Sheesh talk about some bad luck.

Yesterday coming home from work someone rear-ended my parents 2nd car, a Ford Taurus which I had borrowed while mine was in the shop getting a new water pump. The damage was very mild, just a few marks on the bumper, no dents or breaks and the car is already old so we just let it go.

To add insult to injury today though I'm visiting my parents house for the weekend, their Taurus is in the driveway. My newly fixed car is parked on one side of their driveway and their silver Century is parked on the other side. I'm sitting upstairs in my old room when I hear 2 loud bangs but no glass breaking or anything. So I ignore it figuring it was a truck passing by. Then I hear screaming for me to get downstairs.

Turns out some woman sideswiped my parents silver Century (which was in immaculate condition, barely used), totally smashing in the driver's side door and raking the entire left side of the car. She then continued across the driveway and rammed my car head on, totaling it and knocking it back 20 feet (luckily no one was parked behind me). All this in a 25mph zone.

My car is a lost cause as the damage is definitely more than it's value. The body all over the front is damaged, the radiator is toast for sure, as is the steering wheel spins forever so that's gone too.

My parents car is probably gone too since a mechanic told us exactly where she hit it is pretty much where the frame is, and if that is bent the car is a goner.

Luckily no one was hurt and she has insurance. Our cars were parked and empty and the woman driving someone was fine but sheesh.

Ouch. Good to hear no one was hurt and you were able to catch her.

Next speculated thread: "The bitch is blaming us and won't pay up!"

I have 58 high-quality digital pictures of the scene. I'm not taking any chances.

She didn't make it into the driveway. Only one car fits in there and my parents Taurus was in there so it was safe. But my car and the other car were on the street parked in regular spaces on either side of the driveway and they took all the damage. The way my car was knocked backwards she's lucky no one was parked behind me. As it was, her car was completely demolished. If there was any resistance my car probably would have gone through hers like tissue paper.

Hopefully that works. Just did a quick search for someplace to upload for free. I only put up 5 pics but they pretty much tell the story, though you can't see all of the damage in them, especially on my car where most of it is internal due to the head on hit.

Pic 1 is my parents car. Can't really see the scrapes down the entire side but can see what happened to the door. In the more zoomed in pics all the joints and stuff are hanging out and bent all out of shape. Hoping the frame isn't bent too but doesn't look good...

Pic 2 is her car meeting mine.

Pic 3 is after they towed her away. It's there to show how far my car was knocked back. It was parked up to the edge of the driveway. I'm the guy in shorts btw. Was hanging around the house and had to throw some sneakers on real quick when this happened.

Pic 4 is her car on the towtruck.

Link 2 (oops ended up in 2 separate spots) Pic 5 is just another angle of the fun.
"Luckily she had insurance"?

Is in not required up in NJ?
It's required in most (all?) states, but that doesn't mean that everyone carries it.

True, but if its required, you'd expect them to have it.

WOW!!!

atleast everyone is alright..but man...i can the surcharges fly in her case....4 cars her insurance has to cover under one policy....looks like she aint gonna eat for awhile.
True, but if its required, you'd expect them to have it.
Book smarts don't serve you well everywhere.
True, but if its required, you'd expect them to have it.
You would hope so, but there's always the number of cases where they don't. I believe the two drunken teens who took their car through my parent's apartment about 30 years ago was one of the good ones. Right through the living room, ruined two apartments in all, no insurance whatsoever, drunk out of their damned minds.

It was also fun when someone sideswiped my car a few months ago. There's nothing you want to wake up to more than "CRRSCRNCH" in the morning. The guy stopped to look at the damage and then ran off before I could get outside and start with the requisite "WHAT THE HELL?!!" conversation. Lack of insurance is always fun in that situation because then you hear the song-and-dance of "sure, I'll pay, just get it repaired!" followed by the 99.9% likely "oh, that's way too much. I know a guy who would have done that $7K repair for just $150. I'll give you that much (over the course of four months) and that's all."

It really makes you want to slap a few people around, it does!

Yeah there are an awful lot of people in NJ that don't have insurance despite the law so that was a big worry. Hell anytime I have to talk to a car insurance company in NJ I worry. We have possibly the worst car insurance laws for the consumer around.

I see no need to sue anybody assuming her insurance pays up and everything since no one was in the car. I will end up missing a day of work Monday to deal with insurance people but I have the leave time so I'm not losing a dime on it. As for the guy that bumped me in the rear the day before, I'm not hurt and I have been on the receiving end of people faking injuries in minor accidents so I am not looking to sue anyone over that either.

lol...do you have any idea how many people drive without insurance, license or even a valid registration? way too many unfortunately

Well, the first video you just posted was stupid; nothing happened and the guys laughing like morons were too loud.

The second video you posted has a bad link.
You're an idiot... Look at the size of the space and look at the size of the car.

Second vid is fixed...
I look at the size of the space. I look at the size of the small car. This doesn't make the video any less stupid. I'm not getting why you think this is deserving of anything more than a minor lol. And again, the obnoxious laughter made it hard to sit through the video. And it was a really short video.

The second video was pretty funny though.

Jesus do they wax that road or do people just have no fucking clue?

It's sad that a lot of car accidents (perhaps most) are due to ridiculous levels of stupid rather than uncontrollable environmental conditions.

hey I know what you are going through OP. In less than 5 months my car was in two accidents that were not my fault. First one, was some college frat boy who rear ended my Acura TSX while I was stopped at a stop light on a perfect sunny day. Turns out he was busy trying to answer his cell phone. Funny part was that he all upset at the mistake he made and kept referring to himself in the third person... A few months later a really cute girl side swipes my car trying to make a left hand turn causing 3K of damage to my car doors. I was just so surpise how pretty she was that I wasn't angry at all. I just took a some pictures of the accident on my camera and exchanged insurance and emails. I tried to pull off getting a date with her but it was a no go...

Yep. I tubed a few of these accidents, giving me results of major collisions as consequences because of the weather; floods, icy roads, ect.

I saw this one a while back and thought it was pretty amusing.

I'm sure these people blamed the weather, but why the fuck would someone drive in this?

Wow. That's a pretty funny video. At first, that is. Towards the middle it becomes almost majestic. I've never seen cars slide horizontally across ice like that in real life. It looks like something from a kart racing video game.

Also, the people in the video might have been stupid enough to leave home when the weather was that bad, but most of them probably were just trying to pass through the area, or left home before things got that bad.

insurance nightmare anyone?

really...if one car played bumper cars..why the hell would others want to play too..shit i wish i had a shitty car...if mine got hit and totalled...new car baby.

Someone on YouTube mentioned that the road had a downhill slope, so that just made things worse.

That actaully happened to me with my last car (89 Dodge Shadow). A woman turned directly in front of me and I hit her - I had right-of-way so she was 100% at fault. Her insurance company gave me $2100 for my car and I had a dealer offer me $300 for it a year before. \\:D/

The guy at the beginning was an idiot, why would you continue to gun it when you obviously arent going to do anything except make things worse.

I lol when I read the comment too. People close by were staring at me:oops:
