A Bunch of Qs for somebody New to Nintendo!

superspiffy

CAGiversary!
Having just replaced my PlayStation 1, I am totally new to the world of Nintendo and as such, have a bunch of Qs...

How can you get Nintendo points the "cheap-ass-way"? And what's the deal with the Nintendo membership that the Wii says I can hook up to my Wii Shop account? And what's the value of getting a Nintendo DS Lite? I have the original gameboy, and i mostly used it to play tetris and pokemon. I bought a gameboy color from a friend but never really used it. Is it really worth getting one now since I have a Wii and they can both connect and talk? Should i get a VC controller or buy a reused Gamecube controller? I hear gamecube controllers can play Gamecube games and everything else. and is the wireless gameboy controller compatible with the Wii? I'm into shooting games, should I buy red steel or COD3? but COD3 can't multiplay! and i hear Red Steal sucks. should i wait then? What game should i buy if i want lots of party/mini games? like wii sports! it was such a hit with family =) Thanks for any help

Glad you used periods there, bud. It's still a little difficult to understand all of the questions without sorting them into a list (I'm an organized kind of guy) so I'll do that and try to answer them the best I can for ya.

How can you get Nintendo points the "cheap-ass-way"?
I'm unsure on this. There are a few ways, if Circuit City or other B&M stores have coupons or deals. I believe Circuit City did have them at $14.95 when they are originally $20.

And what's the deal with the Nintendo membership that the Wii says I can hook up to my Wii Shop account?
You can register a free account at www.nintendo.com When you do, you can put in all official Nintendo Products codes (serial numbers) to give you specially items such as desktop paper, icons, etc from those various products. They also had a deal where you register some products, you can get a 3 issue subscription to Nintendo Power for free. Dunno if it is still going on. But if you register your Wii with them, you get an additional 90 day warranty.

And what's the value of getting a Nintendo DS Lite? I have the original gameboy, and i mostly used it to play tetris and pokemon. I bought a gameboy color from a friend but never really used it. Is it really worth getting one now since I have a Wii and they can both connect and talk?
The Wii does not interact with the DS just yet, but it will. We just don't know when. Really, this question isn't up to us, it is up to you. I love my DS and take it with me everywhere I go. They do have some new Pokemon games, so that is a plus, as well as Tetris. If you have the extra money, I'd say get one.

Should i get a VC controller or buy a reused Gamecube controller? I hear gamecube controllers can play Gamecube games and everything else. and is the wireless gameboy controller compatible with the Wii?
I assume you mean the wireless Gamecube Controller, the Wavebird? Apparently it does work. And according to this chart:

It should work for all. Genesis and TuboGrafix are undetermined.

I'm into shooting games, should I buy red steel or COD3? but COD3 can't multiplay! and i hear Red Steal sucks. should i wait then?
Hopefully somebody else can answer this, I'm not a fan of shooters except for when it comes to Resident Evil. And technically, it's not really considered a shooter.

What game should i buy if i want lots of party/mini games? like wii sports! it was such a hit with family =)
For right now, you will want to try Rayman - definately. Look for Mario Party 8 sometime early next year, as well as Wario Smooth Moves.

Thanks for any help
You're welcome.....whew

Another Wii mini game bonanza is Super Monkey Ball. Definitely try Wario Ware when it comes out... those games are awesome.

I enjoyed Call of Duty 3. I've heard some people whine about it, though. The only problem I really saw with it was the graphics... but then I don't care much about graphics, so that didn't bother me.

To reiterate what's been said, the DS is up to you. If you like portable gaming and you like Nintendo, then it's a no-brainer. To me, the DS is the best gaming system out right now... but that's just how I feel about it. It sounds to me like you're not a big portable gamer... if that's because you don't really want to be, then pass on the DS. But if you'd like to be, and you just don't know where to jump back in, then pick one up.

I got a VC controller myself, but then I didn't have a Wavebird. I like the old school SNES look of the classic controller, personally. I was never a big fan of the (IMO) clunky GC controller.

Super Monkey Ball has 50 mini games. And if the single player is anywhere near the 1st one, it's old-school bliss (Curses Toys R Us for not allowing me to be playing the monkeys yet.)
