Agreed. I think their Fireball model is the most accurately named piece of equipment ever. I can't tell you how many of those I've replaced (in other ppl's pc's ) where the chip had literally exploded on the bottom of the drive.
hmmm...I was considering this but it does seem to have pretty mixed reviews...
anyone know how it compares to the one on sale at BB this week? 160 GB Western Digital
It has rebates, which I don't like, but it would be nice to have a reliable drive...

You're joking right? I trust Maxtor over WD any day of the week. One of their ing drives went bad on me and my work is ed. I had work upon work on that POS and it's gonna cost me thousands of $'s just on the chance I might recover some. I swear to God I wanna choke the people at WD.

I have one word for you, and that word is "backups".
Back on topic: I've had two Maxtors that have died thus far, and currently have three WD drives still in operation: a 120GB, a 200GB, and a 320GB that I just picked up two weeks ago. I guess I like them.
I got a WD and the thing wouldn't work in my PC. Once installed, I could not boot my PC at all. So now I'm either looking at this Maxtor or maybe a Seagate lke my other two HDs
With no rebate this is a very good deal. But yea, this one has mixed reviews but all hard drives have good and bad reviews. I myself have all 3 HDs (seagate, WD, maxtor) and they all had a problem one time or another.

Probably set the jumpers improperly.
