I was going to save this for my 1000th post, but I decided that it may be useful to some people so I'll post it now.

A while back when I really started trying to round out my classic game collection I basically lived on ebgames.com waiting for the games I wanted to come back into stock. Being a programmer, I decided that this was a waste of time and so I spent 20 minutes writing something to help me out. Basically I made a list of games I wanted, and an easy way to see which games from the list are currently in-stock on ebgames.com.

This was written very quickly and is not polished at all, but it works. If you know of games that should be added to the watch list, PM me here and let me know. This is all explained on the (small) webpage. Any misc questions can be asked here through PM.

So if you guys want to try it out, click on the link below:

Take it easy guys.

Wow, I actually really like this. Thank you very much. I might also add it is probably 56k beware, or else everyone is trying to use it at once and its causing it to slow down. But yeah, Thanks!

That's really cool, but what if I'm looking for a game specifically, all I need to do is PM you and you will add it? Is there a way to set it up that would allow people to make their own lists or add a game to the list?

If you PM me I will add it. I just did this as a simple little thing and don't have the time to make multiple lists, customization, etc (you know, actually make it good :D ) so this will have to do - at least for a while.

This is fucking awesome dood, though you kind of put dafoomie out of a job . And I'll see where I can put this, I'm thinking post your own deal.

No it will work WITH dafoomie.. Whenever he finds a cool game in stock, I'll add it to the list.
holy shaq-fuing awesome!!

nerds...is there anything they cant do?

:notworth:
Who are you calling a nerd?

I think the correct term is geek.

Good job OP. It may be best to just have people post what they want added in this thread to keep duplicate PMs down for you.

Yeah that might be best. Either way is ok though. You guys can either post here or send a PM. Just make sure you include the game title, system, and a link.

Resident Evil 3 and Musha added. I really need the URLs for the others, unfortunately..

If anyone comes up with URLs for any of those, let me know.
wow u must b a genius, how did u do this? I'm programming illiterate, so wow, I'm stunned.. Magic powers or something.
Definitely a combination of being a genius and magic powers.
How does one go about getting a link for a game if it's not in stock...?
That's tough. I wrote another quick program (of course) to do it, but it takes forever since there are so many games...

Scratch this post..

There anyway I could talk you into posting your source? This is something I'm really interested in looking at...

That's really cool man, thanks a bunch. But do you think you could add these two PS2 games to the list?
Gitaroo Man
Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance
There anyway I could talk you into posting your source? This is something I'm really interested in looking at...
lol yeah right.

It would be awesome if we could somehow get an easy to use program that we could host ourselves and input our own URLs to track the games we want.

Is there anyway we could get something like that? I know that may be asking a lot, but I just had to put it out there.

And thanks a lot of this program, man. It's awesome.

EB Games uploads their product catalog to my server each morning.
Perhaps I can build this feature into the CAG-O-Matic.

Do you know what time(s) EBgames.com gets updated?
Perhaps I can get them to send me an updated catalog at various times throughout the day.

Also, I think this should be moved to Deal Discussion, while we are discussing this.

rockhero... that is sooo sweet!

awesome job man! now we just need to compile lists of games for all systems to be added!

Sure, PM me your e-mail address.

Why would you "lol yeah right" that? I'll give it out to whoever wants it - I live to give.

They update at about 7-7:30 AM on most mornings.

All of these features could be added, I just don't have the time to work on it. When I graduate in May I might sit down and do it.
What'd you write this in?

More importantly, where are you pulling the prices from off EBGames.com?
It's written in perl. I get the prices right from the webpages for each game.

What is that, Perl? Awesome. I wouldn't mind having a look at the code, if you didn't mind.

Edit: And my post shows up right underneath the one where he says "Perl"... go figure.

It looks like I get their data feed much earlier in the morning.
I can ask them to send it to me at 7:30 and then work some kind of watchlist thing into CAG-O-Matic.

One of my goals this year is to improve the CAG-O-Matic in as many ways as possible. I am going to be adding PriceGrabber to the site to provide price search functions, especially for other (non-gaming) products, so I can focus on making the CAG-O-Matic all it can be for tracking video game prices.
