Today *started the Apple Developers Conference and after the Apple Store came back up the prices of iPods were way down.
Keep in mind, this a sign that the new iPod are getting ready to launch, soon.

Rumors:
Video iPod with touch widescreens and movie downloads/rentals.
Doubling the Nano memory, keeping the same prices, and adding a metal case to stop scratching. All of this well before Christmas.

Solid deal...

I can vouch for the Nano rumor... supposedly will come at next month's Macworld, doubled memory is certainly possible and the new Nano is supposedly going back to the old metallic coating (like the Mini).

The video store deal is also intruiging, and you would think that Apple needs to have the widescreen iPod ready to go, but I've heard of delays and that it might not make it for the holidays. As far as I know, Apple has always had a new iPod ready for the holidays though, so I don't know what to expect.

Thanks OP! Looks like my wife will be getting a 5th gen model after all. How can I not when it's the same price as the 4th gen? ;)
