I scratched off my 1600 point card, and accidently took the actual code off with it! Is there anything I can do to replace or recover my points?
Thanks for the help!
Start guessing. I managed to get one partially ruined to work since I could read all but like 2 of the characters. Of course, if half of is it is missing, well...next time just light a $20 bill on fire, it'll be more entertaining.
That said, I loved "Girls Ain't Nothin' But Trouble" and "Brand New Funk"....can you please record more songs like that?
Don't bother with Microsoft support. I even went through the trouble of faxing a copy of a card and they didn't respond. There's a pretty good chance you can do an exchange at whereever you purchased it if you still have a receipt.
Happened to me with a WoW card =[ dont think you could do much. it's already opened, if you try to return with receipt they'll probably say u entered the code and tried to get a freebie by scratching it off and pretending you accidently did it.
Go back to the store and tell them you scratched it off with a coin, and that you need a new one. They should be OK with this as long as you don't do it repeatedly. I returned mine to Best Buy when I did this once, and they were cool about it. Just scratch it off with your fingernail next time.
I did this once with a coin and immediately ran back to Kmart and switched it out (receipt in hand). No problem whatsoever since it had happened before to the cashier that was helping me, but you've got to get lucky sometimes as I've heard people being denied so YMMV.
By the way, what's the best way to scratch to get the code?
doubt you can do anything, but a friend of mine did this with his guild wars. Scratched the code off on accident, mailed the who box and everything to them, and they shipped him a new one. Took like a month for the whole thing to go through, but like i said i doubt MS would do that.
the best way is probably scratching it with ur fingernails lightly. slow and steady =D if your eager and scratch hard and fast then you'll scratch off the code.
I personally use a pencil eraser, just rub gently, and you should have no problems. I have read you can use goo gone too. Anyways, just go and explain what happened to where you purchased it(assuming you didn't use something like a knife, because that would be retarded) and hope you can get an exchange. And I think MS point cards are YMMV on how good the ink is, after I entered my code on one card, I TRIED to rub the code off, scratch it off, anything, and the code wouldn't come off.
I called microsoft about this same situation a few months ago and they just told me to go back to the store with my receipt and I would get a new card.
Shrike, never post in my thread again...check my feedback for the PERFECT transaction involving Microsoft Points you are soooo worried about. I ruined my own PERSONAL card....don't stick your nose where you don't belong.

Nah, that's not as good as DomLando. In one thread he was posting a tradelist for an hd-dvd that he claimed was never used with a bunch of hd-dvds that were opened but never played and then in another thread he was posting how much the quality of the hd-dvd add-on sucked and he never cared for the one he had...
