2010 World Cup Netherlands vs Spain

Glad to see some CAGs actually watch some of the games. Definitely a fan of good matches of good attacking football.

Very surprised to see Spain lose...but that's what happens when you continuously attack and don't produce.

Glad to see Uruguay win, as they definitely showed more quality than South Africa, who played scared the whole time. I'm not certain that team has enough belief in itself to continue to win, but they surely can defend.
Oh, and guys like Suarez are the disgrace of soccer...yes, it was a foul, but you did not need to roll around like your leg had been amputated.

Never had seen Chile before, but I liked their never ending attack approach...very entertaining.
It kind of sucks to see South Africa struggle. It will really diminish the atmosphere at the games if the locals just tune out once their team is gone.

This also means that they will most likely be the first host nation in history not to make it to the round of 16.
They're already having massive attendance issues as is. Half of the stadiums are empty because the people can't afford tickets. A $10 ticket represents a month's pay for some of those folks. I actually hope that fewer locals don't attend, just so we don't have to hear any more fucking vuvzela's.
Forlan is living up to some of the hype. 2 goals, 1st being bad luck for South Africa, 2nd a little bit of a questionable call on SA's goaltender. A win's a win though :)
Forlan is amazing. He is total class and one of the BEST forwards in the world. Forlan is rotting at Atheltico Madrid. Put him on a top flight team and he will be even more unstoppable. Great Volley outside the 18 with perfect placement under the crossbar. Again, i love watching him play. HIm and Suarez make a dangerous pair up front.

The call on the GK was correct. It was a penalty because he clipped the body first before the ball but Suarez play acted so badly but yet so convincingly that the refs bought it. It shouldnt have resulted in a ejection but the PK call was correct. regardless, you cant be that reckless inside the 18.

Just sucks for RSA that their hopes are pretty much dashed to move in to the next round. They would have made a incredible story.

Spain struggled today. I've never seen El Nino look that rusty or that off his game. Jesus Nava though will be a key for Spain. once they start to execute and score goals..Nava will be the guy that will set them up. Spain should rebound from this.

He failed at Manchester United, he's already in his 30s right or at least close right? I doubt he'll finish his career at a top flight team really.
Don't get me wrong, I've loved watching him play so far, but at club level he doesn't really perform like people expect him to perform.

I'm happy to see South Africa lose simply because of the vuvuzela. Yes that is my first comment in this thread and it's filled with hate. The rest will be positive I promise.

seriously...

Glad to see the French are almost gone. Bunch of boring, selfish, and uninspired players. Will be interesting to see how Uruguay and Mexico play knowing they just need to tie. It always backfires on any team when they play 'not to lose' as oppose 'to win'.

Argentina played well, but the South Korean defense was infantile at times.

Mexico totally deserved that win. I also liked how the guy forced the penalty shot by pushing the ball out the defenders reach and simply allowed him to get his legs.

I still dont get the whole Africa home continent thing. I mean there are probably more Algerians in France or Nigerians in England than South Africa.

At least one France player played well today. Too bad he was playing for Argentina.

Terrible showing by France today. I originally had them to go somewhat far, but not now. They'll need an absolute miracle. Then again, I think their next opponent is South Africa...

France is amazingly uninspired this World Cup. Go Mexico with their solid play. I think Mexico's fans are my favorites with their luchador masks and crazy Aztec getups.

Both teams better play to win, or else they get Argentina in the knockout stage.

You better believe that Mexico is in it to win it! VIVA MEXICO!!!!

If they tie, then who would actually play Argentina? Both teams would be even in points and goals for.

Between the two I think Uruguay would have a better shot at beating Argentina. Not saying they wouxld beat them, just that they'd have a better shot at doing so.

And...Germany loses 1-0. This makes things a bit more interesting. Sunday will be an important day if they want any hope at advancing.

The ESPN analysts are kidding themselves by crediting the win to Serbia in this morning's match. They should credit the victory to yet another guns-blazing Spanish referee who came into this match as the proverbial "man on a mission". Serbia could hardly handle the 10-man team of Germany after Klose got sent off. I'm all about a team out-performing another, but I really feel like the referee decided the game and not Serbia's performance.

Robbie Mustoe nailed it when he said that referees should never make the game about themselves because it completely changes how the game is played and affects every player out there (by making them play overly cautious).

Gung-ho Spaniard 1 - Germany 0

The of the main reasons I love watching soccer over most American sports is how honest the commentators can be. They were ripping the ref in this mornings match for being so card heavy.

American sports you say anything and its bring out your check book.

Lets go USA, can you finally win in a high pressure game.

U.S. is down 2-0 now. They blew too many scoring chances and that handball? call on a ball that hit his face was complete utter bullshit.

Ian Darke: "That was one of the stupidest penalties I've ever seen."

The referees are absolutely atrocious today. Kudos to Slovenia for showing up to play.
Soccer needs instant replay. How is that a handball when it goes off of his fucking cheek? lol.
And how come the first injury a few seconds in wasn't a yellow?
Just being an ass don't worry. Another action packed game that's fun to watch. I'm enjoying the second games much more.

WHOOOO What a strike!!!!!! C'mon boys dont concede!

WHAT THE fuck Referee!!!!! GET SOME EYES!

Bradley was fouled and there was nothing there. This referee sucks!

U.S. got fouled on that go ahead goal. What a fuck over! That ref needs to get his ass fucking fired immediately!!!! 2nd time in the game he fucked over the U.S. What a bullshit horseshit call.

Absolutely bullshit call.

That's my #1 problem with soccer--way too many outcome decided by refs. Low scoring sports give refs a ton of power, they really need instant replay at least on offsides, handballs etc. during goal situations if nothing else.
There was no offside and no fouls at all, WTF was the ref looking at???
The next time an international Soccer referee does a favor for the US will be the first. And I'm not even a US fan saying that.
There was no offside and no fouls at all, WTF was the ref looking at???
SVN was holding onto and fouling the U.S. during that play.
SVN was holding onto and fouling the U.S. during that play the entire game.
Fixed that. The Slovenians were pretty dirty, even for a European soccer team.

US got robbed on that goal. I don't understand what the whistle was for. Any US viewers get something from ESPN. I'm watching in CZ and we don't have any possible explanation as the announcers are baffled too.
I don't think Slovenia was dirty. Both teams had their fair share of crappy plays. Nothing out of the ordinary. They didn't go cleats first ever if I remember correctly.

2 matches in a row where the headlines are all about the referee's lack of judgment and blown calls.

Let's see if they go for the hat trick today with England.

Pathetic.

Hate it when the referees are the main story. A**holes need to remember that it should be about the players and not them. Always trying to make themselves the heroes or the goats. He let the Slovenians and the U.S. play wrestling for 90 minutes, and then calls a phantom foul to make up for it (when it really mattered).

While I hate the Germans, the referee in that game was also a joke (9 yellows, and 1 red). And he missed a last minute penalty for them (instead calling the foul for the Serbians).
