All 7 seasons of Friends on DVD $137 at bb.com

Nah. 10 seasons. But there are multipacks of each season at BB.com.

But they are selling an 8-pack of the 8 seasons for a bit more. I recommend getting that if you're spending 137 for 7 seasons.

I need to get season 8 sometime this week...

Agh! Seven seasons of friends for slightly more then you can buy a single season of Star Trek or the X-Files. It makes me want to rip my hair out! And Im sure that the actors on Friends are making more money off the DVD sales then the Star Trek actors are. I hate greedy companies and fans who are willing to buy products at prices way higher then they should be.

Star Trek and X-Files are so high because of production values and other sources that need certain amounts of funds to pay for. Star Trek sets are an ultimate rip-off, but X-Files sets aren't so bad, especially since you can find them PO and complete for about 50-60. Which isn't a bad deal for like, 20+ hours of material.

Remember, Friends episodes are only 22 minutes on average with a 22-24 episode order. Unlike The X-Files and Star Trek which go in at one hour each.

The Friends sets don't have the amount of bonuses as those sets do, either. Just three commentary tracks, a gag reel, a pointless-but-fun trivia game, and SOMETIMES interviews.

I was hoping they'd have the Conan O'Brien Friends outtakes special on this DVD, but, unfortunately they do not.

I hope for triple the bonuses on the season 10 set, with the Leno appearances, the Oprah appearances, the Conan O'Brien appearances, a commentary track with the cast, and some awesome easter eggs!

... But that's just wishful thinking. I'll still definately pick up season 8 ASAP regardless. One of the best seasons, and unfortunately, the last great season. Season 9 wasn't that great, but I thought season 10 was excellent, but not up to standard with the first 8 seasons of quality. Season 3 is so excellent, my favorite season by far. Barely ahead of seasons 4-6 in terms of quality.

Yo nephets. If I want to pick up just one season as a gift for my gf, which one would you recommend?

Also does anyone know if the coupons from that Madden '05 coupon book have expired? (The one with 20% off a DVD) I have one, but not on me so I can't check.

UPDATE:

Checked the details and they are also doing save $15 on 2 seasons. Is that good in store as well? That would be a slightly better deal than 20% off anyway. (Though I could try to get them to combine in store.) I guess I could just do in store pickup if it's not good in store.

So which 2 would you recommend, nephets? :D

Hmmm, I'm now thinking about just ordering all 8 seasons and giving her a few for her birthday right now and the rest for Xmas. Wish I had 24 BB bucks :D

It's hard to say which specific two, because they run in sequence, and while you'll like the episodes if you aren't seeing them in order, the best way to watch is in order.

But, if you don't order the whole package of 8 seasons... I recommend seasons 4 and 5. Since season 4 has an ultimate cliffhanger and was the part during the show that got me hooked on the show, and season 5 was probably the season that had me laughing the most (along with season 3).

Seasons 3-6 are really great, lots of classic moments, season 7 and 8 are great as well, but not as memorable. Season 9 is decent, and season 10 is enjoyable.

However, don't just get season 8, it won't make much sense without season 7 knowledge. Sure you can read up summaries, but it's better to watch it first-hand.

I recommend getting all seasons eventually, if not, start off in sequence if you plan to get all seasons. The first two seasons aren't the best, but they get the job done pretty well.

I took the plunge and ordered all 8 seasons. Did in store pick up and I already have them in hand.

I've actually seen most of the episodes from season 6 on. Can't remember, I may have started watching sooner. Pretty good deal, works out to about $17 per season and I think my gf will love it as a gift.

Thanks for the input nephets, I appreciate it :D

Thats a great idea. Where my mom works, they sell sets of things, and most parents to that for their kids, order the set and dish out the stuff year round.

Companies make money. That's there raison d'etre. You might as well hate hummingbirds for their incessant hovering.

You could hate yourself instead for making so little money a few hundred dollars seems like a bid deal.

BTW: isn't it funny how an x-files season is about twice as long as a season of friends (same number of episodes, each episode of x-files runs twice as long as a friends episode).

And you know, I have a hunch that x-files' special effects budget was just a tad higher than friends'.

If I assume that I could find all of the Star Trek sets for $100, it would cost me only $2800 for all the seasons currently out, plus the sets coming out next year. Thats way more then I can spend right now. Ill be going to college next fall, so I need to save all of the money I can.

Of course the effects budget was higher for the X-Files then Friends, but cant believe that Fox needs to sell X-Files for over $100 a season, unless they really screwed up some contracts and are paying people that work on the show a ton of royalities for the DVDs.

That's funny that you are talking about the special effects budget, since the actors' salaries for Friends dwarfs whatever the effects in X-Files may have cost.

Well, the length/production values argument is kinda moot when you consider that Buffy, Angel, and Stargate seasons all sell for about $50 each. All of those are hour-long shows, and I'd put their production values up against any of the Star Treks or X-Files.

The reason those others (and the HBO series like Sopranos for that matter) are so expensive is simple: greed.

Of course, that's also the reason that I've only bought the few ST:TNG seasons I have used, while I've bought every season out of Stargate brand-new. ;)

But then you'd have 28 seasons of an hour-long show, as opposed to Friends' 8 (or 10).

You can always, you know, buy just the ones you want, or even none at all. If you're going to college, you also need to know that chicks may scan your DVD shelf before deciding whether or not to have sex with you. 28 seasons of star trek is not a huge turn-on for most girls.

What a thing to compare to. Not sure if he's looking for sex in college anyway, and I don't think many should either, get a girlfriend, not random sex outings, but that's just my take on it. But that's all up to you anyway, and if it were to be taken as a joke, then sorry for my incredible stupidity.

Either way. back to the original subject, it's still a great deal anyway, glad to see the seasons have a pretty cheap MSRP. I think 30 is the MSRP now, but I'm not sure.

Well my gf didn't really like this as a gift as it turned out :D

She watches the syncicated eps all the time, but apparently she doesn't think she'd really want to watch them on DVD. Doh!

So all 8 will be going back to Best Buy (probably tonight).
