The pre-4 iPhones are 320x480; the iPhone4 is 640x960; the iPad is 1024x768. However, the iPhone app (presumably) works on both iPhone4 and previous iPhones, thus it needs to support the lower resolution. They have added the higher resolution, which means they now have twice as many image files.
