Wow.

For some reason, even though I knew a lot of people wanted to just dump the ps3 on eBay for a profit, I didn't think it would turn out the way it has so far.

I'm sure more than a few people are going to die or get seriously injured over this.

You have people being denied their preorders, buyers that only want to make money, riots over limited quantities, people against reselling on eBay. It sure won't make Sony look any better..

Nintendo is sure to look a million times better than Sony right now. There hasn't been any chaos so far, and it doesn't look like it will be hard to find a Wii on launch day. You don't hear a lot of talk about reselling a Wii, more like everybody wants one for what it really is: currenc-- I mean a videogame system.

If Sony has another limited launch next month, it would probably be worse unless retailers make much better decisions about selling the PS3.

Sony did it on purpose. I promise you that they "overestimated" their shipments on purpose. There's a reason that gamestop/eb have adverts for ps3 all over their stores and there's a reason that even though every ps3 will be sold out there are still 100 ps3 ads on tv every day. They want you to want to kill for it. If they can make it the thing to have then you HAVE to have it. I saw this a mile away.

I got mine for free (sold someone an extra spot in line for $650), so it was more like a success from my point-of-view. :)

I'm thinking of rolling up to my wal-mart in the next few hours (no midnight release) and offering someone $100-200 for there spot.

Well yeah, that's better. If I were first in line, I'd most likely let someone pay to cut behind me. Just pray that there are a lot of assholes where you're going. :p

I don't know why people think this is out of the ordinary. Sony's are the ones to create the high demand, low supply nonsense from the release of the PS2. Xbox just followed the trend with the Xbox 360.

Think about it, I have every local news station here covering the lines for the PS3, and talking about it. You can't get any better free promotion than that. I was telling my gf, you know the Wii isn't going to get that same attention.

What I never thought of now is if you can remember years ago South Park did that one episode where he inherited that money and bought the amusement park and made it so only a few people would be let in, thats exactly what all these companies try to do to push more product. It's like I said in another post, if Sony knew they wouldn't have enough units they should have just delayed the launch until they had a better supply.

Sure but it's not making people want there product. Most people are buying to sell to the few that actually want it. Seriously who needs a PS3 when you have a 360?

I would think that if a bunch of people waited however long in line and some idiot tried to accept money to let someone cut, the other people in line would put a stop to that real quick like.
well maybe $200 to the guy in front of the line to give me cuts.
Have fun getting the shit kicked out of you.

I guess we were lucky at my BB, well except for the 30 people who were told they would get one who didn't and still waited over a day

For the Blu Ray player of course! I'm with you, the only game that I'm looking forward to on the PS3 is MGS 4, and I don't feel like paying $600+ to be a glorified beta tester.

My excitement over the PS3 died up when I sw the launch titles, and when the 360 got the HD-dvd player (which yes sony fanboys makes the system the same cost as a 60 gb PS3, but it is still optional)... I was going to wait in line too for ebay purposes, but my place (sam's) was already overbooked at 4 yesterday afternoon on a supply they werent certain about yet... no time wasted

As for places that had line cutters, the sellin stores would have been smart to periodically photograph or tape the campers so the wrong people didnt get the systems

why pay 600 bucks for a system that wont have any good games till 2007 or 2008. by that time the system will be 400 or less LOL

i take my ps 2 anyday

Wow. Either the reporters are slanted, or gamers are just stupid assholes (both, not either/or).

A sample:

"This is the best game ever. It's so worth the wait," the 25-year-old graphics designer said. "Some people may call me crazy, but I really love to play."

"For the work we had to do to get all the money to get the stupid system, I'm going to search every single store in town," she said. "I don't care, I'm going to get it."

"Katrina could come through here and I wouldn't switch," said Marco Cajas, 20, of Baltimore. "I spent the night on the cold street."

Yow. A complete lack of social tact when talking to reporters. No longer just the domain of people on "Cops." If I had heard someone saying senseless shit like "Katrina wouldn't stop me," I'd lose my place in line gladly to haul off and crack them in the skull.

Oh yeah talking about getting linched. You will be killed. 4 people left line at best buy to go to the bathroom or whatever. Other people got pissed because they said they were gone for 4 hours. I don't know how that ended. I was at the back of the line and was told I would not get a PS3. So the 4 people didn't make a difference either way for me.

Went to my local BB, they said they had 33 PS3 units. Got in line, waited about 20 minutes and I happen to notice a Bestbuy employee at the front and asked him if he gave out tickets.

Apparently they gave out tickets (37 tickets) 2 days ago. That made me sad =(

This is free Ads for Sony. I'm sure Sony is happy as can be, they get free ads and all the violence make their new system seem cooler than it really is.

