My to-do list is a mile long - I recently bought my first Super Nintendo (I had all Sega stuff back in the day). I am starting off with Super Metroid and taking it from there :)
I actually bought the Hyperkin Retron 3 - SNES, Genesis, and NES all in one. It does s-video out and the emulation...
I saw this one mentioned in an instructable - I haven't verified all of the measurements yet myself, but the people there usually are pretty good about that sort of thing (it was in the one about building the "portable" NES)...
That video is awesome! Only, why all the rampant Game Genie killing? I am fairly certain that you can find a 72 pin edge card connector from Digikey - probably for much cheaper. Then you wouldn't have that tedious desoldering job either.

This site has some great guides and tells you where to get cases. Should be everything you need to get started. Good Luck!
The Analog stick on the N64 controller tends to get extremely loose and eventually will not spring back to center. I don't think that is an issue that can be avoided. Fortunately there are still replacement parts readily available and several guides online showing how to fix it. If you can't...
For the master system - My favorite controllers have a place to screw in a thumb stick in the dpad. I think that those are the older version of the master system controller. I definitely prefer those over the ones without that option.
In general when looking at controllers - Make sure that...
Today I picked up a few games: Ghosts N Goblins (NES), Star Wars: The empire strikes back (Atari 2600), Neo Contra (PS2), and Godzilla Destroy All Monsters (gamecube)... Perfect way to make sure my Air Conditioning doesn't go to waste!
In honor of Atari's recent 40th birthday (founded in June 1972)- I took apart my Atari 2600 (Darth Vader model) and scrubbed 30 years of dust and crud out of every nook and cranny. Since then I have been playing it non-stop. Mostly Space Invaders and Ms. Pacman.
It was the best feature ever when I was a kid and had to keep the noise down, but now that I don't have to worry about it - it is kind of useless. Of course back in the day I was mad that it wasn't on EVERY system :)
Get the Power Base Converter for the sega genesis (especially if you have a model 1 sega genesis). It plays nearly all sega master system cartridges and sega cards. It is a great way to add the master system to your library without another console. There are no extra cords or anything.
If...
I have heard of the cables connecting the controller ports to the mainboard going bad (inside the console). I guess that it is not a difficult fix if you are comfortable taking the thing apart. But more often it is the controllers going bad - It is not outside the realm of possibility that all...
There are a lot of people that are desperate to unload CRT TVs because they upgraded to HDTV. Keep an eye on Craig's List and you will find a decent one for free sooner or later.
One thing to be aware of is that Light Gun games will not work on HDTVs - that was a big reason I decided to make...
Wow - Thanks for the tips! I have a Canon Cheapest-model-they-make printer. I thought that my covers were coming out looking washed out because of the printer. I tried printing from Irfan View and tweaking some of the settings in the printer driver. It made a world of difference. I never...
Do the Bar codes mean anything to you, or are they there for looks?
At one time I thought that it would be cool to have a database of my games with a bar code on each piece of media... so I could scan games and have the digital manual and cover art brought up automagically. I doubt that I...
