$500 consoles! Hope not

MarkMark

CAGiversary!
Ive talked to managers i know at a gamecrazy and 2 gamestops and both said that they know both the xbox360 and the Ps3 to be priced at $499+tax
Now granted they could be wrong or this could change but this is how it stands as of a few days ago (according to them) for $499+tax you get the console power cord video etc 1 controller and 2 games (not sure if bundle pack games are preselected or you choose) Now assume for a second this is true. Is anyone here actually going to pay $500 for a console and 2 games? I was hoping not to spend more than $250 on a Revolution but if it retails for $400-$500 this fanboy will stick to his old school roots till a price drop happens.
again i cant say for sure if this is true but i really hope not

A couple of things...

1) EB has a tendency to take "up to" $500 toward any new game console. If these other guys are following suit then they may be working off an inflated number.

2) Game stores do not have insider information. It is a best a guess.

And 3) Launching a console in our post $300 world at an exhoribatant price of $500 would be folly. Would you buy it? I certainly wouldn't.

This just doesn't seem likely to me.

Hey if you pay a price to preorder something and the retail price when it comes out is lower than what you paid do you get the difference back? I have no idea how much id pay but i would pay more than 300 if need be.

I doubt the 360 will retail for more than $360 ($399 tops). They still need to be conscious of how much people are willing to pay (and how low they can sell while still maximizing their sales numbers). I think that both PS3 and Xbox 360 will sell for roughly the same amount...

Right now, with 200+ games still in development for just PS2 and Xbox, I'm not willing to spend retail for either system when they are released.

Thanks to CAG.com, I'm still buying games for the current systems (and will be for months)...
No one knows what they will be priced at.

Would I pay $500? No. $360 for the XBox 360 is my limit.
Selling it for $360 would be a pretty cool gimmick actually.

With the PS3, you're getting a first gen Blu Ray player.
Those will likely cost around $500 alone.

I think $300 should be the limit on console hardware.

You forget you have to buy accessories as well.
Games, too.

Anything over $300 would be stupid, unless, like me, you're excited about Blu Ray.
:O

500 for the system and 2 games?
So that would mean the system itself is 400. Which is still too much for me. But i never liked buying any system at launch anyway so i dont mind waiting till a holiday or 2.

I read somwhere that the graphics hardware for the ps3 ALONE cost $1000 as of right now. Will the price depreciate enough within a year to equal a $300 price?

Personally I believe that the next-gen will be no less than $400 - 500. I hope I am wrong cause I ain't paying it.

How many times is this topic going to be discussed? Seriously. Nobody knows what the price will be until it is announced. Why even waste your time to get all worked up about it when not a single person knows the actual prices right now.

I won't pay $500, and I'll be pissed if I'm putting all this money towards a 360, only to have gamestop force me into a Bundle with two pre-chosen games.

I could see the PS3 being $400+, even a good chance at being $500

But not the Xbox360, There is no way the Xbox360 should go past $400.
I'm willing to bet the rumor about the Xbox360 being $360 is true.

The guys at GameStop and EB are rarely ever close to the actual price of an unannounced item. I remeber them saying the DS would be $200 and the games would be $49.
