3-D Realms aware that Duke Nukem should be on XBLA

The guys at 3D Realms are well aware how great Duke Nukem 3D was ... in fact, they've been working on a sequel for some time*. Following the release of Doom on XBLA, the prospect was raised on the 3D Realms forums to which a patient staffer replied, "It's already been discussed here. Whether it happens or not I can't say. It's ultimately up to Microsoft as to whether they want it or not." He elaborates here and here.

Indeed, the XBLA approval process (as we know) can be pretty intense. The porting process and integrating Xbox Live is no cakewalk, and that's if the title even passes portfolio muster. With the big dog of early FPSs already on the platform, shouldn't Microsoft be looking elsewhere? Not to mention, we'd rather not have 3D Realms do anything to further delay Duke Nuke Forever. Let's just keep our eyes on the ball ...

*Nominee for understatement of the year award.

Please, God. Please.

If they make it the atomic pack with the expansion, I'm definitely there. Multiplayer over XBLA would be amazing as well, since I never really got to play it multiplayer back in the day.

Someone is going to come in and say "I don't want no more old games on XBLA, blah blah, this sucks, blah blah" but this is going to be awesome, it gives me one more reason not to fuck around with my computer to run a DOS based game.

Yep, I would buy this one....it was fun back in the day. I hope it holds up well. But, it would take a good 6 months I bet before we would see it.

I'd be on this for sure, but I take this as bad news. They've said it's hard to do, they'd have to get someone else to do the port, and that Microsoft might not even want it.

You also have to admit that Duke Nukem's strippers are probably not the type of content Microsoft wants on Arcade. Blood and guts are fine, but strippers revealing their highly pixelated boobs for cash? Eh...

Honestly I'm kind of surprised there's any Mature content on Live Arcade at all.

I noticed certain aspects in Doom were removed as well. Almost all symbols of the swastika were removed the game. I'm not endorsing the idea nor did I like looking at that symbol, but it added an "evil" element to the game. However, I can't understand how the pentagram and the upside-down cross are okay, but the swatskia aren't. By the same reasoning, I doubt we're going to see some "shake it baby" goodness. If we get the game, it'll be a non-stripper version. However, MS needs to get on the ball with Xbox Arcade. Too many developers are complaining about Arcade, and something needs to be done. Arcade is a pretty catchy selling point, so they need to get their act together.

Anxiously awaits GrapeApe (aka VanillaGorilla) to come in here to say this exact statement.

... uh... Swastika?

I think you're mixing DOOM and Wolfenstein together.

I would actually prefer Shadow Warrior. Man I laughed for hours at that game.

I think it's a great idea to bring back old games like these that came out when the internet was not so prevalent, so we can all enjoy them again multi player. Especially if they are co op.

I guess I have no problem with retro titles, as long as they are heavily multiplayer.

Duke Nukem would be a strange fit for XBLA, Doom is too imo. I'd actually like to see the old side scroller Duke Nukems tho.

I don't remember a swastika in Doom (maybe Wolfenstein?) but if that's the case the reason is obvious. Pentagrams and upside-down crosses are symbols that represent something completely made-up like a unicorn, leprechaun or eskimo whereas swastikas are the symbol of a very real evil. ;)

they said on their forum they wouldn't do this, or i might have misinterpreted what they said. They said it would be a hassle basically... but it comes as no surprise after the news of doom making its way to xbla.

Guys, I know this might be hard, but the swatsika really was there. I have almost all versions of doom. If I get the chance, I'll install Doom for the PC and go to the level I remember it in and take a screenshot. I played Wolfenstein and didn't like it, so I know it wasn't Wolfenstein. It was Doom. I'm a Doom junkie.

The swastika in doom was actually a part of one levels map geometry, I remember that. They changed it on the super nintendo version.

Google remembers too

Er...that's not a swastika - it's a manji! YEAH! That's the ticket!

Didn't Zelda suffer from this also?

At any rate, while I couldn't care less if this comes to XBLA, I do have fond memories of this title. I just don't see how I could financially reward people as lazy as those at 3D Realms.

That would kick soo much fucking ass it's not even funny. Bring back Shadow Warrior while your at it 3d Realms!

Lo Wang soap you good!

P.S. I don;t see how hard it would be to allow the 'adult' "Shake it baby" content to be in there. The 360 does have parental controls, they could just have her blow a kiss in the teen version and show her tatas in the 'M' version :D

The third dungeon's map was shaped like a manji. As far as I know that design has never been altered (and it shouldn't be).

Want to watch wang wash wang's wang?

I'd buy it for the multiplayer. And they could just blur out the titties. I mean damn. I really just don't get why realistic and grizzly violence is so acceptable for gaming and a naked titty isn't? Look, little Johnny is gonna fwap regardless.

Back to Duke. If we can't get 3D then Duke Nukem 2 would be pretty cool.

I still want Duke Nukem Forever before I get this.
Its been a LONG time since I heard anything new about it.

And they should also be aware that $10 for a 15 year old game is overpriced. I guess with Doom they had a lot to the package, but it's still a retro title and $5 is the standard (SF II was overpriced also). I would've bought Doom without even thinking if it was $5, but I won't buy any old games for $10. However, the majority will probally buy and enjoy them for $10, so I'll just skip it if it does ever get released.

It's still there in the 360 version.

No buddy, it isn't. In the screenshot the other person provided, they moved the ends of the symbols so it looks different on the 360 version.

If this comes to XBLA, I'd definitely buy it. MS seems to have figured out EXACTLY what gamers want to see.

Edit: Well, it's 3D Realms wanting to bring the game forward, but that still doesn't change the fact that there's tons of worthwhile stuff on the service, and that trend's only going to continue.

Kind of getting tired of the trips down Memory Lane on XBLA. Then again, when Boogie Bunnies is the alternative....
I wonder if it'll take 10+ years to finally release.
I wonder if they will constantly say its coming out with in those 10+ years, guess we got the first batch

I'd take Goldeneye over this. But if they revamped the graphics, and added the Live 8 player deathmatch. That would be cool. I would get that.

But c'mon, we want our Goldeneye!!
