All Devil Customers, all the the time? Wal-mart eyeing Best Buy chain
Some people don't have AIM or an AOL screenname, so viewing that article is a bit bothersome.
I saw Wal-Mart so it can't be a good thing.
What's the deal? I need to know what's up.
Just something about how Walmart is the second largest consumer electronics retailer in the country and they are trying to jump Best Buy in that category by introducing a less expensive line of electronics like Plasma TVs, LCD monitors, etc. It's going to be called ILO. An analyst said that Walmart is "going to fry BestBuy's brains out."

I don't quite understand this way of thinking. Surely some of the people going to Best Buy have their eyes not only on the price of the item they are purchasing, but also on the quality of said item.

Why would that analyst assume that everyone would stop buying Pioneer/Sony plasmas and run to WalMart to buy cheap ILO screens?

WalMart ‡ Quality for me, and I would imagine it's the same for most other consumers. Or do they just count on Cletus spending Brandine's Dairy Queen paycheque on a whim? I know some consumers are just morons who only look at the bottom line, but if you're spending $3K on a television, pick up a magazine for god's sake.

BB is targeting Barry and Jane and WalMart is targeting Cletus and Brandine.

You underestimate the stupidity of the average consumer, or those who shop at Wal-Mart. For us, when we make a purchase like this, we try to get the best quality for the money is something that is going to last. To Joe Blow, its....well, all Plasma screens are the same and this one is $500 cheaper. Of course, we know very well that the quality may be DRASTICALLY less and even wind up being more expensive in the long run when it breaks just out of warranty.

Wal-Mart will likely make some serious cash on this. Who knows what deals with the devil they are signing with cheap Chinese manufacturer's to get this accomplished. You know these things aren't going to be manufactured here in the United States if they are going to compete on price.

Wal-Mart is horrible for America.

Yeah, it sucks that everyone isn't as rich and educated as you, huh? If it weren't for them, then people like you wouldn't be rich either.

If you buy from Wal-Mart you support terrorists.

Wal-Mart is destroying America by wrecking the economy and creating a monopoly in a new area, jobs.

Unemployment is extremely high, and if you don't count shit jobs and second jobs (ppl working more than one job) then unemployment is at an all time high.

I don't think it's going to make a difference. Yes, there are a lot of people that will buy the no name crap but most people still want quality especially in electronics.

Just so we're clear, are you sure Chinese manufacturers are the devil? Because I thought walmart was the devil, which would make "deals with the devil" somewhat akin to masturbation.

This is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever read. You sir are an idiot.

They're not going to be selling only their own brand. From the article:

"Wal-Mart is the second-largest consumer electronics retailer in the U.S. behind Best Buy, but it won't be for long. This spring, it rolled out a private-label electronics line, ILO, which thus far includes low-priced 42 inch plasma TVs, LCD monitors and DVD recorders. That move put electronics stores large and small on notice, as has Wal-Mart's efforts to boost its brand partnerships, introducing Sony and expanding its relationships with Panasonic and RCA. Says retail analyst Howard Davidowitz, "They are going to fry Best Buy's brains out." "

I didnt read your whole post but Walmart carries Sony panasonic etc they just do it at a lower profit point and force suppliers to run very tight businesses.

If you're stupid

...then you're poor and judgemental.

You know, some people make more than minimum wage.

Funny thing is most people who can afford and buy $3K+ televisions watch almost NO television. They buy it for it's "DESIGN"...

I disagree. I'd marry my $5,000 TV if I wasn't married already... and it was legal... and the tv could, well, you know... I mean it's great for watching porn but it's just not the same... um, yeah....

That's why I bought a $700 or so TV. It's big enough to see, and that pretty well covers it.
