360 controller software question

So i was just wondering, has anyone installed the software that come with the 360 pc controllers? I usually just plug and play and havent seemed to have any issues with games that support it. What does the software on the disc actually do? Does it have applications or something to use it with games that DONT support it? Is it worth installing?

Nothing on it that you need on any modern OS. From Windows XP and up for Windows to Linux 2.6 and up - It's plug and play. Not sure about Mac, tho.
