Biggest Collectors edition weakness?

What, in a collectors edition, makes you want to buy it pretty much by it self :P?
My weakness is steelbooks, I just can't get enough of their shiny, shiny, shininess :D and they always look pretty...

DLC that is something more than just a weapon. If it comes with a special maps or levels then I really want it. I don't like big boxes or addition stuff unless its like a DVD/bluray or game.

I'm a sucker for pretty boxes. And clearance prices.

Steel books but it got a point where I just ask myself why do I need all of this shit?

I went through a steelbook phase and then started asking myself "why do I want all these steelbooks again?". Steelbooks look nice but they're so easily scratched/dented/chipped that I can't bring myself to bother with them anymore, especially since most of the ones I want are only released overseas.

Artbooks and soundtracks for me. Steelbooks too!

Leaning more towards the little goodies inside collector's editions, which aren't easily available separately, usually get me rather than the case for it.

Exclusive bonuses in the game itself.

ex. Glowy hands when doing emotes in Guild Wars.

Coffee table status books.

However I don't see the value in CE when I can pick them up in a few months for a fraction of the price (looking at you SWTOR CE :) ).

Soundtracks are one for me. But particularly if it's on CD and not a download because I highly prefer lossless.

Another is in-universe items or things that enhance the immersion or tangibility while playing. For example the journal from halo reach, or the novel from Alan wake. Things that have substantial creative content in them and not just baubles thrown together. Not a CE example specifically but I bought the paper map pack for Arma II because I find it more fun to look down at a folded map than use an in game map on screen.

Well done or creative packaging also gets me sometimes. Like the halo reach ONI box or the fallout 3 lunchbox (again an in-universe item too). The Borderlands loot chest thing falls into this category too but the price was a little steep on that one.

I'm actually turned off somewhat by statues. I wouldn't display them anyways so if there's a statue involved I actually find it much easier to pass on the CE with no regrets.

Artbooks (especially hardcover ones) and CD soundtracks. Just about anything else is simply a nice extra.

Anything physical really. IE; soundtracks, artbooks, figures, bobbleheads, and stuff along those lines. Digital stuff is nice, but it loses its allure by being digital and most likely sold at a later date.

I only buy the collector's edition if it's heavily discounted. Otherwise, it is a waste of money.

Any unique packaging (steels included) or artsy physical bonuses, like the ACB jack-in-the-box. Sometimes for digital bonuses if they give a clear advantage, like early access or something.

Steelbooks. Now I will mostly buy a game if it doesn't take up too much space. Some of these collector editions take up too much space (I'm looking at you Borderlands 2), and most of those stuff I put back in the box anyway.

Honestly, I'm just happy if the publisher would just upgrade me to a steelbook if I pre-order, like AC3.

Ha, yes, as a CAG clearly this is the correct answer. Halo 3 Legendary for $16 from Toys R Us...one of my all-time favorite scores. Though I've bought some at msrp if they were free upgrades (Dark Souls, Last Story) price is the big factor. Other than that, I'm looking for statues / physical goods, art / guide books, and custom cases.

Oh and it has to actually be a GOOD GAME. Half of the crap that gets collector's editions baffles me.

Exclusive DLC.

Artbooks and soundtracks can usually be purchased separately down the line, and a big statue will actively make me not want to purchase the CE.

Steelbooks are cool too.

1. Something from the game.

I mean like an item in the game that they made a collectible out of. Like with Trails in the Sky you got the badge that the characters wear, and with the Infamous 2 CE you got the backpack that Cole wears. Ni No Kuni has the book from the game too. Lunar 2 Eternal Blue had that cool pendant also. Things like that. I'll almost always buy a CE if it has an item like that at launch. I love those.

Anybody know any other CEs that had items like that?

I was really tempted by the Borderlands CE 'cause it had the loot chest, but I didn't actually like Borderlands.

2. Art Books (Hard cover or it doesn't matter)
3. Statues
4. Steel Books.

After that it kinda trails off. DLC? Worthless to me. Even if the game its only $10 more than the regular edition for like exclusive skins, weapons, areas, etc I don't give a damn.

Mainly if I can find one on clearance unless it is 1st print or limited run for a game I like / want. If it is for one I want / like then I will get it for things such as steelbook, DLC enhancing the game, artbook, soundtrack, statue, figurine, and or other physical goodies.

Here are some that I know of off the top of my head:

Halo Reach: Halsley's Journal can be briefly seen in the game
Fallout 3: Both the bobble head and lunch box are items that can be picked up/used in the game
Fallout New Vegas: Haven't played it yet but the lucky 38 platinum coin supposedly plays a role in the story. Poker chips from the other casinos too
Alan Wake: novel that is not actually in the game AFAIK but written as if it were in-universe
Gears of War 3: The Oculus medal thing can be seen in the game

I know there are more, but can't think of any right now.

I have a certain weakness for steelbooks. I love having my media encased in pressed metal, possibly embossed on the front. But while I like this, I don't always shell out extra money for it. So for my biggest weakness, I would have to say artbooks. I love art, I love books, and I love the combination of those two things. This is a large part of why I keep picking up Blizzard collector editions, despite their exorbitant prices. They always include large, well made artbooks.

I have Halo Reach: Legendary and Alan Wake: Collectors, if you can find them, very shiny XD
The Alan Wake book is actually very, very interesting :)

Only worthwhile in game content can get me to buy one. I'm not a collector and sell/trade games after I'm done with them, so special cases don't appeal to me. Nor do I have any interest in figurines or other knickknacks, art books etc.

Getting at cheap price. Probably never play the games or open them.

Price has become #1 for me with CE's. That's followed by artbooks and I'm not talking about chintzy lil ones that should've been included with pre-orders of the game(looking at you, Catherine AND GTA IV Special Edition).

The artbooks for Bioshock 2's LE and the Skyrim CE are far and away the best I've seen this gen so far. Then again, I haven't really bought that many CE's since they're always priced so ridiculously and when they do finally drop to stupid cheap prices they get snapped up long before I can find them most times.

i added a link to more wang pics. yu wang i mean not wang wang as in penis.

The only one I ever bought was GTA4. The soundtrack was great, the steel box is a great place to keep important stuff (no, I don't lock it), still got the keychain, still use the dufflebag. I hope they knock it out of the park with GTA5.
But when his drinking and lusting and his hunger for power became known to more and more people, the demands to do something about this outrageous man became louder and louder.

soundtracks are the biggest for me, or special DLC. i personally cannot stand Steelbooks, they dent, and scratch easily, and they make it much harder to take the disc out to the point i am afraid i might break it. examples of that would be FF12, ME2, and ME3 steelbooks. i avoid them now

Giant containers seem to be my new weakness. Already have the Ultimate Loot Chest Borderlands on order. Going to get the Care Package Call of Duty when I can.
