2/9/09:
Not sure if these deals are still active but the game ships this week so I thought a bump might remind everyone that LR2 launches at $20, which is a very CAG-friendly price. :)

Amazon and Gamestop are offering access to a downloadable demo of LocoRoco2 when you pre-order the game from them.

 Here's the link to the Amazon page.
Pre-order "Loco Roco 2" for PSP now through Jan. 12, 2008 and get a unique code to download and play the early access demo. Codes to access the demo will be sent before the early access period begins. Offer good while supplies last. Must be sold and shipped by Amazon.com to be eligible.
 Here's the link to the Gamestop page.
Reserve LocoRoco 2 and receive access to the LocoRoco 2 Demo. You must have access to Playstation Network in order to redeem promotion code. Available for online and in-store customers, while supplies last.

Online Customers / In-Store Pickup : Codes granting access to the LocoRoco 2 Demo will be sent via email starting on January 13th.

Store Customers: A rave card granting access to the LocoRoco 2 Demo will be available at time of game reservation.
Both sites have the game listed for $19.99 with a February 10th release date.

Now I just have to remember where the hell my PSP is...

I really like the first game and will probably pick this up at some point.

If anyone wants to play the Demo right now just create a Japanese PSN account and you can download it from there. They also have a Patapon 2 demo available.

does anyone know about the Playstation Store release of this title? Sony said that all of their PSP games were going to be available for download going forward- but I wonder where it will be available first.

Not sure when they said that, but the downloads that are on PSN now have shown up months after the UMD release.

I'm definitely in on this. I picked up LocoRoco when a local Circuit City went out of business. It's the only PSP game I have played for the last 3 weeks.
Is this something like Patapon?
In terms of game play, no. The only connection LocoRoco and Patapon share is they are both musical, albeit in different ways--the characters in LocoRoco sing quite a bit, while the Patapon characters use rhythm to move.

Doesn't offering a demo as an incentive for a preorder completely negate the purpose of a demo? I tend to use demos to decide whether or not I want to buy a game. If I have to agree to buy the game in order to play the demo - the demo serves no function and ERROR: CANNOT COMPUTE.
Free 2-Day shipping on LocoRoco 2 at gamestop.com. Use the coupon "LOCO2".
Thanks for alerting me to the free shipping deal; went ahead and ordered.

That's how I've always felt. Demo as pre-order bonus doesn't make sense to me.

Hasn't this game been out in Europe for a couple months now? What the fuck is taking so long bringing it over here, as it's already in English. Are we getting anything added? (impatiently awaits release)

They clearly didn't want to compete with all of those other awesome PSP games that came out during the Holidays.

I can't wait for this, and don't need to play the demo...but I'm just baffled by this whole "preorder to play the demo!" thing. It's like if I know I'm going to like it, I'm not going to play the demo, and if I don't know, then I'm not going to preorder it...

I should probably preorder this and that Prinny game (and maybe the Hammer game?) when I go in next...

Thanks for the heads up, OP. I was going to buy this anyway, but completely forgot about it (and its release date). Thanks for the reminder. Pre-ordered.

I pre-ordered online a day or two ago and just got my access code for the demo via email. Says demo will be available tomorrow.
Got my access code as well. Ordered 2 days ago.

Got my access code today, but I could care less for a demo so the code is up for grabs.
Did you guys order from Amazon or GS?

From Gamestop, sorry. Email came from [email protected] yesterday. I tried the code a few minutes ago (since it is the 15th now after all) and it didn't work. I suspect it won't work until after the PS Store update later today.

Took me a bit to figure out that you have to press Triangle on "Account Management" and delete your current account from your PSP to be able to play Japanese demos.

Very positive review from Joystiq:

Loco Roco 2 has a lot to live up to. The original remains as one of the PSP's strongest selling points, particularly for. Announced last June, we didn't see anything from the game until Tokyo Game Show in October. As a result there's been no slow drip-feeding of information, which means the only expectations we had were based on the original. Thankfully, this sequel makes its predecessor look like a prototype.

If you're expecting gameplay that differs dramatically from the original you're probably in for a shock. Instead Loco Roco 2 expands on the gameplay of the first in almost every direction, with a large variety of minigames and new gameplay features. The graphics have largely remained unchanged, but the world is now much larger, with plenty more stuff to do, see and collect in each level.

Environments are now more varied with many more types of enemies and friends to interact with. Controls haven't changed either, the L and R shoulder buttons still tilt the world while pressing them simultaneously will make your Loco Roco jump. Simplicity at its best.

Read the rest here. Is it Tuesday yet? :)

I preordered my copy yesterday. Totally forgot about the demo, but...well a demo for something you've already bought is dumb, and I'll probably like it. Worst I can say about the original is it didn't expand much past it's original concept. But it was an experimental platformer I actually LIKE (unlike say Kirby's rolly magic pen whatever it's called game)

I look forward to the day when Sony understands the point of a demo. You don't get the privilege of watching a movie trailer after buying a ticket for that movie.

Destructoid gives it an 8.5:

Visually, the game never disappoints. The 2D art is sharp and adorable. It’s as if the artists stared at a basketful of puppies and were able to successfully encapsulate what makes that scene so delectable. The pastels used to color the game are even better than the aforementioned basket o’ puppies. The game is vivid, bright and bursting with happy images and whimsical backdrops. A brilliant complement to the visual flair is the game’s music and integration as a gameplay mechanic. The tunes are soft and cute like everything else in LocoRoco 2, but more importantly, they now have a purpose outside of subtle entertainment. As you progress, you’ll meet and unlock other multi-colored LocoRoco to play with. Depending on whom you choose, the default music applies minor tweaks that associate with the LocoRoco. To aid the MuiMui, you can also stop and sign to trigger events in the level. Instead of staring blankly at the screen, the game challenges you to keep rhythm with the song.

They primarily take issue with the game's short playtime, which they state is 4-6 hours without collecting everything.

I don't need no damn demo to know that LocoRoco 2 is going to be great. I still think that the first one is the best game on the PSP, so I have very high hopes for this one.
