I was in gamestop today as they were closing and went to check out.
I asked to be rung up so i would get the biggest discount on the b2get1free and the cashier did this

syphon filter the omega strain 17.99
dark cloud 2 17.99
.hack part 3(with dvd) 17.99(free)

crimson sea 2 $22.75
klonoa 2 $22.75
lupin the 3rd 17.99 (free)

mobile light force 4.49
time splitters 4.49(free)

nba live 02 2.69

nba shootout 2.69(free)

i had 3 more 5 dollar games that i passed on bc they either were badly scratched or didnt have the manual.

The manager was standing right there and says he has to ring me up again

so he rings me up

siphon filter omega 17.99
dark cloud 2 17.99
nba live 02 2.79(free)

klonoa 22.49
crimson seas 2 22.49
mobile light force 4.49(free)

so i pay, realizing it seemed a bit high, and get the receipt and ask to be rung up to get the biggest discount from the buy 2 get one free, he says he already closed the register, and that i come back in the morning for a cash refund, but the buy 2 get one free deal is over.

should i just go back in the morning and try to get the district manager to over ride this and i can take advantage of the B2G1 free? Should i just take the refund? I would like to hear from a gamestop employee and hear if there is any way to get the deal at this point.

And yeah, i obviously got seriously owned here, i guess the manager was irritated that i didnt want the games that were badly scratched so he decided to do this. I will most likely just go back in the morning for a refund. right now I am just not happy. :(

Any input here would be welcome, but if you just want to make fun of me for this, I would understand.

Man, you got totally ripped off. Get a refund, get the manager's name and store info, and get some real customer service.

Since you were getting all of those on the same trip, he has actually has logic on his side. You should have gotten one set, then left, come back, gotten the next, etc. Getting them all in one swoop, policy says you get the cheapest ones free. And that's what he did.

Or he coulda of asked to ring up each purchase seperately by the groups the cashier was going to ring him up with.

the manager mentioned to the customre before me that today he was leaving the store and was starting on another job, I guess he just wanted to do this on his way out. I have only been in this particular store a couple of times, I guess that is why he did this to prove some sort of point?

that is ridiculous! you could of walked in 4 seperate times and saved a ton if they were going to ring them up that way. i have bought allot of games before and they always ring them up like your first example. i would complain first of all to the district manager. if that does not work return them, don't let them srew you like that. if you have to return try going back when that guy is there it will really piss him off to return all those games and when he has to explain it to his boss he will look like an ass!

Not surprising at all. This is almost always how buy X get Y free works. You will always get the cheapest items in the total free, whether you buy 2 to get 1 free or 6 to get 3 free. The cheapest items are ALWYAS the free ones.

You can complain, but I don't think that it will do any good. If you really wanted to get them the way that you described, you should have purchased them all on separate receipts.

It sucks that you got hosed this way, but that's always how these deals have worked. Since the games are all used, you can return them all and threaten to never shop there again. That might get you somewhere, but since you dealt with the store manager, its not likely.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

oh yeah, that is exactly what he said I would have had to do, was ask to get rung on on different receipts. So i asked him to, but he said i would have to come back in the morning and the deal was over. At this point i guess i should just opt for the refund?

I mean, what I am asking is if it is even worth arguing at this point? If someone who worked at gamestop tells me there is a way i can actually get this deal to work at this point, then i may try that route.

If you are not satisfied, get the refund.

Was the guy an ass? Sure. Was he doing something improper? No. Except for the come back in the morning part. If you left the store and came back a few minutes later, that's a whole new visit. However, if this was this guy's last day, there's not a whole lot that could be done about it. GS might give you an apology, but they obviously can't discipline the guy when he no longer works for them.

that sucks. I have taken advantage of that deal many times. I have always made sure that they scanned the games the way I asked for it --- the best deal possible --- the way you had intended. Only once was I given difficulty by the clerk. I then simply told him that I was going to make two transactions -- was buying 6 games. Came out fine. Return the games and get a refund. They won't redo the deal for you. Just wait for the next time this deal appears.

so you already did the first transaction and then he did it all over again, so you'd get the least discount possible? that is seriously f'd. i work at gamestop and today i always gave the people the most discount possible. my manager said that the sale is still going on tomorrow. a question though, did you do it all on seperate transactions? because that would make it easier, and he wouldnt be able to f you over like that.

what im saying is go back tomorrow and get your money back.

Take that stuff back. This guy did that to mess with you. I have never had anybody do that even if it is the logical thing for them to do.

Yeah it's worth fighting for just out of principle. If some asshat tried that with me I would be none too pleased and make it a personal vendetta to fuck him over, but I'm just a tad on the vindictive side :)

Gamestop actually tried to do something like this to me last time they had this sale. Some idiot clerk tried to tell me he wouldn't ring things up the way I wanted, so I just said ok fine I just want this set, all of which were 29.99 and then after he rung me up and I paid I was going to buy the second set. Luckily a manager overheard and rang me up the way I wanted himself.

Well, i didnt have time to come back a few minutes later, he closed the register as soon as he rang me up and said that i could get a refund in the morning but he would not let me get the buy2getone free deal in the morning.

So I should just opt for the refund? I didnt initially ask to be rung up on 4 different receipts, i just asked to be rung up to get the most savings on the buy2get1 free deal, and she did this, but then the manager says i need to be rung up again. And he rang me up so i would get the least savings. At this point it sounds like i ought to just take the refund.

try taking it to another store where the guy isnt an idiot and get your refund and try buying the stuff again. like i said, i believe the sale is still going on tomorrow. but if it isnt just get your money back.

well i am not really vindictive, i only care about the money. I guess i will go back in the morning for the refund. Unfortunately today was the last day for the sale at this particular store.
I would just take the refund, and don't shop at that store anymore.
well again, this manager is leaving, so I dont think boycotting that particular store makes much sense. Next time i will just be sure to ask to be rung up on different receipts instead of just asking for the most savings.

