Am I the only one who has a problem at EVERY EB?

I was at the mall yesterday, saw an EB, and said why not. I called up manimal and asked what should I be on the lookout for. Spikeout: Battlestreet! I asked the clerk and he said they had one left! SCORE!

I was then looking around, and found DOA Ultimate new for $20! I brought that up to the counter. The clerk scans it. Wham is comes up $40. Im like no way, that price tag says $20. The clerk says he cant sell it to me for that. He can sell it for thirty. Im like no, you cant sell me something for $10 more that the price tag. After a couple of minutes of him hitting keys on the computer, he makes it $20.

To top if off, the jack ass just puts my games on the counter with the receipt with no bag!

Damn I really hate EB.

I have trouble with ALL video games I buy in person, unless it's from this one manager, and some other lady. It seems that women over the age of 27 are the only good ones.

I do most of my shopping from EB online, I like it, cheap shipping, fine prices, and nice setup. Walmart is also good just because they have like EVERY game listed and advilable.

I always have a problem at EB b&m as well. I've never met a nice clerk at EB. They're always really big assholes you think they know everything, but don't know shit. I swear I hate going in, but I just can't help it. Most of the time, their aren't any really good deals anyway...at least not any that can't be found on their website.

Same here. The guys at mine are pricks like none I've ever encountered. They'll sit there and argue with customers, trying to get them to buy something else. They seem to have an EXTREME Xbox bias; I've seen a person go in, say "I want a Gamecube," and the clerk sits there and tries to convince them otherwise.

I've wanted to jump into their conversations just to tell them off at times, but they're hopeless. Thank god they'll probably be gone once EB folds into Gamestop (they have both in my mall, so some of those employees are gonna have to go...probably the EB ones! Yay!).

It could be worse, you could only have a Gamestop. Just wait, in six months, it will be worse as we'll only have Gamestops.

We have both and EB Games is far superior here in town. The deals are better and the people are a lot nicer in my opinion. I'm really going to hate the merger of the two stores.

the funny thing is, for as much as I dislike shopping at EB B&M... the online site with its random deals kicks ass... if you had been able to get in on the 20 online offer for DOA:U, it would have saved you all the heartache in dealing with the folks who work the stores.... half of which do not know what they are talking about... or lie as if you dont know what you are talking about

Atleast Im not the only one. When this guy told me he could only sell the game to me for $30 I wanted to punch him.

I hate the EBs in my area because they're too sale oriented; you ask them whether a game is good or not and if the game sucks, they'll try to talk their way around it instead of just telling you it sucks.

I work for EB and they still do the same thing to their fellow coworker to get their numbers up, lol. Also, my manager likes to tell me that I'm never going to make it to med school whenever I try to weed my way out of buying a game from the store with the excuse that I need to pay for college tuition.

2 of my 3 EB's have been good to me. Just the other day, I returned a used Xbox headset that came broken from the website. They didn't have any in stock, so they opened up a live kit and gave me a brand new one.

Theres one EB near me where the people aren't nice, but thats because the manager is a prick. When the clerks aren't good to you, it usually comes from the top down. Shit rolls downhill.

Your state doesn't have a price accuracy policy? And DOA:U should be $20 everywhere. I remember that's the actual price for that game the last time I was working.

That's pretty much been my experience as well. I wouldn't say every EB clerk acts this way (or even the majority), but it definitely isn't hard to find a guy like this at most EBs.

In contrast at the gamecrazys I've been to over the past week or so (for the big sale) I haven't met a clerk that acted like an ass yet. Although I did run into 3 different clerks at Gamecrazies that handed me a DS to test GB and GBC games...

thats cause gamecrazy gets rid of all the lazy fuckers who think they know everything and don't have to help customers cause they're not "leet" enough. We don't put up with that shit. We're also much more customer service oriented than EB or GameStop, all our managers make that a big emphasis. Not being there to sell something, being there to help people find something they'll like and get the most value out of.

i just hate when they try to get me to buy a bunch of crap along with it.. especially when i traded in some old games (perfect condition) and i went to buy some other games with that credit the same employee was like do you want the scratch insurance or whatever.. i'm like "no i'm an adult i can take care of my video games" its like sometimes they should just try to not oversale you things and they might sale it once in a while.

I've never had a problem with a game store employee. I've gotten in arguments with them, but that doesn't mean they were pricks...I find customers usually read way too much into an employees actions.

I have problems a lot of the time at EB which is why unless they have some clearance $2.99 or $4.99 games, I won't shop there. I had the same problem where a game was tagged a different price and rang up for more at 2 different stores. One was tagged $2.99 and rang up $19.99, they wouldn't sell it to me for $2.99, another time a game was tagged $4.99 and rang up $29.99 at the other store and they also refused to sell it to me.

I have had problems at other EB's as well. Another store wouldn't let me use a $5 off coupon on Hunter The Reckoning on Gamecube because it was already $9.99 and they insisted that the $9.99 price in the system was the after coupon price.

And yet at another EB, when that trade in 2 games for $10 bonus credit deal was going on, the manager refused to let me have the bonus credit unless I put a pre-order deposit on a game.

