deals

Am I missing something?  I went to their website when I got their email about this and didn't see any sales and just checked again and don't see any PS4 or Vita games on sale.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see they are just showing the markdown prices rather than showing a slashed sale price like they did for their last sale.

Since there is no mention about Best Buy on the forgotton anne page we can be pretty sure it's not gonna be sold there right?

I think so and why I bought a copy last minute. That said it’s on sale ending today on eShop

Awe man, last I read you were worried about yours after seeing the pics of all the spotty foil art.  I'm curious too how bad were they?  Just the same foil art issues, crushing, or what?

What kind of damage?

My Star Wars CE has the random spotting and one small chunk missing. All but my Shadows regular editions have damaged corners. My Shadows was bent/warped and one bent edge. Support says this is all “normal manufacturing” and expected on these card backs. They offered me the option for 5% refund on one game and option to return my CE for a 15% restocking fee! I have my last Star Wars game from LRG and unfortunately I’m not hopeful on its condition. This whole ordeal has ruined any faith in them to deliver any sort of CE in decent sable and definitely not Retro games.

I normally would have been all over the Star Wars and Monkey Island Sega CD releases they just had but I could not bring myself to trust them especially is there was an issue.

Man, I would be all over the Monkey Island and Star Wars releases tomorrow if I hadn't just been burned on all of my Star Wars NES, GB, N64 LRG releases that all came in damaged this month.  They were my first LRG CE's that I have ever gotten and they lost all of my faith the way they handled them and my support requests.

I believe I just got my Star Wars CE in today. You have me worried on top of the disappointment about how they made the games “removable without damaging the packaging.” The perforated cardboard was a poor choice IMO.

Throw me in the opener camp. That said, I too don’t open them immediately just because of time constraints.

On the topic of shipping, I feel like I’m on some secret LRG shipping black list because I see all sorts of retweets from them about ppl getting their games weeks before me. Heck, one guy a few posts up got his PS4 CE Blind Box already and mine just shows red...no text on my status page. Another blowout sale purchase I had to open a ticket to which they just said, “this should have shipped out weeks ago, do you still want it?”...🤨 I guess at least they gave me the option to cancel at that point

To be fair, when this thread started the founders of LRG were very active. It’s a pretty informative place even if you don’t buy the titles.

I really started following this thread a little late and hadn't realized LRG employees used to chime in.  Looked back and Josh hasn't even been on the site in over 2 years

Ordered Jan 1 still no shipping. How long does this usually take it was my first time lmao

Depends on what you purchased. Blind boxes aren't ready yet so if you purchased on of those and another game that was ready to ship, they wont ship until everything is ready.

I'm in the same boat.  I made 3 separate orders and only 2 had blind boxes and 1 with leftover games and none of them have shipped or are even ready to ship with a number of items just showing red and nothing else.

Resell groups have been telling people to buy the stock up to flip tbh

gross

First big shipment from LRG for 2020 arrived a few days ago. It included my copy of Metal Storm's collectors edition, Siralim 3, and The Duck Game. It's been fairly rare for me to pony up for CEs, but Metal Storm is an exception I was willing to make. And thankfully, the final product appears to be worth it. The game arrived in good condition, and the CE box is very nice. The foil in particular is very nice, and makes a good accent. The NES box for the game itself is also high quality, and I would even say it is better than the original NES box. (which I still have) The rest of the extras are all solid, but the game itself and the CE box were my primary concern. Fairly satisfied with this one, but I wouldn't have gone for it if I weren't a huge Metal Storm fan. (beaten both of the original game's campaigns on the original cartridge)

My Metal Storm is still sitting in the box in my room.  I don't know why I haven't busted it open (probably this weekend) since it's probably my most anticipated game I've ordered from LRG...even though they were just a distributor

Bite your tongue. Metal Storm is a fantastic game, one of the few masochistic titles that I have played all the way through on the NES.

And, tomorrow is going to be pretty damaging for my wallet. I've held back on quite a few releases recently, even to the point of avoiding the Kemco RPGs. But WayForward is a personal weakness. I buy almost all of their games. Even the licensed ones. Vitamin Connection and the Might Switch Force Collection are easy sells. Mystik Belle also seems to be a solid Metroidvania, so I'll likely get that as well, despite it being only published through WayForward, and developed by a different team.

I hear you. I'm torn on whether I should splurge for the Vitamin Connection CE because I'm a sucker for plushes.  The other games I'm just going to order regular editions.

So, on the New Years Blowout sale I thought all games were “in-hand” and would ship immediately 🤔. I made 2 separate orders and one has one game status simply as red and the other says the Nintendo Switch Blind Box is “In Production” with estimated ship of February 2020 and my PS4 CE Blind Box as simply red....what happened to the blind boxes being for already produced/released games?!?

Night Trap vita is still impossible to complete

So, is the digital version also broken or do the patches from digital not apply to the cart?

I was thinking about getting Divinity: Original Sin II but I see its listed as going to be sold a bestbuy
https://limitedrunga...sin-ii-preorder

Of course they add the following to scare people on the fence (or maybe to cover their behinds)

Best Buy has the ability to not move forward with their order, as it has not been finalized yet. Wait at your own risk.

I stopped supporting them after they raised the price of Blasphemous at the last minute and claimed it was an error.