You should have watched him when he rung it up.
The guys at my gamestop usually say the price when they scan it so they inform you of what you are going to pay for.

You should get the cash refund paying all that isnt worth it.
asking to be rung on different receipts would be a good idea. could you look on the receipt and tell me the store number?
Right, but when i asked to be rung up on different receipts I got shut down and he said the register was closed.

His name is Moe, this is the store on 10814 Jefferson Blvd suite H
Culver city, CA 90230

It has his customer ID number next to his name, but not the store number(i dont think)

dracula just return them all and forget about it. Fack Moe! What a CH_Moe (russian) It's not the last time they have this deal. I'm sure February 1 GS starts it again.

I know every employee in every GS around me and I NEVER had any problems.

or you should've said:

"Thank you very much, Moe I don't want those" :

red faction 4.49
mobile light force 4.49
time splitters 4.49(free)

nba live 02 2.69
nhl 02 2.69
nba shootout 2.69(free)

and trhow them into his ugly face. :hot:

This way you could've gotten more expensive titles.

You ended up paying $125.92 ringing it up their way, when you could have paid $95.84 ringing it up your way. You would be saving $30 bucks.

I would ask them to let you do it your way tomorrow. If they don't let you, take your games and play them for the 7 days you are allowed to, and then take them back and get your refund.

Were you checking out at closing when the employees were trying to leave or something? Man, you got F'd. And Moe's customer service skills are seriously lacking. Who the hell tells a customer that he can't ring you up as different transactions on different receipts? What does that save him, like one or two minutes of his time? You may want to call and complain to the Gamestop corporate HQ about the lousy experience you had at one of their stores, and give them all the info on Moe. You may get a giftcard out of the deal.

i am not really looking for a giftcard. Here is what i plan on doing: i will go back in the morning, but there is a chinese restaurant next door to gamestop, i will eat some kung pow(sp) chicken and then get my refund and launch some truly deadly farts after i get my refund. as long as i get my money i really dont give a shit. i would have liked to have gotten crimson seas 2 (pretty fun) and .hack3 as part of a deal, but ebgames is having buy2get1 next week so i will just spend my money there.
but ebgames is having buy2get1 next week so i will just spend my money there.
Exactly. Just return the games and go to Eb in a few days, and pick up the same games, for the same B2G1 free sale.

I've been to that store and all the employees are jack-offs.

Generally the cheapest item is the free one, and sometimes it's built into the computer. YMMV may vary as to whether you get someone who would 'bend the rules'. When they did their 'extra trade cred for 3/4/5' items, I had the guy ring up my 12 tradeins as 3 sets of 4 instead of 2 5's or 4 3's, to get the most credit. But it took him some manual intervention.
Technically the manager was within his rights and the policy. Best thing to do, I guess, would be to ask to ring them up separately [say you're buying games for friends and want the receipts separate so they can pay you back the right amount], or have someone come in with you and buy another set. Asking to make sure this 1 goes with these 2, and ringing them all up at once, might make the guy think you were gaming the system.
On principle, I'd probably return everything [assuming you can] then buy them separately, either from that store or another. But I wouldn't do it because the guy was a jerk, rather because I wanted to save 30 bucks.

Well.. I had an opposite experience today. Yup, TODAY.

I saw a big B2G1F sign today. I walked in. Dracula guess what I found?! Star Ocean guide for $1.99 :D.
I also got on B2G1F

Ogre Battle (PS1) (complete)
Lagend of Mana (PS1)(complete)
Ikaruga GC (complete) Free.

After checking the game discs the girl started ringing them. She goes: Sergei, We gonna ring guide in a separate transaction, cause it ain't gonna work"
I just smiled, remembering what happened to you yesterday.
I'm so sorry you had to deal with idiots!

oh i went back and got a full refund. the same two clerks were there, the manager couldnt even look me in the eye when i was talking to him, he seemed sort of embarrassed. I didnt do any silent but deadly farts bc there were kids around, i just got my refund and left.

i got the cash back which is really all i cared about-i was a little concerned they would try to give me store credit, i never returned anything before, so i am glad i got cash instead of store credit.

Yeah i did call their customer service earlier this morning and filed a complaint with the district manager, but I dont expect anything out of this, at least i got the refund. i will probably spend it all at ebgames this week on the buy2get1 free sale there, i will probably pick up taiko drum master and some other games(maybe mercs or crisis zone with guncon)

thanks for the input, this really wasnt a big deal, but i was pretty annoyed at the waste of time.

Finally i talked to the district manager of gamestop today. We had played phone tag the past couple of weeks, he seemed to take the complaint seriously.

When he asked if this would make me not want to shop at gamestop anymore, i was honest with him, i know i could have said "i will never shop at your store again!" to try to get a giftcard, but i would much rather have him take my complaint seriously I told him that my gripe was with someone who was quitting so it didnt really make sense to say i will never shop at gamestop again.

I also told him that I shop at all the stores to try to get the best deals, and when they run good promotions, that would make me want to shop at his store. He did say he would "treat this with the severity it deserves"(not sure what that means). of course the guy who overcharged me, he already quit, so i said if he could just mention the the other workers at that store to not deliberately overcharge their customers, I would appreciate it.

I know you people think i should have tried to say "i will never shop in your store again!' to try to get a free giftcard, but I got my refund already, which was really all I cared about, and the dm seemed to take me seriously, and he even called me back on a sunday, which i really was not expecting. I feel better having left a formal complaint about this.
