So on wherehouse.com I placed an order for Batman Animated Series: S1 used for 19.99, shipping is 2.99 + tax.
I have 22.99 in store credit

19.99 + 2.99 + $.25 tax = 23.23
Meaning the overage gets paid, using a Visa Card.
But there is a coupon VISACOOL that knock $3.00 off the price, and can only be applied when paying with Visa.
23.23 - 3.00 = $20.23, and then I don't need to pay with the Visa Card
Which means I do not qualify for the coupon...

and so on

I think the world is about to end!
a = b
a² = ab
a² - b² = ab-b²
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)
(a+b) = b
a+a = a
2a = a
2 = 1
Unless a=0, in which case the equation is always 0 = 0
I knew going to MIT would be good for something :roll:

Damn, that makes my head hurt. I've been staring at that for ten minutes trying to find the error.

he divided by (a-b) which is equal to zero
can't divide by zero

true, this was a false statement
How many Cag's does it take to Unscrew a light bulb?
Trick question, They'd debate about the morality of doing it and then call the person who does unscrew the lightbulb a hoarder.

All in good humor folks, I'm just kidding.

Close but that doesnt not answer the core question, how many...

( Sonderiaom hilarious btw)

If a=b then (a-b)=0 therefore the step between
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)
(a+b) = b
involves dividing by 0, which is impossible. Learn your math.

Oh, I know my math. I just figured that since everybody was posting epigrams instead of paradoxes, I'd drop this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Division_by_zero#Fallacies_based_on_division_by_zero instead of one of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Paradoxes.

And I think the OP should just add something else to his cart.

Ahhhh, math. Haven't used a bit of it since I graduated from high school. The complicated nit picky algebraic equations that is. Save your brain cells for the pimpin game boys, it'll get you farther......
How much wood, would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
A woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could, if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
A woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could, if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
I thought a woodchuck would chuck all the wood if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Of course, he's can't chuck wood. Sally selling seashells by the seashore gets the wood. Not to mention Peter Piper's pack of pickled peppers.

.... Gas blast, bus gust?
why is .9999999999 =1 ?
1/3 = 0.3333333333 etc
2/3 = 0.6666666666 etc

1/3 + 2/3 = 0.999999999 etc, but 1/3 + 2/3 = 3/3 = 1.

Fun, huh?

There's a flaw in your math. .333333 etc. does not equal 1/3 - it is an approximation of 1/3 with every 3 you add getting you closer to 1/3 but never quite there.
0.333 etc. repeats to infinity. You don't "add" threes to it and it isn't an approximation of 1/3, it is a decimalization of 1/3.

Don't believe me?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof_that_0.999..._equals_1
It's just smoke and mirrors and I'll never believe it! NEVER!!!!!

1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 3/3 = 1
.333 -> infinity + .333 -> infinity +.333 -> infinity = .999 -> infinity
1/3 can be represented by .333 -> infinity but it will never quite equal it
.999 -> infinity gets closer and closer to 1 but never quite gets there

Since you're having so much trouble with the concept of infinity, let's eliminate it from the equation.

let x = 0.9999...
10x = 9.9999...
10x - x = 9.9999... - 0.9999...
9x = 9
x = 1

You can't do addition, subtraction, etc. using infinity. It's just a concept. Infinity minus infinity does not equal zero just like infinity plus infinity does not equal 2(infinity).
