Ah, well whenever I couldn't find any investigations I would just climb the nearest synchronization points and something would pop up eventually. Sometimes I would have to go through 5 points until I could get any investigations to pop up.

Sounds like you're at the end of the game. Are you in the lab? Use triangle. And I agree with you on that Shini. It would have been much more of an "Oh wow!" moment if it were shifted more towards the end.
