Hey guys just wanted to get some recommendations or opinions on best options for upgrading my ps4 HDD, most things I see ppl recommend the 2tb Seagate Monemus HDD but its only 5400rpm which seems really slow for a 2tb drive esspecially, thanks for the opinions guys

This is a good one, not that cheap though (compared to others) -

Rated good on Amazon by customers. 5400 RPM's is ok from what I gather, there have been tests done on solid state drives vs hybrids but all in all there is not much of a boost for performance between each.

There are cheaper ones of course. Any Seagate, Toshiba or Western Digital always work well.

Whatever you decide make sure it's no bigger then a 2.5" drive as anything bigger will not fit the PS3 HDD bay.

As far as maybe finding a better price try Newegg. Sign up for there email list and they send out daily specials with promo codes too.

Whatever you decide check the buyer comment/ratings and you should be ok.

Good luck my friend. :)

Edit:
Didn't notice I linked you to the same one you mentioned. From what I have read it is a top notch one. I wouldn't worry with the 5400 speed. It should be fine.

I have that 2TB SpinPoint in my PS4 and it's not slow at all.

It was just on sale at NewEgg.com for $99.99 this weekend and routinely goes on sale for that price.

This is the one I recently bought, and it should be here Saturday. Sorry about the formatting, I'm on mobile. It's been confirmed via YouTube and Amazon discussion that you can open the enclosure and use it your PS4. Great deal.

Only issue with doing that is that the bare drive won't have a warranty on it and if it fails, you're SOL.

That's OK with me. I haven't had a hard drive go bad on me in quite some time so fingers crossed. I opened up the last HDD that I used for my PS3 and that was maybe four years ago. Still is alive and running.

This is the exact one I got to upgrade my anniversary PS4. It was easy to do and it works great in my PS4. Removing the plastic casing takes only about 10 minutes, and you can put your old hd in the casing to use as an external drive. There are videos on YouTube that give step by step directions.

First of all, I'm so jealous of your Anniversary PS4 lol.

Secondly Yea that drive is really the best to get. For $89, you get a 2TB in your PS4 and also get a 500GB external. That way your not completely wasting the stock drive from the PS4. Personally I use the external drive for my XB1. The only problem with upgrading the drive in the PS4, you have to download and install everything all over again. It's best to upgrade sooner rather then later. I'm really glad I went with the 2TB though, I only have 1TB free space now so I would have maxed out a 1TB drive.

Also since I upgraded it seems it loads everything a little bit faster.

Another think to consider. NyKo recently announced the PS4 DataBank, it lets you install 3.5 droves into your PS4. I think down the line, I might end up picking that up. You could use a 4TB drive then.

For 2.5" HDD's, 2TB 7200 RPM drives are nonexistent yet as I recall. The fastest that I've seen them go was 5400-5900 RPM (I can vouch for 5400; 5900 is unsure as of yet). 2TB is the biggest portable storage you can get. Until 3TB and 4TB portables come out, followed by a betterment of the technology to improve spindle speed/RPM...if you want to do 2TB's, then endure the slow speed.

There's a 1TB 7200rpm Hitachi 2.5" HDD, though nothing bigger than 1TB. 1.5TB and 2TB, those are only 5400RPM.

3TB HDD in a 9.5mm form factor is going to be a tough one to do, since I think they can only get 2 platters in there for 9.5mm.

Congrats on your anniversary PS4! 2TB is the way to go. The hardest part about doing the update was trying to get the update file to initialize. I put my drive in the left usb slot, and it finally went through. I downloaded the update around 5/6 times. Once it's formatted, you'll have 1.77TB left to use. I'm already down to 1.2TB after installing all of my retail games. Next week I'm getting my 50/5 internet connection so I'll be doing my updates along with DLC packs.
