The x-box can only output up to 1080i via VGA or component. The only way for your x-box to output to 1080p is via HDMI. Sadly I know this first hand as I am sitting here with a 1080p TV and an x-box with no HDMI output :(

You're a little confusing, so I'm not sure exactly what you're asking... But I'm going to assume that you want to use the HDMI output on your xbox to a tv that only has dvi input (aside from component, etc.). The hdmi to dvi cable would work if you wanted no sound. You're really better off...
