I have an Aquos LC-37D43U, and have the same problem. It's not optical audio that kills it for me, it's enabling DD 5.1 and/or DTS. 2ch mode works fine, games don't flicker at all. But as soon as I enable DD/DTS, and start a game, the TV blinks / flickers as though it can't handshake properly...