I have even more but I would be here typing all day if I listed everything.

I can't tell how many times I've seen EB employees try to sell crappy games. The one that people usually get suckered into, Turok: Evolution. I'd hate to see the look on the kid's face when he finds out he spent his allowance on crap.

But out of the 3 in the area, 2 of them are nice. One is cause a friend from my high school years works there and will get me bonuses and good copies of preowned games. The other for some reason sells stuff I never knew EB carried anymore(Game Gear games, 32X & Sega CD stuff) and the employees will test the preowned games before you buy them.

I've had some theories about the poor behavior of game-store employees:

they have poor social skills (partly because they are geeks to begin with)
they can't afford the games which creates resentment
the management structure breeds bad service

I will only deal with EB because I (like others here) have learned to exploit their trade-in deals (turning $5 (or less) games into $13.33 in credit) and their website is pretty good with free shipping and nice clearance deals.

GS I will only buy used Player's guides from.

The store manager at my EB is great. He lets me get the .01 guides and even tells me to come in when it's slow so I can go through the box of pulled guides to see if there's anything I want. I've bought an Edge card and the guarantee on every game I buy there. It's the least I can do for such a cool employee. I hadn't bought a thing at EB in over 5 years until I met this guy. As long as he's there he's got my business.

In all my dealings I've only had one problem with them, and that was quickly fixed with a call to talk to the manager. I bought my sister a Dreamcast and a couple games as a present, and the Dreamcast broke sometime in between me buying it (Black Friday) and Christmas.

The rep working told me in store that I could bring it back, but of course when I took it back after it wasn't working, day after Christmas, they didn't take it. The manager was cool about it when we called back later that day, even if he may have been pissed off at me.

Doing things like he did have made me keep shopping there, and the employees are always helpful and don't try and pressure a sell when all I want to do is browse.

eb sucks , i have argued over prices more times then i care to remeber, my therory is gamers are very fickle, we like to be treated good and we take care of the ones who take care of us

I hate EB... no wonder Gamestop is buying them.

The employees at my EB are such idiots... one girl has been working there over a year, and STILL dosen't know how to check the computer for products and even ring people up.

Everytime I go in or call about a product, she literally goes to the wall and looks for it, instead of first seeing if they even have it in stock. I asked for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for PC, and after five minutes, told me "I can't see it on the wall..." to which I replied "How about looking on the computer?"

After about another 5 minutes, she comes back and says "oh yea... we have alot in the back".

On the other hand, today I call Gamestop to ask about Tactics Ogre and Vandal Hearts 2, both for psx. The guy on the phone says "Yea, someone traded those in a few days ago... here they are, found both already, they'll be on hold for you until the end of the day". Their used game racks were ALL alphabetical order, as well, as opposed to EB, who just throws their games on the racks. At the local EB, there's empty, cracked jewel cases with NO barcodes whatsoever on them just hanging out with the ps one games.

That's real classy.

I've got lots of other horror stories, like the caveman, a 7 foot tall employee with a bowl haircut, always hunched over, who would freak out in the loudest voice about any game brought to the register. "I CANT BELIEVE YOURE BUYING MADDEN! THE PASSING AND RUNNING IS SOOO AWESOME, ITS ALL LIKE WHOOO FWOOOSH" and all you want to do is just run out since everyone is staring at you.

I've never had a problem with either EB or GS stores. Some of the employees at EB are a bit aloof, but then again, I'm usually there long enough to hear some of the idiotic bullshit they have to deal with. I've had a couple of issues with EB's online store, but those were resolved to my satisfication in phone conversations lasting under two minutes.

Yawn...here we go again. Do we REALLY need one of these dumb threads every week?

If you have a complaint, why not tell somebody who A) cares, and B) can do something about it? Posting on this message board is, well...a waste of time.

Why not call customer service? Is it because these complaints aren't really complaints at all, but just you guys being too anal? I mean, you guys complain about EB employees for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING: selling "crap games", offering guides or warranty's, asking to presell a game, hell even one guy here got mad when the guy said HELLO to him! I don't get it sometimes. Just don't shop there if you're gonna be so anal.

Big Nick, yes that employee was 100% wrong to not give you DOA for the price of $19.99. It was their fault for not changing the price when it went up last week. The clerk didn't wanna override the price because that's $20 out of his P&L report. I don't blame you for getting upset. I remember a few of your posts in the past dealing with your problems with EB. How many times did you actually take action? Contact the DM, contact home office, write a letter, etc.

I'm sure i'll be flamed. After all, I was already called a "geek with poor social skills who can't afford games, who offers bad customer service" by schultzed

A geek who can't afford games...hmm, I just LOVE the irony of that statement! What message board are you posting on again? ;)

The one that gets me 3 or 4 quality games for the price of one?

I don't think being a CAG is about being poor, it's about being a smart shopper. I know that wasn't directed to me in any way, but it did feel a bit offensive in general.

Yes, I know what you're talking about. All they ever recommend is X-Box. It's not that I have a problem with X-Box, but it is all they ever recommend.

