So I'm going into research mode for an upcoming A/V receiver purchase, and would like whatever input you care to throw my way. Anybody have any brand/model preference? Quality review sites that aren't named CNet? Places to find cheap deals? Any advice is much appreciated.

Currently, I've got my eye on

Sony STR-DH800
Onkyo TX-SR607
Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K

Thanks CAGs.

I've got a Denon 3808CI. It has every feature I can ever want in a receiver. I highly recommend Denon if you can afford it. I recommend checking out the avs forums, http://www.avsforum.com/. You'll find people who own various products throughout there.

I bought a Sony STR-DH700 earlier and am very pleased with it. Didn't buy the 800 because I didn't need the receiver to do TrueHD decoding, being as the PS3 does it on-board. Bought mine from Amazon.

Thanks guys. I'm learning a ton from avsforum (as well as further confusing myself), and it's nice to know that people enjoy their Sony. I could actually get a Sony for much cheaper, due to some Sony Rewards points I could apply towards it. There are lots of positive reviews on the Pioneers though, and that new built in USB port for Ipod/Iphone connectivity is a huge plus. Anyone else wanna share their receiver experience?

I opted to keep the vsx-1018 instead of upping for the new 1019. I didn't feel the single hdmi port was that big a deal in my situation. Not to mention, the 1019 shares the same amp/internal circuitry as the lower end 819 & 919. The 1018 includes the same circuitry as the higher end vsx-01txh & vsx-03txh. I have listened to the 1019, and I still think I would opt for the 1018 over it. That's just me though.

i agree with staticx i have a 1018 as well and love it. for the money i dont think anything else is close really.

as far as the built in usb port pioneers have, the ipod interface is archaic to say the least. it does work though.

unless you have a personal preference for one companys sound i dont think you can really go wrong with any of the big brands in that price range.
Im also a huge yamaha fan ( i think you get more features for your money with pioneer) and own one of their avr's as well.

one thing to consider is the brand of your other components. most of the brands have connectivity between their own components. nothing id say would make or break a deal but worth considering.

good luck.
the guys at avs know whats up the info there is staggering.