Woah, I guess I missed this. LRG decisions this year have really got me questioning supporting them vs my desire to have physical copies of games (at a premium price 😒)

Well I bit on Blossom Tales, Dark Devotion and Divinity Original Sin 2 on Switch! Hope January doesn't have anything else I want.

I’m in the same boat, I plan to order these before the end of the day but trying to decide if I need a physical copy of Dark Devotion.

I recently got one of those PS4 controller phone clips -- remote play on Android is absolutely fantastic.

Well, while inside the house anyway. I haven't been able to get Remote Play to work outside of my home wifi. I enabled all the ports as well as UPNP. Only thing I haven't tried so far is DMZ the PS4.

Apparently I've been living under a rock and never realized Remote Play was expanded beyond the Vita.  I'm going to have to look into this over the break.

Best Buy finally put some LRG titles on sale besides Power Rangers:

Lumines Remastered - $19.99

https://www.bestbuy....p?skuId=6361851

Windjammers - $19.99

https://www.bestbuy....p?skuId=6332232

Giga Wrecker Alt. - $29.99

https://www.bestbuy....p?skuId=6358567

Also, not on sale, but it looks like Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon sold out online:

https://www.bestbuy....p?skuId=6308315

I went ahead and did in-store pickup for Lumines and Windjammers (glad I waited and didn't order from LRG  :- ).  Glad to see they are still listed on sale today because I just picked up Gigawrecker back on the 11th so they better price-match.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me gaming is basically portable or not at all at this point. At home it's me, my wife, our two kids, and one TV. The chances of me getting that TV to myself consistently enough to finish a game are near zero. In theory I could use my PC since it's perfectly capable, but I don't like it as much as I used to. I generally don't have large chunks of free time to devote to games, instead I have several small chunks of free time. Even if I did have the time it feels kind of isolated being off on my own compared to sitting next to my family on the couch. On the other hand, sometimes I like being alone for a while, but the PC needs to stay in a common area where everyone can use it if they need to. Plus I have to be able to stop everything at a moment's notice to go be a dad. And I often play games in other places than my home. And I've always had an affinity for portables even when I was more into console/PC gaming. And a computer chair will never be as comfortable as a couch, bed, recliner, etc. And I have this weird preference for carts over disks (and especially over digital)...

Having a portable system solves all these problems without having to rearrange any other part of my life or home. Sure, the games look, sound, and run better on PC, but when you take all this stuff into consideration they're actually less fun to play on PC for me, and I'd have a lot less time to play them. I like the Switch a lot, but more than that it's benefiting from being the only game in town when it comes to portables. The Vita and 3DS are both great too, as are the other portables I've ended up with over the years, but they're functionally dead at this point.

So there you go. That's why I want all my games on Switch now!

I'm kind of in the same boat and have similar feelings.  I've been buying more games lately on Switch just because it lets me stay with the family when appropriate.  Granted, once the family is asleep is when I hit up the multiplayer games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty on the XB1/PS4.

One will be loose and rattling the other will not.

Meow

I'm new to this thread but I guess it's common knowledge/acceptance that many disc games from LRG are loose in their game case when they arrive unless you order with a box.  Seriously, every single one of my games they have sent me in an envelope is loose inside the case. It's really hard for me to believe that "it's the post office's fault" since it hasn't happened with any other supplier I've received games from in the mail.  My only solace is that the Blurays "should" not be getting scratched but really sucks for those games I am keeping sealed because it just makes them feel cheap.

I'm torn with the rare game purchasing myself.  I have a handful of LRG games but I've gotten on a retro game kick and been buying Famicom games and NES games I loved in my childhood but only ever rented.  It's crazy how expensive some of that stuff gets but it's been a real pleasure playing some Japan exclusive Famicom games on original hardware with a 13" CRT that don't necessarily require the ability to read/understand Japanese.

I'm seeing so many photos on Instagram and Twitter from people who've gotten theirs, and I guess I somehow wound up at the very end of the list.  I pre-ordered my Switch copy in the first couple minutes when things went up two months ago, and mine's still "Unfulfilled".  One day!  Maybe.

I just got my Switch copy this week and it took a while after I got a shipping notification.

How good or bad was the packaging? I got damaged art books from them awhile back, and both got damaged due to there beyond poor packaging. If said items had good padding and looked secure, you may have just gotten unlucky(or build quality is shit), but my guess is on the first option. LOL

Big box but just some crumpled paper like they put in the small add-on LRG box.  Basically, the paper did not secure anything from sliding around in the box.  They could have either been packaged broken or because it was packed so poorly any amount of movement would have broken them.

What's the story on Bird King PS4

Was supposed to be released at an event but event was cancelled last minute along with the game.  So, the digital version did not get a release and an LRG employee owns all of the hard copies (I don't exactly recall if he was also the developer).  He is only selling them in-person now at events he goes to because he was getting harassed by people online criticizing him about the whole thing.

Tried a search of this thread and didn't see anything but I decided when I made one of my LRG orders this Summer to add a PS4 and a Switch display stand.  Order came in today (big box since it was a game, protective cases, etc) and the both display stands are broken.  I opened a ticket but my question is whether other folks have had similar issues with the stands or if just uniquely got unlucky with both of mine.
