For big battles, Sins of a Solar Empire is also a good choice. Granted, its a bit of a combo of RTS and 4X, but its still pretty good. Plus, Entrenchment microexpansion coming out in about a month.

If you don't mind fairly long RTS games, Sins of a Solar Empire is good. Also, I would recommend Warcraft 3 and World in Conflict.

Well, lets see. For good fpses, you would want Call of Duty 4, Team Fortress 2, and possibly Battlefield 2 or 2142, depending on your preference. For RTSes, you can't go wrong with either Warcraft 3 with the expansion or Company of Heroes with the expansion.

I second the time-consuming comment about Sins of a Solar Empire. I had a game against cpus in a previous version that went to twenty hours. Granted, I was playing on a ten-player map just for the heck of it... Anyway, other good games are Civilization IV and Warcraft 3 with the expansion.