At least at my gamestop, the people there are really nice. At EB, one of them depends on who's on shift and the other EB's employees are always kinda "pricks".

I've also seen them argue with customers, coffeedge, but not too much.

I have never had a happy EB experience.

However, I have always had wonderful Gamestop experiences. For example, Final Fantasy X launch day, I drove 75 miles to the big city. Stopped at every store including EB. No one had it in yet. So, on my way to another EB on the other side of town (that said they had it) I stop by Gamestop. I asked, he pulled from underneath the counter FFX! I just about wet myself. Happiest moment of my life. I bought the guide too!
I bought the guide too!
Yea, I noticed Gamestop never pushes guides on me either.

EB is always about the guide, 24/7, from when I used to shop there. They'd ask me at least 3 times in one transcation if I was positive I didn't want the guide. One time I got fed up with it, and said "You know what, I told you no twice before, now I really don't want the game either" and just left.

Got to vote with your dollars to make a difference, no matter how small.

I had no intentions of insulting anybody (after all, i'd only be insulting myself in the process) I just thought it was funny to find that comment on a message board which contained the words "Cheap Ass"

Maybe I'll add a ;) to my comment :)

I def. agree with that last statement there. Just wondering, what game were you buying? The reason they push guides is simply because the guides are almost all profit to the company, and they add UPT. Might as well sell them all before they penny out right?

Def Jam Vendetta... so it wasn't like it was an rpg or anything.

It was a fighter, and one you really don't even need a guide for.

And no harm done with the comment, I probably read it the wrong way, lol.

I don't remember the last time I had a bad EB experience. And they've had reason to be dicks to me, after trading in a combined 20 copies of Black & Bruised, PS2 demos, and Outlaw Golf 9 more XMas holes. I normally shop at the Rockville, MD White Flint location or off of Cherry Hill Road.
The only store that pisses me off >20% of the time is Best Buy, and that's like 90% of the time.
Your state doesn't have a price accuracy policy? And DOA:U should be $20 everywhere. I remember that's the actual price for that game the last time I was working.
That would only have helped if the actual price was $20.

I don't know about you guys, but I have trouble at EVERY store.

EB Games, Gamestop, & Game Rush - ALL of them, 80% of the time, if I don't watch them and do the math while they're ringing items up. They almost always make a mistake in the store's favor. Not that they do it on purpose (what does a minimum wage worker get out of scoring the store an extra $30?). I believe that whoever creates the software intentionally sets it up with an increased probability that sales will ring up in the store's favor (Ex: Buy 2, Get 1 Free sales. If you buy 3 $5 games and 3 $45 games, the system always tries to give you two free $5 games. That's just childish greed)

Game Crazy - They're the kings, though. Well named, because they really drove me crazy. "Buy this card, we have deals every month!" Next month comes around...where's the deal? "Uh, well, on average we have more than one a month, but this month..." Or how about "We're matching the any 2 for $10 deal that EB is doing! ANY Non-Sports games qualify!" I bring in 6 games - "Well, you can only do 2 games per day, so come back tomorrow." Tomorrow comes - "We can't take those two games. The trade-in value has to exceed $10 for us to give you an additional $10. Forget what we told you yesterday." Or how about "Buy any 2, Get 1 Free starting in a week!" I scope out the games and come in a week later..."Buy any 2 'tagged' games, get 1 free." Naturally they're all sports games or Metal Gear Solid or Metroid Prime. If only I could meld all Game Crazies into one person and meet them in a dark alley...

OP: Don't go to EB then, go somewhere else.

Seriously, from your post this is what I believe you think:

"I need a game, but I hate EB... so lets go to EB!"

The logic is just been destroyed.

I used to hate EBgames with a passion. Lately though I have had nothing but awesome people working at the ones near me. They let me trade in jampacks for the 3 extra $10 which has never happened. I can even talk to some of these people where usually it is a one-sided conversation on how I need to pre-order everything. I'm sure in another 6 months new asshole employees will take over.

Gamestop....I don't agree with everything Gamestop as prices tend to be high but from when they were Funcoland up until now I have never had a single problem. Just today I went in to trade in some games and a lady traded in 2 DS's. On the counter were 4 little DS game cases and I asked the clerk if they sold those there...he said do you want these? Then he also gave me a Metroid Prime Hunters Demo.

I have learned talking to these people and being nice goes a long way at these places. I'm sure a lot of them deal with insane customers. When I was in Gamestop today another lady came in with GT4 and she used Disc DR. or whatever on the disc and it looked like a cat used it as a scratching post. Then she complains about how she only bought it 3 weeks ago for her son's 13th birthday so on and so forth. She is wondering why the game won't play. UGH!

My local EBs are fine. Most of the personnel are amicable. It helps that they know me well enough not to make silly assertions. Not just to me but to anyone while I'm in the store.

On used games I've found they often ring for less than they're marked. But that may just be luck.

I prefer the EB to where I work in the financial district to where I live which has a Gamestop. Unfortunately there will be no more videogame stores on the UWS for a very very long time.

I had such high hopes for the Time Warner Center - but no luck.
