Just wondering if someone knows of a high quality AA/AAA battery charger and if so a good deal.

I've had 4 budget Energizer chargers that appear to not have worked even once (thankfully they were free after rebate) and I've been saved by this cheapass charger I got from Radio Shack a while on Black Friday but has now broke. So I do have quite a few batteries at least and I mostly need a charger that is reliable and that charges to full (not timer).

We are going to Hawaii or Germany again for 2 weeks and I take pictures and videos of everything so I need something good! I also am going to use it for my 360's controller batteries since the play and charge kit sucks apparently. Thanks for your help!

Awesome, thanks! My cheapness wants to wait til $25 but if it goes up I'll be in real trouble and I need it by mid April.

Reading the reviews of those hardcore battery users (who knew those existed!) I'm starting to wonder if I was doing something wrong before.

If anyone else has more suggestions or good deals on AA themselves I would appreciate it. I used to always find coupons for battiers before, I guess I need to hunt more now.

The best rechargeable AA batteries are Eneloops, but they're quite expensive. I believe they typically go for around $12 for a pack of four. The Rayovac 4.0's are also good, but it's been a while since I've seen any deals on those.

[quote name='schopaia']I have tried energizer and eneloop, and it seems the eneloops perform the best. I'm using it with 2 wii remotes and I bought this charger (since I only ever need to charge 2 at a time)

but if you're using it for many more devices, I would go with this one...

How long does it take to charge? I have the Turtle Beach X41 headset and it BURNS through batteries.

Duracell rechargables are good too, and some of them are rebranded eneloops. If they have a white ring around the top of the battery, they're just eneloops in a Duracell wrapper. The non-eneloop Duracells have a dark ring around the top, but they are decent batteries as well, just not as good.

Costco from time to time sells a Sanyo eneloop startkit for $30 and sometimes $20 on sale

Comes with a 4 AA/AAA charger
8 AA low self-discharge eneloops (consiered one of the top tier LSD batteries)
2 or 4 (I forget) AAA batteries
4 of each C and D-szed adapters, which turn those AA's into C or D-sized batteries

I got an eneloop kit from costco a while ago for $12 due to a pricing error. They are very good batteries and will hold their charge for a long time in storage. I just charge a bunch of them and keep them in a drawer and use them as needed. I use them for my wiimotes.

I have to put in another nod for the Enerloops, as I've replaced all my non-rechargeable batteries with them.

The 2nd link posted by schopaia is for a kit that Costco has sold off and on for multiple years, and it's a great value for a starter package. I've picked up a number of those kits and have more than enough batteries for all my devices.

I use Enereloops in my 360 controllers, my Wiimotes, my TV remotes and everything that takes batteries.

No, they're not cheap, though they're well worth it in longevity of charge.

The Lacrosse BC-700 charger is a good charger for extending the life of batteries, as it'll deep discharge and then recharge the batteries as needed some times. There's a larger version of it, the BC-9009 that some prefer due to some additional options it provides over its smaller brother.

Eneloops and Lacrosse get a big thumbs up! FYI, if you see a Duracell with white tops supposedly they are rebranded eneloops. You probably won't run into these though. But if you do and they are a good price, you are in luck.

I have the bc-9009, great for refreshing. The only flaw, and I don't know if the 700 has this, is if the rechargeable has only a sliver of juice left, the charger thinks it is dead and will not charge it.
You would need to put it in a standard or quick charger to give it a jump. This has happened to all my energizers- but they are junk for anything other than clocks or low power devices.
I've switched over to eneloops and they are great for controllers and remotes (also none of them have died in 3+ years). Hybrios are also good.
And I have heard good things about maha chargers.

I feel like once every other month we go through this and the same batteries get mentioned. Maybe this or something better written should be stickied like the Monoprice post. Just a thought.

Typically, you want to charge your batteries as slowly as possible to prolong the life of the battery. Those quick chargers put too much strain on the batteries and they lose their ability to retain a charge quicker than with slow charging.

I haven't timed it, but the 2 battery charger is quite fast. Somewhere around 1 hour. Maybe 1.5 hour.

Cool, thanks guys.

I think I may go with the Eneloop bundle just so I know I have some real dependable batteries with me. Now I just have to decide if I want to get that Costco bundle or get 2 4AA charger sets. I'm paranoid about having just 1 charger but on the other hand it will be expensive and I won't get the AAAs :( Probably worth the sacrifice though.

From what I can tell, the Eneloop charger will charger other NiMHs right? I didn't see anyone mention that in the reviews.

Any NIMH charger will charge all NIMH batteries that can fit into the charger.
