You could always take apart the controller, and give it a good cleaning. :) I don't think it's too far-fetched, considering we're on CAG. It looks like the screws are like a Torx screwdriver with a column in the middle. I googled it, it's like 2 bucks on Amazon, plus S&H. I'd post the link...
