Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Well, I had my PS5 slim all ready to go for tradein but now that Microsoft is raising their prices, surely Sony is to follow. Feels like it’s worth holding onto a little longer now.

I was literally at the only GameStop left in my area last night a couple hours before close with the PS5 ready to trade in but the sole employee working told me he wasn’t “authorized” to do console trades. Sounded like BS but what can you do? Now there’s a chance that guy scored me some extra trade credit.

This reeks of insider trading.

I was wonder why the f- the Xbox TIV was spiking so high, also relative to the PlayStation which did not see a similar bump.

The only explanation is that GameStop knew of these hikes from Microsoft coming on May 1st, and saw to capitalize on it.

Because it certainly wasn't from some crazy increase in demand for Xbox consoles. Thanks GameStop, you just revealed your hand.

I thought the same thing. Seems really scummy, but not surprising for GS.

I didn't read that comment section specifically, but the amount of fanboys blaming Sony and Nintendo is hysterical
You're missing out...one said that they just spent $2,000 on a PC and are all set and glad they didn't get an X

Help that make sense 🙃

Although with the prices going up it will be harder to justify getting all of the big 3's newest consoles (not a PC gamer, other than Steam Deck, so excluding that market).

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Steam Deck goes up in price as well.

Ah yes, the ol' "just buy a $2500 PC to play your console games on". I feel like people who say that are the ones who don't even know the most basic things about PC gaming. They're the ones who buy a garbage prebuilt and use default settings.

Happy with the $455 I got for Series X.

Still not sure how used prices will hold up, will prices go up by $100?
I can see an initial price hike and then the used market will correct itself.(hopefully)

Xbox has been dead in the water for the past 2 years at any price. This price increase just gives Microsoft an "out" if they decide they want to pull the plug on hardware.
it does seem like its this. I think Microsoft is going to get out of the console (games possibly?) business.

This price point is so nonsensical - and 5 years into the console lifecycle. Its all just so so weird.

What's funny is people are panic buying when Microsoft hasn't even had new stock in months at some retailers, including Gamestop (hence why they had the trade in bonus last month).

Stores were likely going to do another fire sale (as we've seen the last few Black Fridays) or just outright clearance these out. That'll happen more when the price goes up and even less people are buying. Though for now, stores are happy to get rid of stock that has sat on shelves.

Still happy with the $455 I got for my Series X. There's about to be piles of these systems sitting on shelves at $600 new, so I don't see GameStop ever giving more than the $455

Now it's just a matter of time until Sony does the same thing. But man, imagine increasing the price of your five-year-old console and its games/accessories. Glad I don't play too many new games anymore

Inexcusable. It makes absolutely no sense to upcharge what is already in-store especially when said products have already crossed oceans and landed domestically. "Tariffs" on digital content is also complete BS, so the NSW2 and NSW2 games with absent physical manufacturing components are scams.
Bro put tariffs in quotation marks like they're fake.

on digital items, tariffs are fake
The price increase on digital items are used to offset the cost of the physical items. If you passed on the cost of tariffs completely to physical items, they’d go even higher. The problem is that Microsoft doesn’t really sell direct. Every retailer also needs to make their margin and most of the margin is on accessories.

You when you're "unknowingly" claiming "confusion" of said "folks."
Stop using all quotation marks all willy-nilly. It's about as weird as voting against your video game interests and then coming to a message board and being shocked because you don't grasp why there's a price increase as you made beyond clear with your post.

First of all, welcome to the Internet.

Second, I'm not "shocked" about anything except maybe being mildly bewildered about your gaslighting.

Thirdly, I have a back catalog spanning two decades; unfortunately, the future of gaming has been plateauing off, the current industry does not care about MY/[Y]OUR "video game interests" (save for the likes of Baldur's Gate 3, Oblivion Remastered, Expedition 33, etc.), so tbqh Idrgad except for cheapassgamer deals and my wallet which I will choose to close at my behest as I see fit whether you like it or not tariff or not.

Not reading all that.

Didn't Microsoft recently announce they were gonna be developing or already are working on a handheld system ?

Rumors about that kind of thing pop up every so often but who knows. Given that the handheld market is barren console wise and phones filled the void. I dunno if any of them will ever return to the handheld market

I remember, what it last year or just prior, the $500 xbox X box xbox 2tb, whichever the best one was, was on fire sale for around half off?

The 1 TB Xbox Series X was discounted to $350 for a week or so back in holiday 2023.
