I suppose this is good, but they're lowering power consumption by removing other chips as well. For me, I wouldn't consider this version due to the lack of BC; I know we're now in the "next gen" or "modern gen" gaming period, but there are a LOT of good PS2 games that shouldn't be ignored.
Then again, for the common consumer who just wants a gaming system and won't go back to play older games this model is good.

SIDE NOTE: He purchased a Japanese Xbox and is hampered by region coded games. Yet Japanese/American/Europa PS3 gamers can play the same games without hacking or tomfoolery.

It hurts to see CAG's confuse an opinion with being baised. I completly agree with you about the PS3 and importing, but that doesnt sooth the 500$+ burn in my wallet for lackluster titles. Cheapy owns a 360 because he enjoys the games, so much that even if it craps out on him he still praises it.

So does spending an additional $300.00 on a Japanese Xbox360 sound like a CheapAss Gamer?

I was actually surprised at this news and I do think it is a good thing. You can't go wrong with a system that sucks 70 watts less (down to 130w from 200w) and emits less heat.
It is a shame about BC though. I have come to expect Sony to provide backwards compatibility. They did set the standard after all. (Ok, Atari did but they sucked at it.) Now I've given up on BC. The PS2 slim is perfect for my BC needs anyway. My belief is if you haven't already purchased a PS2 for BC then you probably weren't going to use BC in the first place.

While this hardware revision and the price drop are certainly appealing, I can't bring myself to spend $400 on a system without a single game that interests me. The PS2 and 360 had the same problem when they first launched but that lasted only 18 months or so. So far, the only two "no-brainer" games on the PS3 horizon are GT5 and MGS4. At least for me they are.

lack of games.. or games that are "exclusive" or games you like... cause there's games on PS3... just because you choose to play them on other consoles or they don't interest doesn't mean that they aren't present on PS3...
People who owns multiple consoles usually have that one basic console that they use for most games... If a game came out for PS3 and 360.. both online, both identical - which system are you going to get it for? [if you own a PS3]. PS3 or 360?
