Roughly two months ago I purchased a 47" LG LM6700 from Newegg for close to $800 after tax and a warranty plan. Since then I've had them send me two different replacements due to terrible light uniformity. All three at this point have had really, really bad flashlighting in the corners, so after a very long and stressful back and forth with Newegg they've given in to my demands of a full refund.
I'm now right back where I started. I absolutely refuse to deal with Newegg again, so something from them is out of the question. It pretty much has to be available at a brick and mortar store at this point or at least through the website of one (we've got Walmart, Kmart, Best Buy, and Target around us).
I'm really not sure what's going to be the best bang for my buck. I favor PQ over anything else feature-wise, though it being a Smart TV would be nice (despite the LG having terrible light uniformity, it was really feature packed; being able throw an MKV onto a USB stick and plug it right into the TV was great).
I'd prefer not to go plasma simply because of the heat they produce. My old TV was a Samsung plasma and that thing was a damn heater. I know they're conflicting things (favoring PQ but not wanting plasma), but the room it'll be going into isn't the largest, so heat is a big factor.
I had my eye on the new Vizio M-Series 50" but there are apparently issues with the smart dimming which raises concerns. It hits the price point and has a pretty large list of features, but the dimming reacting slowly to light and dark scenes seems distracting.
TL;DR
I want something around $800, preferably LED, and my main priority is PQ, though smart features would be nice. I want something in the 50" range. I'm not terribly concerned about 3D.
