I used to be tax free on trade credit purchases in my state too. It was in store only, always taxed online. That changed a year or two ago, but I always got taxed on gift cards
This aggressive price-cutting is quite new to my store; it seems to be accelerated since we had a full store remodel from Jun-Aug this year. Most of the time my store didn't get clearance to the same degree as what people post here. We got the $2 clearance titles months after others last year

But seriously, these games were moved to the bottom row a few weeks ago but never priced, so I suspected they were moved from the general population for a reason
They also had Jedi Survivor PS4 for $10 newly added to the other PS games most people have...
