I had some time to kill today so while driving I saw a Blockbuster I had never been into before. I thought I would stop in and look for some game deals. Usually Blockbuster's have shelves of used games. This store had less than 12 games total. Some of the games were NFL 2K2, NBA 2K2 and NFL Blitz 2002. They were all $24.99 each! They also had some other games like Panzer Dragoon Orta for $19.99 which also was overpriced but not as bad as the sports games.
Looking at the game rental section (again, just to kill time), it seemed like this store loves old sports games. If you want a 2002 or 2003 or sports games, that you had many choices and the worst part was that a lot of the games were rented out! It would probably be cheaper to buy Madden 2003 for $2 - $3 at EB rather than spend $6 or $7 to rent it.
I then went to look at the used videos and I couldn't believe some of the titles I saw. The VHS section was weird. Some titles for sale were - using Word Perfect (some old version), a video about Calcium, a video about Eating Disorders and other health type videos.
As if things weren't weird enough, I saw they had booklets about the ESRB out so I took one just to see what they had to say (I know the ratings but I wanted to see how it was written). The first strange part was the Kids To Adult Rating was in the booklet which hasn't been used since early 1998 so I was thinking about how useless the booklet was. I then looked at a list of systems in the booklet and the line that I noticed was "Nintendo Ultra 64, coming in 1996." That's right, this Blockbuster had ESRB booklets out that are almost 10 years old!
After that, I half expected to find SNES and Genesis systems for rent right next to the VCR players they had for rental.
