Want: Functional older custom built PC <$100. Have: Paypal

I have a 75 year old gentleman who wants to learn about computers. He has a Dell, but wants to be able to tinker around and build a PC from scratch. I’d like to teach him. Looking for any old computer that I can completely take apart and put back together and have it work, get online, etc. No...

Opinions on buying gold Taco Bell PS4 as investment/long term flip?

The total quantity of these: https://www.playstation.com/en-us/campaigns/2015/taco-bell-limited-edition-gold-ps4-bundle/ is just over 6000 units, and I've noticed the price on some ebay auctions (not buy it now) is between $500-600..which doesn't seem like too much of a premium considering the...

Why don't we make a CAG team for Folding@Home?

Yup people still do it. Unfortunately the PS3 Folding app was discontinued. While it was very powerful back in 2007, it can't compete with PCs now. They developers have been updating and optimizing Folding@Home for PC use, so right now even a midrange $100 video card will do 10-20x what the...

Why don't we make a CAG team for Folding@Home?

I'm sure a lot of people have decent gaming PC's, and I noticed a lot of other tech and gaming-related sites have official teams that work together using the spare processing power of their computers for Folding@Home.  For those who don't know, this is basically a distributed computing project...

Judgement Day: Intelligent Design on Trial

Just thought I'd share this awesome documentary. It's about the "controversy" surrounding evolution and the Dover trial a few years ago where both sides battled it out in court. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2xyrel-2vI And here is a lecture by one of the primary witnesses of the trial...

Fold! Fold! Fold! Use that PC to cure disease. :)

Want to volunteer? ;) I'd donate a few bucks for a folding project if there were some guarantee that it would be used for that purpose.

Fold! Fold! Fold! Use that PC to cure disease. :)

It's really not a fair comparison for most folks who leave their PC's on 24/7 anyway. The difference between a PC at idle and a PC at full load is closer to 50-100 watts. Do the calculations that way and the program actually ends up costing $60-140-ish annually. Of course this is more than...

Fold! Fold! Fold! Use that PC to cure disease. :)

I just discovered Folding@Home and really love the idea of helping cure diseases with spare processing power. I've already built one machine for folding 24/7 and am working on number two. For those unfamiliar with what folding is, you can read about it here: http://folding.stanford.edu/ I...

Curing diseases (Folding@Home) on PS3 vs PC?

I read that the latest updates to the PS3 firmware + Folding program increased performance to around 1100-1200ppd. That's not too bad. I just grabbed a PS3 with a broken blu ray drive for $85 shipped on Ebay. That's roughly 1/3 what it would cost me to build a cheap dual core system to fold...

Curing diseases (Folding@Home) on PS3 vs PC?

Just curious, has anyone calculated the stats to find out what type of PC the PS3 is comparable to when it comes to Folding@Home? I just discovered this program a few months ago and it feels great to be a part of potentially curing deadly diseases. I'm considering building a cheap i3 system...
