2 questions about trading on CAG

I'm not sure if I should put this in this forum or the OT forum.

I've got many rare PS1 games that I've finally accepted I'll never play again. I'll like to sell them on CAG before trying Ebay or Craigslist. Here's my two questions.

Is there a site that lists prices for these? I know some of them are rare and might be worth a lot but I don't know how to find out for sure. For example, I would have thought the non greatest hits Final Fantasy 7 would be worth $20 but it's going for $50+ on Ebay. Are there any sites that list prices or will I have to look on Ebay for all of them?

Should I get a paypal account before listing my games? I want to sell and not trade and I don't know if people would like having to send cash or checks through the mail. Plus there is the danger of it being stolen. I would rather not get paypal (I've heard all the horror stories) but I will if it'll make selling these games easier. At the very least I will remember to link it to my credit card and not my checking account.

eBay is your best bet for trying to calculate what stuff is worth. Just look at closed listing and average it out. I'd would definatley accept paypal if you want to sell on CAG. You will have much better luck finding buyers. Additionally keep in mind that you will generally be required to ship first on bigger transactions.

Yeah, search completed listings on eBay to figure out their street value. For the most part CAGs are going to want to play less than what you'd get on eBay.

PayPal makes selling them a lot easier but you could also take money orders or checks. (Sending cash is frowned on but it is done.) With checks you have to worry about them bouncing. I'd take Paypal before personal checks.

Also if you don't link your PP to a bank account you'll have no way to withdraw the money so you'll have to spend it on something else to use it up. Something to keep in mind.

Read the trading stuff in the FAQ (linked at the top of every forum page) and check out the stickied Trading guide thread in the Trading forum.

For about 30-45 minutes, it seems like we were having database issues getting to the database server.

As we're back, I'm assuming it's fixed. Hopefully permanently.

It might look like you're getting more on eBay, but when you take account into all the fees, etc., you're probably doing just fine here -- and you're helping the community!

But yes, use PayPal.

I actually came here mostly for the same reason, to unload all my older games - I figured getting possible trades (which I've been unsuccessful at, thus far) would be better/more efficient than selling piecemeal on ebay, plus I never trusted how high I can sell things. I did my share of selling, but I didn't care for it so much, everything's going on completely staggered, plus there's the wait time, and the final rush at the end where you camp your own auction and pray someone snipes it so you get more money, etc (is it just me, or do other people get mass anxiety rushes at this point? Can't be good for my heart).

For calculating prices, I get the average on ebay, half.com, and the tradein value at estarland (for imports or other misc stuff) and then undercut it a bit. For other things that don't have a listed going value, I stick on a price that seems decent to me (it's a price I wouldn't mind buying at, at least).

Also, get paypal. It certainly beats waiting on money orders/checks.

i thought this was just me! i get all "amped" when an auction closes both as a buyer and seller. my pulse probably goes up quite a bit and my heart starts pounding. i don't know why, maybe i'm just a nervous person. :)
