That's a pretty tough size to find a PC monitor for (without breaking the bank and even then options are limited).
Also keep in mind that while the actual physical size increases so too does latency, backlight bleed, color weakness, pixel density (native and usually at high end cost - otherwise it's low end cost... low end result).
In all honesty - have you just considered a 27" HDTV? Your functional resolution would be 1920x1080 over HDMI (easy enough to get a converter or even dongle/adapter for your video card if it does not have HDMI out) and at no loss in quality or resolution.
Added bonus: built in speakers! (and headphone jack)
This, coupled with not having to drive a 2560x1600 monitor would save you a bit on your video card, have the side benefit of making your video card seemingly "perform better" at max resolution, and you'd later be able to use the TV as you know... a TV... when you can afford a high end monitor.
IF you can sport the (usually) $1000~ price tag for a GOOD (read: decent or better) monitor in that physical scale range, then the 3007 from Dell is a great choice, as is anything from NEC that sports RGB accuracy (not wide), and of course Apple.
Speaking of Apple, they have some great deals on refurb (current) monitors and previous gen (now discontinued) 24" monitors. While THOSE may not necessarily seem worth their $800 price tag, they actually are if you're that into color correctness/response time/quality/etc.
Either way you're not going to walk away super stoked with a sub $500 purchase (on a PC monitor in that size). That's my opinion, having done just that a few years ago.
If you're going to spend that money, get an HDTV or, if a PC monitor is really what you want, do it right and save to get something that will last you years instead of cause you some regret later as minor imperfections start to stack up.
