Almost tempted, but has there been any word on the redesign.
All news has been strictly rumor, and Sony themselves deny the rumors time and time again. If you want a PSP, I'd say just go for it...the free battery deal is even better than get a free greatest hits game that some stores offer.

It's an online deal only but you should be able to place an order online for in-store pickup if you want to avoid shipping fee or pick your own PSP with a particular firmware revision for downgrade. Is this online only? I need to buy one B&M. Whats the battery life of the extra battery, and doesnt hte PSP come with a battery?
The PSP system comes with a standard battery which is 1800mAh, I believe. The free battery pack is 2200mAh, which holds a bit more charge and last longer.

Or, just check with the store manager and see if s/he can match the deal for you since you don't have a CC to take advantage of the deal online.
When you pick up your PSP in the store, explain that you want to pick a firmware revision. Most of the time they will let you if you're nice about it. The firmware revision is coded outside the box, so you don't have to open the box.
The box codes can be found here.

I don't know. Perhaps you can buy a giftcard in the store and use it online. If the instore kiosk lets you, order it there with the giftcard for in-store pickup (sounds stupid since you're already in the store).

Looks like the downgrader from 3.50 is now available! Is this the best deal I'm going to find on a PSP for the time being (likely anyways?). Also, can't you downgrade with Lumines now anyways, so it's no longer an issue what firmware you start out with?