Yes free ads but we're really seeing the cruelty of Sony's business tactics. Anyone read about how they waved around empty ps3 boxes in San Fran to boost morale. It's all about the press....
Have fun getting the shit kicked out of you.
No kidding. I saw these dudes at the Best Buy that were all wearing camo suits, they looked like psychos. That 100 to cuts shit would not be tolerated.

It was funny seeing them in the rain yesterday. One guy was in a chair with an umbrella, but the rain was flying from all directions so he was getting soaked.

Oh well, I might get one in about a year when more games are out and they have the bugs and kinks worked out of them(All Sony launch stuff breaks easy.).

And to the people saying that Sony wants people to kill for PS3. They are running ads so people will buy them in the future. Why not just have PS3 so people can buy them now?
wonder if jack thompson will have anything to say about this.
It'd be hysterical if he condemmed this violence as proof of how lowly gamers are when, in fact, 90% of these people are hopeful resellers that probably don't even know what it does, they just heard it'd be rare.

i waited 38 hours for my shit, got the 60gb, people were fighting, and in the city over (oakland go figure) there was a driveby... dont think anyone dies though...

i don't understand why people are so f u c k i n g stupid and are fighting over a goddamn game system...or paying 1200+ dollars on ebay for it. it's idiotic. nintendo is way smarter and actually shipping a shit ton of systems...it makes way too much sense I think to actually have enough product in the stores. too much is way better than not enough on day one.

T. Foolery

No they heard the works "ten thousand dollars" and ran to the store.

Exactly. It's gonna be just like how the 360 dropped in price after only a year and there's even more price cuts on the way soon.

Oh wait...

that reports a hodge podge of two other articles and slanted a bit to make gamers look like retards...not that this launch in generals helping that image mind you(even if most are scalping for ebay). Honestly its a badly writen article and shows that they wanted in on the "me to" of this whole fiasco without doing their own work.

I was at Best Buy and the 19th person sold their spot for $600 cash. Then the guy who purchased the spot paid a friend/acquintance $100 to sit in line for him. Are group of 23= was very civilized, organized and looked out for one another. Even though Best Buy does not honor customer generated lists they took ours because of how well mannered we were. To prove this let me share a story. About 7 PM Thursday evening some idiot tried to play the ol' Veteran card; I'm back from Iraq can I get a PS3 first... boo hoo hoo. Being a veteran myself I was disgusted. Well the guy was trying to find any loop hole possible to get in line. First he kept on looking at our binder for our list in order to take it, which he couldn't find because it was in store. He then went into Best Buy and made a bomb threat saying, "I'll blow this place up if I don't get a PS3". Eventually law enforcement showed up escorted him to his vehicle and placed a life ban on him for all the stores in the immediate plaza; Best Buy, Lifeway Christian, and Target. I had a great time, met some good people, and in some way wished it hadn't ended. We also had good comms and relationships with the "Target" tribe and the "CC" tribe:p

lol, that is some funny shit!

It seriously is a disaster. Every time I try to look up awesome game deals or good deals on electronics...I see PS3 sales all over the place. I know people are trying to profit but, seriously....if everyone who bought one sells it...I don't think it'll sell. Sure, you might get lucky and find a buyer but what about the rest. You ruined craigslist. Now I have to go through pages upon pages just to find something that isn't PS3. Thanks a lot you greedy bastards.

Sony and all others should have just built up a bigger stock of the systems and then had a larger number of launch systems. It would have had the same demand but with less of the hassle and ebays.

Funny. Since I got denied my ps3 preorder from gamestop two days ago, I've spend almost $300 on a few things I've been meaning to buy. Later I might add $50 more to that if I buy Guitar Hero 2 today.

I just had to say that's one of my favorite episodes. At first he didn't let anyone in but had to let people in because of the repair and security costs.

The media is just eating this up. Sony is going to ride this all the way to the bank. Makes you wonder if this was planned or Sony is Forrest Gump type stupid.

I hate how the media is eating it up, thats why there is so much chaos, and people getting hurt.

"PS3 GOES FOR $9,000." It's like... check to see if the bidders are legit, moron.

I think you may be right about Sony doing this on purpose, BUT...if no one is buying the games, Sony is losing money.

What really cracks me up and baffles me at the same time is the ignorance of some of the people buying this thing. I saw one guy on Gamespot in line who had been there for nearly 3 days, and when asked what games he would be buying tonight, he named something that isn't out yet along with "Call of Resistance." Another guy didn't know what Blu-Ray was. This was repeated more times than I would have expected for such "dedicated fans."

Goes to show two things: Playstation's fanbase stretches far, far beyond the hardcore gamer (duh) and Playstation fanbase has a lot of clueless putzes (DUH).
